On October 14th, over 200 women of all shapes and sizes gathered at the Equinox Sports Club in Los Angeles for a remarkable event that touched the hearts and souls of everyone in attendance. The event, hosted by celebrity fitness authority DJ Shai and Girls Gone Active, had a profound mission – to raise awareness for Breast Cancer and Healthy Lung Month. As someone deeply passionate about preventive healthcare and living a healthy life, I felt an immediate connection to this cause.

Girls Gone Active, on a relentless mission to inspire, empower, and celebrate women through strength, resilience, and well-being, organized this event not just as a celebration of strength but as a platform for raising awareness about these critical health issues.

Upon entering the venue, we received wristbands for our chosen workout classes, and there was something for every woman, regardless of fitness level. From cycling, power yoga, and barre, to the "Best Butt Ever" class, the options were there. The atmosphere was set perfectly with DJ Kennedy's hip-hop sounds and DJ Shai's emotional opening remarks, during which she shed tears of joy. Her heartfelt emotions reflected the journey she undertook to curate this event, and it resonated with all of us.

As October holds special significance for women’s health, being both Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Healthy Lung Month, it’s a time when we emphasize the importance of early detection, self-care, and overall well-being.

Mychele Sims, the creator of "The Werk," got the crowd going with an upbeat dance-inspired warm-up, ensuring that we were motivated and stretched out for the group fitness classes to come. Each fitness class was instructed by top-rated Equinox instructors, and they were nothing short of challenging. In particular, Sydney Belina, who led the Barre class, was a glowing and pregnant instructor who still actively demonstrated movements and made adjustments throughout the entire class. Her dedication and resilience were truly inspiring.

After our intense workouts, we were handed cool towels infused with relaxing essential oils for a soothing cooldown. We also had the chance to enjoy many activations and collect swag bags filled with goodies from sponsors like Lululemon, Camino Gummies, Black Girl Sunscreen, Hart House, blk. Water, and more. The peaceful sound bath led by Adrienne Bawa provided the perfect post-workout relaxation, and personal stretching sessions, Drip Hydration’s B-12 shots, and charming charcuterie cups made by A Little Extra Charcuterie were among the delightful offerings.

To keep our energy up, Tocaya and Lemonade provided the necessary fuel. Then came the specialty cocktails curated by Shinju Whiskey and Casamigos Tequila, which transformed the event from a zen mode to a lively dance floor, thanks to DJ Kennedy, who wrapped up the evening.

We learned, we ate, we sweat, and most importantly, we connected. This event was a beautiful way to spread health awareness and inspire women to live a healthy lifestyle, and DJ Shai's tears of joy were a poignant reminder of the passion and dedication that went into curating this remarkable experience.

As we reflect on this event, let it be a reminder that together, we can make a significant impact in the fight against breast cancer and lung health issues, and inspire each other to prioritize our well-being.
