An investigation has been initiated by a police force in response to a disturbing incident captured on camera, which shows a Los Angeles deputy forcefully slamming a Black woman to the ground.

In Lancaster, California, on June 24th, a Black man and woman were alleged to have engaged in theft at a WinCo grocery store. Following the report, LA County Sheriff's Department officers arrived at the scene, where one officer proceeded to handcuff the man. Simultaneously, the woman accompanying him recorded the interaction between the man and the deputy.

Based on ABC 7 report, the officer eventually approached the woman, who can be heard on camera instructing the officer not to touch her. Despite her plea, the unidentified law enforcement official forcefully seized her and violently threw her to the ground. The man, who was being apprehended by the deputy, exclaimed, "Don't slam her down like that," and also mentioned that she is battling cancer.

While attempting to apprehend the Black woman, the officer encountered resistance, prompting a bystander to record the incident and urge the officer to cease the assault. Today July 5th, Cancel the Contract, an activist group, has organized a rally outside the store where the altercation took place. According to reports, the organization is demanding the termination of the deputies involved in the video footage.

Following the widely shared incident, the grocery store has refrained from issuing a comment thus far. In contrast, the LA County Sheriff's Department has provided a statement in response to the incident. “The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has opened an investigation into this incident,” the statement indicated.. “While the department does not make statements related to ongoing investigations, Sheriff Luna has made it clear that he expects department personnel to treat all members of the public with dignity and respect and that personnel who do not uphold our training standards will be held accountable. In the interest of transparency with our community, the sheriff’s department is releasing body-worn camera video from the incident.”

According to Raquel Derfler from the group, the accusation of stealing a cake is unthinkable. "That was the allegation - that they had shoplifted a cake. So let me be clear, nothing has been proven, but it was alleged... and that's how they came in hot like that, as though they were brandishing firearms or attacking or assaulting members of the community when it was simply a cake."
