Blackstreet Receives Street Honor in New Jersey

Blackstreet received a special honor in their hometown of Paterson, New Jersey, as they were recognized for their remarkable contributions to the music industry with the unveiling of Blackstreet Blvd on Friday July 28th at Presidential Blvd between West Broadway and Temple Street.
The iconic R&B group was formed in 1991 by record producers Chauncey "Black" Hannibal and Teddy "Street" Riley. Their breakthrough hit, "No Diggity" featuring Dr. Dre and Queen Pen, topped the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1996, selling 1.6 million copies that year. This track was the lead single from their second studio album, ‘Another Level.’ In 1998, Blackstreet won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. Under Interscope Records, they released four albums until 2003. The current lineup consists of Hannibal, Levi Little, Mark Middleton, and Eric Williams.
On Saturday July 29th, the Grammy Award-winning group posted photos on social media, proudly posing with the street sign named after them. It's official!!! Blackstreet is literally on the map📍Words can not express the amount of joy we have at this moment,” the group captioned their social media post. “Words cannot express the amount of joy we have at this moment. Having a street dedicated to us in our honor from the city we grew up in is beyond anything we would have imagined when we were kids.”
“I believe in recognizing our local talent and giving them their flowers while they can smell them,” Councilwoman-at-Large Dr. Lilisa Mimms told local news reporters at the event. “Honoring our artists’ achievements and contributions is essential for preserving our city’s cultural heritage and inspiring future generations.”
During the event, attendees expressed immense love and gratitude, showcasing the profound impact the group had on their lives, as they enthusiastically celebrated the musicians' contributions and sought to preserve their legacy for generations to come.

Snoop Dogg, Sade Adu, and Teddy Riley are among the songwriters who will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame at the organization’s 52nd annual Induction and Awards Gala. The gala is slated for Thursday, June 15, 2023 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.
With Snoop being inducted, this will be the fifth consecutive induction ceremony honoring a songwriter associated with hip hop. The Long Beach icon, who has been a staple for the culture for nearly his whole life, will join past inductees to receive the accolade such as JAY-Z, Jermaine Dupri, Missy Elliott, Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo of The Neptunes. The West Coast pioneer has given the world hits like “Gin and Juice” and “Drop It Like It’s Hot”.
Sade Adu, the lead singer from the group, Sade, is receiving the accolade days after her birthday. She has always been out of the spotlight and didn’t do too much to stay relevant. But when news broke that Sade was working on new music, fans of all ages were eager to hear the new music. Notables songs from Sade are “No Ordinary Love” and “Smooth Operator”.

Teddy Riley the creator of the New Jack Swing genre, received flowers with the earlier stages of Verzuz on IG when people discovered he was apart of so many timeless classics. Riley was apart of two R and B groups, BLACKstreet and Guy, and also he teamed up with Snoop Dogg and DJ Quik named QDT. Notable classic songs Riley has contributed his pen to are :”No Diggity” by BLACKstreet and “Remember the Time” by Michael Jackson.

Swizz Beatz and Timbaland have teamed up to create an instagram series to take advantage of everyone sitting at home by pitting top notch artists and producers against each other in song for song match-ups. Some of the match-ups include RZA vs. DJ Premier, Ne-Yo vs. Johntá Austin, Mannie Fresh vs. Scott Storch, French Montana vs. Tory Lanez, The-Dream vs. Sean Garrett…but this was by far the best match-up.
Teddy Riley and Babyface teamed up to break the instragram live record by attracting over 500,000 viewers. The playlist was crazy between the 2 featuring artists such as SWV, Ready or Not, Tevin Campbell, Doug e Fresh, Janet Jackson, Toni Braxton, Blackstreet and many more!
Babyface recently battled the covid-19 and recovered which pushed the date back but it definitely did not disappoint. Babyface has a decorated resume writing and producing 26 #1 hits and earning 11 Grammys while Teddy Riley has 2 Grammys as well.
