First Franchise of Ice Cube's BIG3 Basketball League Sold for $10 Million

Ice Cube's BIG3 Basketball League makes headlines as it sells its inaugural franchise for a massive $10 million, signaling a significant milestone in the league's growth and expansion. We discuss it here!

By: Joshua Martin

Ice Cube’s BIG3 league sells its first franchise for a massive $10 million dollars as the league continues its expansion plans.

The deal was announced on Friday, May 10th by a group led by investment firm DCB Sports out of Los Angeles. The new team will be based in L.A. and is no doubt a monumental milestone for the basketball league.

The eight-figure deal comes as the league transitions from a traveling model to one where each team in the league is based in its home city. A move the Hip-Hop legend believes will strengthen the league’s respective fanbases.

We need to plant our roots in cities so we can be more than a rolling all-star game coming through. It’s really about growing the sport and the league. We can plant our roots in these cities. It is great to come through with, like, a rolling All-Star event. But if you want to really unlock the fan-base potential, connecting to cities does that.
— Ice Cube

The league is not only adding a new franchise in Los Angeles but the BIG3 is looking to add four new ownership groups by the start of the 2024 BIG3 season in June. With the hopes of having all 12 of their existing teams sold prior to the 2025 BIG3 season.

Gary LaDrido of DCB Sports Managing Partner, pointed to 3-on-3 basketball being introduced as an Olympic sport back in 2021 at the 2020 Tokyo Games as a contributing factor in his group’s acquisition of the L.A. franchise.

We view it as an interesting property. Grabbing the LA market is super cool — and for Ice Cube to trust us to usher that in.
— Gary LaDrido, DCB Sports Managing Partner

The 2024 BIG3 season will kick off on June 15 in Oakland, Calif.

Women’s basketball legend Candace Parker officially hangs up her sneaks after a storied college, pro and olympic career. The 3 time WNBA champion shared the news with her followers, Sunday (April 28th), with a lengthy social media post. The 38 year old expressed her love for the game and the factors that lead to her retirement.

I promised I’d never cheat the game & that I’d leave it in a better place than I came into it. The competitor in me always wants 1 more, but it’s time.

My HEART & body knew, but I needed to give my mind time to accept it. I always wanted to walk off the court with no parade or tour, just privately with the ones I love. What now was to be my last game, I walked off the court with my daughter. I ended the journey just as I started it, with her.
— Candace Parker

The two time League MVP also mentioned that a string of foot injuries also contributed to her calling it quits earlier than expected.

This offseason hasn’t been fun on a foot that isn’t cooperating. It’s no fun playing in pain (10 surgeries in my career) it’s no fun knowing what you could do, if only…it’s no fun hearing ‘she isn’t the same’ when I know why, it’s no fun accepting the fact you need surgery AGAIN.
— Candace Parker

The former No. 1 overall player coming out of highschool enrolled at the University of Tennessee under the legendary women’s basketball coach Pat Summit. While there Parker won two National Championships simultaneously being recognized as the Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player both times. She would later be drafted first overall by the Los Angeles Sparks in the 2008 WNBA draft.

In 2016, Parker led the Sparks to an WNBA title and was named the WNBA Finals Most Valuable Player. In 2021, Parker signed with her hometown team, the Chicago Sky, and led the franchise to its first championship and the second of her career.

Parker signed with the Las Vegas Aces in 2023, winning her third title in the process. An TNT analyst, the newly retired Parker will continue her role with the company.

Reggie Bush Set to Reclaim Heisman Trophy

Reggie Bush is reclaiming his 2005 Heisman Memorial Trophy, which he had to forfeit in 2010. We discuss it here!

As a part of a decision made by the Heisman Trust Wednesday (April 24th), the Heisman Trophy is returning to Reggie Bush and its replica to the University of Southern Cal. Bush will also be allowed to attend all future Heisman Trophy ceremonies starting this fall.

The Heisman Trust’s decision comes after Bush forfeited his Heisman trophy back in 2010 in the wake of NCAA sanctions for USC. These violations included Bush receiving improper benefits during his Trojans career, spanning from 2003 to 2005.

Recognizing that the compensation of student athletes is an accepted practice and appears here to stay, these fundamental changes in college athletics led the Trust to decide that now is the right time to return the Trophy to Bush, who unquestionably was the most outstanding college football player of 2005.
— The Heisman Trophy Trust

The NCAA vacated 14 victories in which Reggie Bush played including the Trojans impressive victory over Oklahoma after the 2004 season. USC’s sanctions also included the vacating of the 2004 national title, the first time a major college football champion had been stripped of its championship.

Personally, I’m thrilled to reunite with my fellow Heisman winners and be a part of the storied legacy of the Heisman Trophy, and I’m honored to return to the Heisman family. I also look forward to working together with the Heisman Trust to advance the values and mission of the organization.
— Reggie Bush, ESPN

Bush’s impressive play on the field made him one of the most transcendent college athletes of all time. He averaged 8.5 yards per touch from scrimmage during his USC career, including rushing for 1,740 yards and 8.7 yards per carry on only 200 carries during his Heisman campaign. Bush was so dominant that season that his 784 first-place votes are the fifth most in Heisman Trophy history. Bush went on to become the No. 2 overall pick in the 2006 draft by the New Orleans Saints.

Exactly 100 days before the Olympic Opening Ceremony, USA Basketball officially announced their Men’s National Team for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The most successful nation in Olympic basketball history is seeking its fifth consecutive and 17th total gold medal. This year’s roster features NBA & Olympic champions, multi-time All-Stars, and MVPS, headlined by future Hall of Famers LeBron James, Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant. Invoking thoughts of the hallowed ‘Dream Team.’

Fresh off of a NBA Play-In Tournament victory against the Pelicans, the team will be anchored by Lakers forward and four time NBA MVP Lebron James. James makes his return to Olympic competition eight years after capturing the gold at Rio in 2016. The four time NBA champion also won gold with the squad at London in 2012.

Durant returns after setting the record for most points scored in men’s Olympic history at Tokyo 2020 in 2021, surpassing the previous mark held by Carmelo Anthony. Now at age 35, the Suns forward could pass up Anthony again. Breaking their tie for the most gold medals(4) won by a male basketball player at the Olympic Games.

The undisputed greatest shooter of all time will make his Olympic debut when he steps on the court at Paris 2024. Curry, a four time champion and two time MVP, previously won gold while representing the USA in international competition at the FIBA World Cup and was expected to play at the Rio games but withdrew due to ankle injuries.

The team will be coached by Golden State Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr. Los Angeles Clippers Head Coach Tyron Lue, Miami Heat Head Coach Erik Spoelstra and Gonzaga coach Mark Few will serve as his assistants.

The USA team will hold a training camp and exhibition games in Las Vegas in early July, before traveling to Paris. The Opening Ceremony for the 2024 Paris Olympics will take place on July 26th with men’s basketball play beginning the following day.

The official roster is listed below.

South Carolina Beats Iowa in NCAA Championship Led by Dawn Staley

Dawn Staley and the South Carolina Gamecocks have emerged victorious against Iowa in the NCAA Women's Championship. We discuss it here!

Dawn Staley and the South Carolina Lady Gamecocks made history Sunday afternoon, inside of a packed Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, OH. Becoming only the fifth team in NCAA history to cap off an undefeated season with a national championship victory. The Caitlin Clark led Iowa Hawkeyes were no match against the Lady Gamecocks tenacious defense, who additionally became only the tenth team in women’s basketball history to complete an entire season undefeated. Finishing at an impressive 38-0.

Coming off the success of Caitlin Clark’s record breaking season, the Lady Hawkeyes started the game off hot. Jumping out to a 20-9 advantage in the first quarter, finishing the quarter with a 27-20 lead. However, after South Carolina made the necessary adjustments, specifically Coach Staley’s placement of guard Raven Johnson on Iowa’s Clark, the SEC team wouldn’t finish a quarter trailing. Johnson seemingly took the matchup personally as the two have a checkered on court history.

Don’t let her score. I was ready for the moment and I take defense very hard, like I take it to heart. I studied her moves, and I was ready. I had confidence this year. I was telling myself last year’s not going to happen again.
— Raven Johnson

Clark finished the game with 30 points but it wasn’t efficient. When Raven guarded the nation’s top player head on, she shot 3 of 11, 27.3% shooting and only scored 7 points. With Caitlin effectively stymied, the game became manageable for the 2024 AP coach of the year and her driven South Carolina squad.

It doesn’t always end like you want it to end. I’m just super proud of where I work. It’s unbelievable.
— Dawn Staley

After the massive win, Staley thanked Clark and her contributions to the game after her legendary season.

Staley and the Lady Gamecocks have amassed an astonishing 74-1 record over the past two seasons. They also became the first team in the past 25 seasons to go undefeated without any returning starters from the previous season.

NBA legend Allen Iverson is set to be honored with a special tribute in Newport News, Virginia, through the renaming of 16th Street to 'Allen Iverson Way.' We discuss it here!

Recognized as one of the greatest basketball players, Allen Iverson receives a special tribute from Newport News, Virginia, as they rename 16th Street to 'Allen Iverson Way.' The NBA Hall of Famer will attend the renaming ceremony at Anderson Park on Tuesday, March 5.

AI has been a cultural icon, always true to himself with his braids, tattoos, distinctive clothing style, and outspoken media persona. He refused to conform to societal expectations, forging his own path without caring about criticism – a true pioneer.

Having played 14 seasons in the NBA, Allen Iverson is best remembered for his initial tenure with the Philadelphia 76ers. His noteworthy achievements include winning the MVP award in 2001, the season in which he guided the Sixers to the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference and the NBA Finals. Despite a loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in five games, his performance during that playoff run is widely regarded as one of the most impressive in NBA history.

Following his time with the Sixers, Iverson went on to play for the Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, and Memphis Grizzlies, followed by a return to Philadelphia for a season. Afterward, he spent one year playing overseas before officially retiring in 2013.

Iverson concluded his career with 11 All-Star Game appearances, seven All-NBA honors, a 1997 Rookie of the Year trophy, four seasons leading the league in scoring, three seasons topping the league in steals, and recognition on the NBA 75th-anniversary team. Check out some of The Answer’s highlights with the Philadelphia 76ers below.

2024 NBA All-Star Weekend Recap

The 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis has wrapped up with a multitude of record-breaking events. From the All-Star Game to State Farm All-Star Saturday Night, these were the standout moments from an eventful weekend in Indianapolis. We discuss it here!

The NBA once again brought out the game’s brightest stars in its annual celebration of basketball and its legends. For those anticipating an epic showdown between “Nap-Town” native Mike Epps and Shannon Sharpe however, were highly disappointed. But, if you came to “The Hoosier City” to enjoy some hoops, you were undoubtedly entertained despite the lack of a defensive presence in Sunday night’s main event. Lets recap the biggest moments from this year’s NBA all star weekend.

Friday Night - Celebrity Game and Rising Stars

The NBA kicked off the weekend's festivities with the Celebrity Game which featured some of today’s biggest stars in all forms of entertainment. That list included popular streamer Kai Cenet, Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud, musician SiR and others. Micah Parsons was the games biggest standout, pouring in 37 points and grabbing 16 rebounds leading team Shannon Sharpe over team Stephen A. Smith. A two sport athlete in highschool, Micah dominated the event becoming the second consecutive NFL player to win the contests MVP and the fourth overall.

The Rising Stars challenge was a bit different this year. A total of four teams were created from the available pool of players and were coached by former NBA and WNBA standouts. Pacers forward Benedict Mathurin won the tournament's MVP award giving Indiana fans something to cheer about while also giving us quite a bit of trash talk throughout the evening. Most notably his exchange with Pistons guard Jaden Ivey.

Side note - White the NBA stars were drafted by their respective coaches, Team Detlef was comprised of all G-League players. They were massive underdogs in the first round against team Pau and Spurs phenom Victor Wembanyama but pulled off the upset with a game-winner by potential 2024 lottery pick Matas Buzelis. The G Leaguers took advantage of the moment.

Saturday Night - All Star Saturday Night

Let me start this by saying the league’s new all-LED floor was a huge win. The possibilities are endless, I can't wait to see how far they take it although it does seem to be more of a novelty than an All Star Saturday night staple.

The stage was set for Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton to potentially have a monumental night and he didn't dissapoint. Leading Team Pacers to victory in the Kia Skills Challenge.

Milwaukee Bucks guard Damian Lillard became the seventh player to successfully repeat as champion in the Starry 3-point Contest winning the star studded tournament with his last shot. Lucas Oil Stadium was set ablaze as hit the moneyball two point shot on the final rack to secure the victory.

G-Leaguer Mac McClung vaulted over 7 foot 1 NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal for a perfect score of 50, joining Dame as repeat champion in the AT&T Slam Dunk contest. The 25 year old was able to display his vertical athleticism and supreme body control, leaving many to wonder why he hasn’t been able land a full time role in the league.

Last but not least, the NBA decided to debut a brand new event that stole the show. Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry outdueled WNBA superstar Sabrina Ionescu in a historic 3-point challenge that featured two of the game's greatest sharpshooters.

This couldn’t have gone any better in the sense of us two taking the chance in front of this stage, running around with all the hype, and to deliver like that, she set the bar, it was unbelievable to watch. So, this might be something - I don’t know if anybody can fill these shoes but it might be something that we need to do more often.
— Steph Curry

With the success Steph vs. Sabrina had, it's highly probable the NBA will follow Chef Curry’s advice and look to bring back in 2025.

Sunday Night - All Star game

Dame Lillard's impressive weekend continued into Sunday night’s main event. Despite some of his well publicized struggles with his new team, Dame Dolla was on point for most of the evening draining logo threes with ease, pouring in 39 points with 11 made from deep. Capturing the coveted NBA All-star Game Kobe Bryant MVP award for the time in his career.

The biggest takeaway from the game however was the lack of defensive intensity by the Western Conference. The game basically turned into a glorified 3-point contest but onlookers expected a better showing from a team stacked with future Hall of Famers. Karl Anthony-Towns led the way for the West with an absurd 50 points but outside of the occasional shooting spurts from the games greatest  and the anticipation of a strong Tyrese Haliburton appearance, the game itself left much to be desired.

Interesting All star weekend stats

**This is the third time in league history the same players have won the 3-point contest and Slam Dunk contest in back to back years.

87-88: Larry Bird, Michael Jordan

02-03: Peja Stojakovic, Jason Richardson

23-24: Damian Lillard, Mac McClung

**The 67 combined made 3-pointers set an All-Star game record, besting the previous record of 62 set in 2019. The teams combined to attempt five free throw attempts.

Kansas City Chiefs Secure Another Super Bowl Victory

Kansas City Chiefs secure third Super Bowl in five seasons, led by Patrick Mahomes, cementing his place among NFL greats. We discuss it here!

By: Joshua Martin

We are officially in a new era! A Kansas City Chiefs Dynasty! The Kansas City Chiefs have firmly planted themselves at the top of the NFL mountain with its third Super Bowl in as many as five seasons. Future Hall of Famers, Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Tight End Travis Kelce, and Head Coach Andy Reid secured another championship after what some may call a tumultuous regular season for the squad.

The first half was a defensive struggle, with multiple turnovers and uncharacteristic mishaps by both teams. Certainly mirroring the issues that plagued the Chiefs during the regular season. Trailing 10-3 at the half, the second half was vastly different for Mahomes and company. They held the 49ers to zero points in the third while putting up ten of their own, eventually earning their way into overtime with two crucial Harrison Butker field goals in the fourth.

Neither team fully took control of the opportunity at hand, failing to reach the end zone on their initial drives. The 49ers finally hit a field goal with a little over seven minutes on the clock and as time wound down, Mahomes guided Kansas City into the red zone and threw a three-yard game winning touchdown pass to Mecole Hardman with three seconds remaining in the extra period.

The victory cemented the team as one of the all time greats and they became the first team to be back-to-back champions since the New England Patriots in 2003-2004. Patrick Mahomes was named Super Bowl MVP for the third time in his career, firmly entrenching him as the second greatest quarterback ever behind Tom Brady. Mind you he has all of these accolades while only being a full time start for six seasons. We may be looking at the new G.O.A.T. and a potential three peat. Something that has never been done in NFL history.

Really just the whole game, just our whole entire season, it was the defense keeping us in there, and the offense making plays when it counted. Just know that the Kansas City Chiefs are never underdogs.
— Patrick Mahomes

A bold statement from the leader of a team that were underdogs their entire road to the big game. The Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers were all favorites during this run and given this victory and their dominance since the beginning of the decade, Mahomes may be right.

Top 10 Pro Black QBs of the 21st Century

Celebrate the golden age of African American Quarterbacks in the NFL, reflecting on a 70-year history and exploring the top Black Pro QBs of the 21st Century. We discuss it here!

Doug Williams, Lamar Jackson, C.J. Stroud

Doug Williams, Lamar Jackson, and C.J. Stroud are some of the best quarterbacks to play in the NFL in the 21st Century.

By: Joshua Martin

What a time to be alive!! We are currently in the golden age of African American Quarterbacks. 14 of the league's 32 teams entered the season with a Black QB at the helm, the most in a single week in NFL History. Lamar Jackson is almost assuredly obtaining his second MVP trophy, Houston Texans Quarterback C.J. Stroud is a shoe-in for the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year and Patrick Mahommes has an opportunity to win his 3rd Super Bowl in his 7th season. Putting him on a pace to become the most decorated Quarterback of all time.

While basking in such wonderful times, it’s important to acknowledge a 70-year history of Black quarterbacks in the NFL who never got their shot. It’s important to remember those who played a major role in the long, difficult journey to get to this point.

From Doug Williams, the first Black QB to lead a team to a Super Bowl victory. To Warren Moon, who is currently the only African American QB to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Not to mention James “Shack” Harris, who in 1969 became the first Black QB to start an NFL season-opener. Those are just a few notable names that had their hands in what we are witnessing today.

As a sports fan, nothing gets my blood boiling more than a top ten list. Join in my misery as we list the top Black Pro QBs of the 21st Century. Carefully curated, this list will include number 1 overall draft picks, MVPs and current players who have a trajectory of great long term success. We will summarize the meaning behind each ranking while also highlighting notable achievements of said player.

Patrick Mahommes - Patrick Mahommes is this generation's Tom Brady, greatest of all time. Since becoming the Chiefs starter in 2018, Mahommes has led the Kansas City Chiefs to six consecutive AFC Championship Game appearances and has won two league MVPs. His arm talent is literally out of this world. No one can deliver the ball with such accuracy and velocity on so many different platforms like the six time Pro Bowler. His most notable highlights are the no-look passes that leave defenders shook or the 50 plus yard bombs you see effortlessly flowing out of his hands on the move. In only his second year as the starter, he became only the third QB to win the Superbowl and the second to win Super Bowl MVP. Becoming the youngest in NFL history to do so.

Career Highlights

Notable Achievements:

2× Super Bowl champion (LIV, LVII)

2× Super Bowl MVP (LIV, LVII)

2× NFL Most Valuable Player (2018, 2022)

NFL Offensive Player of the Year (2018)

2× First-team All-Pro (2018, 2022)

Second-team All-Pro (2020)

6× Pro Bowl (2018–2023)

2× NFL passing touchdowns leader (2018, 2022)

NFL passing yards leader (2022)

Lamar Jackson - Lamar Jackson is ridiculous. He simply plays at a different speed than everyone else and is often a  blur on your TV screens on Sundays. His combination of speed, agility, quickness, shiftiness, etc etc. Has never been seen before. Lamar is only the second player to unanimously win the MVP award and is probably receiving his 2nd pretty soon. Jackson followed up his impressive MVP campaign in 2020 by becoming the first quarterback ever to have multiple rushing seasons with 1,000 yards. This ranking may be a little premature because of his recent playoff struggles but I can see Lamar getting a ring, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest of his generation.

Notable Achievements: Heisman Trophy Winner

NFL Most Valuable Player (2019)

2× First-team All-Pro (2019, 2023)

3× Pro Bowl (2019, 2021, 2023)

NFL passing touchdowns leader (2019)

Cam Newton - The former number one overall pick in 2011, Cam Newton led an imposing Panthers squad to a 15-1 record, a top ranked rushing attack and a game away from the organization's first Super Bowl victory in 2015. Polarizing off the field as he was on it, Cam birthed the era of Quarterback we see today. At his peak, no one had a stronger arm and was as dangerous in the open field. His size made him a constant red zone threat and defenders had to make business decisions when going in for a tackle. The end of his career lost a little steam due to injuries but Cam deserves this spot off of talent alone.

Notable Achievements: Heisman Trophy Winner The league's first rookie quarterback to throw for 4,000 yards in a season and the first to throw for 400 yards in his NFL debut, he also set the single-season record for quarterback rushing touchdowns.

One of only four Black Qbs to win the MVP award

NFL Most Valuable Player (2015)

NFL Offensive Player of the Year (2015)

NFL Offensive Player of the Year (2011)

First-team All-Pro (2015)

3× Pro Bowl (2011, 2013, 2015)

Steve McNair - McNair was a legend before entering the league in ‘95 as a 3rd overall pick by the Houston Oilers. The former Alcorn St. standout, took that same skill set that made him a prized prospect straight into the NFL. Becoming the full time starter by ‘97 “Air McNair” would hold on to that position through 2005. Guiding the Oilers/Titans to 4 playoff appearances including one dramatic run to the Superbowl. The first Black QB to win the MVP, was as tough as they come. Often playing with numerous injuries. His rocket arm and solid mobility made him a constant headache for defenders.

Notable Achievements: NFL co-Most Valuable Player (2003)

Second-team All-Pro (2003)

3× Pro Bowl (2000, 2003, 2005)

NFL passer rating leader (2003)

Russell Wilson - Before the memes and rap references, Russell was on a trajectory to becoming one of the all time greats. Belleyhoo’d by a stout Seattle Seahawks defense early on in his career featuring the Legion of Boom, Wilson led the Seahawks to two Super Bowls. Winning one and one Beastmode carry away from a second. His recent benching in Denver does leave a bad taste in your mouth but his resume speaks for itself. The 2017 NFL passing touchdown leader is arguably known as one of the greatest dual-threat Quarterbacks of all time.

Notable Achievements: Super Bowl champion (XLVIII)

Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year (2020)

Second-team All-Pro (2019)

9× Pro Bowl (2012–2015, 2017–2021)

Donavan McNabb - Infamously known for what he did not accomplish as an Eagle, the former 1st round pick out of Syracuse enjoyed an 13 year career that saw him rack up over 37,000 career passing yards, 98 career wins, 9 postseason wins with three consecutive trips to the NFC championship game. McNabb was a gamer with the propensity to make timely plays. He currently sits as the Eagles all time leader in almost every major passing category.

Notable Achievements: eighth quarterback in NFL history with more than 3,000 career rushing yards; the fourth quarterback to amass over 30,000 passing yards, 200 touchdown passes, 3,000 rushing yards, and 20 rushing touchdowns in the regular season; and the third quarterback with over 3,000 passing yards, 400 rushing yards, and 25 total touchdowns in the playoffs.

Michael Vick - No one played the game more aesthetically pleasing than Vick, as he routinely made defenders look silly with his jukes and cuts during his time as a Atlanta Falcon. The 4 time Pro Bowler revolutionized how the game is played becoming the first quarterback to have a thousand yards rushing in a single season. After his career took an abrupt halt in 2007 due to a dogfighting controversy, Vick displayed his resilience by becoming the 2010 Comeback Player of the year with the Eagles.

Notable Achievements: Led the Falcons to two playoff runs, a division title and a Championship game appearance

Career yards per carry: 7.0

Career rushing yards by a quarterback: 6,109

First black qb to be selected first overall 2001

Vince Young - The 2006 Offensive Rookie of the Year amassed a 30-17 record as the starter for the Tennessee Titans. One of the greatest college Qbs of all time gets this spot because of his undeniable impact on how the game is played today. Young was ahead of his time, with his superb running skills and lightning quick release. The 2 time Pro Bowler and the 2009’s Sporting News Comeback Player of the year, finished his career as a backup but the highs were astronomical.

Notable Achievements: 3rd overall pick in the 2006 draft - 2008 Madden cover athlete

Jalen Hurts - Leading your team the Superbowl is no easy feat, just ask the next QB on this list. Doing so in your 2nd season is even more difficult. Especially with his inexperience and obvious passing limitations at that point in his career. The two time Pro Bowler gets this spot because of his upward trajectory and his track record of sustained success and excellence. I wouldn't be surprised if we see the Eagles in the big game as soon as next season.

Notable Achievements: Most rushing touchdowns in a season by a quarterback: 15 (tied)

Most rushing yards in a Super Bowl by a quarterback: 70

Most rushing touchdowns in a Super Bowl by a quarterback: 3

Dak Prescott - Say what you want about Dak Prescott, but when it comes to this list the three time Pro Bowler is definitely top ten. Bursting onto the scene with fellow rookie Ezekiel Elliot in 2016, the Dallas Cowboys QB has amassed nearly 30,000 career passing yards, 28 career rushing touchdowns, and for a time was on the short list for MVP during the 2023 season, leading the league in touchdown passes. A deep playoff run will boost his resume on this list and others.

Notable Achievements:  Highest passer rating by a rookie quarterback (104.9)

Highest completion percentage by a rookie quarterback: (67.8%)

Most wins in a season by a rookie quarterback: 13 (tied)

Outside Looking In:

Deshawn Watson - Pure talent lands him ahead of the others in this group. I wouldn't be surprised if Watson’s resume improves after a potential drama free, healthy offseason. 2023 was the exception not the rule.

Kyler Murray - 2019’s offensive rookie of the year has a lot to prove but i honestly like what i've seen so far. The Cardinals aren’t known for winning and it isn't a surprise that he may be the greatest QB in the team's history despite only being a pro for 5 seasons. Elite dual skills has him edging out a lot of our early 2000s favorites.

Daunte Culppepper - His heyday was with the Minnesota Vikings where he spearheaded a daunting aerial attack led by stand out wide receivers Randy Moss and Chris Carter. After being hit with the injury bug around 2005 his career never was the same afterwards. But no one can deny his 3 Pro Bowl appearances and his magical 2004 campaign where he set the NFL record for most total yardage produced by an NFL QB.

Colin Capernick - Mired in controversy because of his stance on Police brutality, “Cap” had a solid start to his career that saw him minutes away from a Super Bowl victory. He currently holds the records for most rushing yards in a game by a Quarterback  and the record for most rushing yards by a QB in a single postseason.

A few names you have probably forgotten:

Aaron Brooks - Played 6 seasons for the New Orleans Saints. Retired in 2007 as the Saints' leader in season and career touchdown passes.

Quincy Carter - More famously known for his impressive college career at the University of Georgia, the former second round pick enjoyed a decent Pro career, leading the ‘03 Cowboys to a 10-6 record and a playoff berth.

Byron Leftwich - Another college standout, Byron was the face of the Jacksonville Jaguars for a time. After injuries forced him to a backup role, he finally captured a Super Bowl ring with the Steelers in 2009.

BALTIMORE — On Thursday, city officials revealed during a press conference that boxer Gervonta "Tank" Davis is actively contributing to the revitalization of the West Baltimore neighborhood where he grew up. Davis recently bought two buildings on Woodyear Street, which is just the beginning to building up his community.

I definitely want to thank everybody that was included and helped us make this happen,” Davis said. “I feel as though when I was coming up, we didn’t have somebody to be hands-on with us.
— Gervonta Davis

Aside from boxing, Davis has aspirations of investing into the youth in Baltimore and cites this as a major key to improving the city. The renovations will commence with the vacant building at 1542 North Woodyear Street. Nine other properties on the same block are set to be acquired and renovated by GTD Development, renovated, and eventually used to create affordable housing.

Davis also received a City Council of Baltimore Presidential Citation from City Council member Nick Mosby. Mosby praised Davis for his mentorship efforts to the youth and his contributions to his community.

Tank, when he goes around the world, he literally carries the city of Baltimore on his back,” Baltimore City Council President Nick Mosby said. “For you to come back, invest in your hometown, invest in your community, and invest in your block - is truly, truly special.
— Nick Mosby

This is just the beginning for Davis as he plans to build more homes and safe recreational spaces. Davis using his platform and resources to reach back and help those in need is what we need to see from other well known figures. It’s great to see Davis not only killing it in the ring, but being a leader in the community as well.

Shaquille O’Neal and Allen Iverson Return to Reebok as President and Vice President of Basketball

Shaquille O’Neal and Allen Iverson are the new faces of Reebok Athletics, tasked with rebuilding the brand's reputation and re-launching Reebok Basketball in 2025, bridging the past and the future. We discuss it here.

By: Joshua Martin

Shaquille O’Neal, a four-time NBA champion and arguably one of the greatest big men to ever play the game, is teaming up with 2000s NBA legend Allen Iverson to become the new faces of Reebok Athletics. The two will serve as President and Vice President, respectively.

Reebok announced that the shoe company aims to rebuild its reputation in team sports after leaving Adidas and being acquired by Authentic Brand Group for $2.46 billion in 2022. Reebok executives said the company plans to fully re-launch Reebok Basketball in early 2025.

In his new role as President of Basketball, Shaq will lead strategy, partnerships, and relationships with athletes and organizations to expand the Reebok basketball brand. Additionally, O’Neal went on to praise “The Answer” for his impact on the game of basketball and his overall cultural impact.

Al is a founding father of Reebok Basketball and has left a lasting impact on the game and its surrounding culture.
— Shaquille O’Neal

O’Neal has a history with Reebok, having launched the brand's first signature shoe, the Shaq Attaq series in 1992. However, he parted ways with the shoe company after an incident leaving the Orlando Magic facility after a practice, which ultimately led to his decision to leave the brand.

Shaquille O'Neal

Reebok Shaq Attack

Upon leaving Reebok in 1998, Shaq partnered with Walmart to start his affordable show, “The Dunk Man”. The shoe brand ultimately sold 400 million pairs of sneakers. The shoes were priced between $19 and $29 and were sold in almost every Walmart in the country.

Shaq reconnected with Reebok in 2012 to relaunch his signature shoe in retro fashion. In a recent statement, Reebok said it aims to honor and incorporate the legacy of basketball legends beyond their playing days and that is reflected in bringing Shaq and Iverson on board in big roles.

Allen Iverson

Reebok Question

As a president, I know what my role is. I’m gonna be focusing on player development and partnerships.
— Shaquille O’Neal

Like Shaq, Iverson’s main focus will be to help drive player recruitment while simultaneously building grassroots and community-based initiatives, and athlete activations.

It’s all about product, players, and the community and having the confidence to do things our own way. We need to capitalize on Reebok’s heritage and product expertise in the sport for today’s youth, but also focus on getting involved in the community from a grassroots level. We’re going to bring in a new generation of players who have strong authenticity and passion, or what I like to refer to as the it factor, who can put their own mark on this brand and make it relevant to a whole new generation.
— Shaquille O’Neal

Nike continues to completely dominate the basketball shoe market, particularly with the Air Jordan brand. Reebok has underperformed in that market in recent decades but Shaq and Iverson may be the best way for the company to bridge the past and the future.

The One Step Closer Gala was a success. Held in Harriman, Tennessee, this event was organized by Olympian Sharrieffa Barksdale to raise funds for track renovations at her high school's track, which was named after her in 1984. Sharrieffa's Gala brought together top Olympic track athletes, coaches, Olympic staff, and artists from around the world. Before the Gala kicked off, Sharrieffa visited Roane County High School to deliver a motivational speech to the students, emphasizing the importance of pursuing their dreams and working hard to achieve their goals. Following her speech at Roane County High School, the City of Harriman, Tennessee, including the fire department, police department, and Mayor Wayne Best, presented Sharrieffa Barksdale with a $5,000 check to support her track renovation project.

Sharrieffa’s Sorority was also in attendance, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. and they were able to make a gracious contribution and donation to the cause. Right now Sharrieffa has raised over $60,000 to go towards the Sharrieffa Barksdale Track and is continuing to raise more money until she reaches the goal. The track right now is a concrete track and the renovation will consist of an asphalt bound surface. The track will be a great tool for Harriman High School. They can build a great track team or have the next Olympic athlete.

Damian Lillard Trade Shakes Up NBA Landscape

Portland Trail Blazers trade Damian Lillard in a surprising move, shaking up the NBA and sparking anticipation for the upcoming season. We discuss it here!

The moment sports fans have begrudgingly been waiting for has finally happened but not to the destination many of us thought. In a surprising move the Portland Trail Blazers finally parted ways with the organization's brightest star, in a 3 team deal that had the entertainment world buzzing.

Camron and Snoop Dogg offered their thoughts as soon as word of the trade began to circulate.

Going to the East, nephew. Ball out. You got Giannis on your squad now. Ugh! The East just got nasty. Lakers, we know what we gon’ do. But congrats to my nephew, Dame Lillard. Dame Time. Go get yours, nephew.
— Snoop Dogg

The trade officially went down on Wednesday between the Bucks, Portland Trail Blazers, and Phoenix Suns. In exchange for Dame D.O.L.L.A., the Blazers received Jrue Holiday, DeAndre Ayton, Toumani Camara along with future draft picks with many believing Holiday will soon be traded. The Suns received Jusuf Nurkic, Grayson Allen, Nassir Little, and Keon Johnson, all of whom will join a squad that bolsters a roster featuring Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and their latest addition Bradley Beal. In my opinion all three teams made out well, with Milwaukee instantly becoming title favorites.

Lillard joining focus with Giannis Antetokounmpo will mark the first time that two players have joined forces after both averaging 30 points per game the previous season. With arguably the second greatest range shooter of all time paired with the Greek Freak, the upcoming season just got a lot more interesting. It’s very likely the Bucks will snag their second championship in four years.

Damian Lillard leaves Portland after spending his entire NBA career with the organization. Over the past 11 seasons, he powered his squad to eight playoff appearances and one Western Conference Finals appearance during the 2018-2019 season. Dame throughout the years often spoke against jumping ship to join a superteam, opting to remain committed to the Trail Blazers despite not having a real shot at a title.

The athlete/rapper took the on brand approach and addressed the trade in his latest track “Farwell” which dropped immediately after news broke of the trade.

Dame D.O.L.L.A. - Farewell

Dame left it all on the court. Carving out a unique role for himself as an unstoppable efficient range shooter with the ability to facilitate and attack the basket with ease.

In summation, the NBA does an excellent job at remaining in the news cycle year round. This recent deal only intensifies the anticipation for the upcoming season. With the biggest domino finally on the move, even the casual fan can’t help but wonder who’s next? James Harden? Joel Embid? Trae Young? Karl-Anthony Towns? We’ll just have to wait and see.

What's Next For USA Basketball?

The USA basketball team has left the World Cup Games for the second consecutive time without a medal as they lost the Bronze Medal game in overtime to Canada. We discuss it here!

The USA basketball team has left the World Cup Games for the second consecutive time without a medal as they lost the Bronze Medal game in overtime to Canada. This is only Canada's second medal in international basketball competition since 1936, behind a dominant performance from Shai Gileous Alexander who had 31 points and 12 assists. After starting 4-0, the USA team stumbled to the finish line losing 3 of their last 4 including close losses to Lithuania and Germany finishing 4th Place with a 5-3 record.

The emergence of Anthony Edwards and Austin Reeves were the only bright spots for the USA team as the team looked overwhelmed and incohesive.  The USA team can still redeem themselves in the upcoming Olympic Games as they won gold both times. They missed a medal in 2006 and 2019, although many are feeling a need to revamp the team,  and maybe the coaching, as the team lacks the star power and roster balance to compete. Coach Kerr’s small ball five guard rotations were continuously outplayed by bigger teams and seemingly unable to stop anyone defensively. Germany’s big man and NBA journeyman Daniel Theis scored 21 points after only scoring 21 or more six times in his entire NBA career. Canada’s Dillon Brook’s 39 points were more points than he’s ever scored in any NBA game.

With USA’s ‘C’ team failing to medal, the question is, what’s next for USA Basketball?

LeBron James has entered the chat with a tweet. LBJ posts a cryptic ‘eyes emoji’ over an NBA CENTRAL tweet that has sent the sports world into a frenzy. LeBron James was a part of the disappointing 2004 Bronze team before joining forces with the late great Kobe Bryant for the Redeem team in 2008 and bringing back gold to the States. LeBron hasn’t played in international competitions since 2016 and it looks like he may be eyeing a comeback and last dance for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Many are hoping the recruiters can get Durant, Curry, Tatum, and the NBA’s elite to join him and bring back the Gold to the USA. Throw in the God of USA Basketball, Carmelo Anthony, and we may see the medal again.

Damar Hamlin is releasing his documentary entitled Did We Win, which will follow the Buffalo Bills' safety and his miraculous recovery after almost dying on the football field. The title of the film references a question Hamlin asked from the hospital after waking from a medically induced sedation. According to reports, Damar’s team has been recording his journey since arriving at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. The film will document how he fought to regain his strength and handle life after his terrifying injury against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football.

He was discharged from the hospital on January 9th, 2023, and was briefly monitored at his Buffalo, N.Y. home. After his release, the professional athlete opened up about suffering from commotio cordis, a rare form of cardiac arrest.

Not to sound cliché, man, but the ‘wow moment’ is every day just being able to wake up and just take deep breaths and live a peaceful life. To have a family, to have people around me that love me, that care about me, and for those people to still have me in their lives. They almost lost me. I died on national TV in front of the whole world. That right there is just the biggest blessing of it all. For me to still have my people and for my people to still have me.
— Damar Hamlin

Clay Tweel directed the documentary with Beau Flynn handling production duties through FlynnPictureCo company. Skydance Sports and NFL Films will serve as the sports doc’s executive producers.

Damar is a real-life superhero. His impact and recovery in such a short period of time has been extraordinary to witness. I am honored that he and his family have entrusted us. Damar’s incredible story needed to be shared with audiences and look forward to taking this step into nonfiction with him.
— Beau Flynn

The 25-year-old made the Bills 53-man active roster last month. He will serve as the Bills' backup safety this season.

USA basketball falls to Lithuania

USA basketball falls to Lithuania with 104-110 points making it their first loss of the 2023 FIBA World Cup Games. We discuss it here!

247 Live Culture

By: Vince Wilson

USA basketball falls to Lithuania with 104-110 points making it their first loss of the 2023 FIBA World Cup Games. The final score appears a lot closer than it was as Lithuania got out to a twenty-point lead in the first half. Ending the first quarter with a 31-12 lead they killed the US from behind the stripe, eventually finishing shooting a scorching 14 of 25 from three-point land.

The US team made a valiant late-game comeback behind Anthony Edwards' efficient 35 points but Lithuanian led a balanced attack. They had seven players with double-digit production even with their best player, All-NBA Center Domantus Sabonis sitting out.

Anthony Edwards

Photo Credit: USA Basketball (via Twitter)

Lithuania's big men Valincuinas and Sedekerskis carved up the US defense as they dominated the glass combining for 18 rebounds between them. The USA’s starting center and reigning Defensive Player of the Year, Jaren Jackson managed just 1 rebound, 3 points, and 5 fouls in the loss. Being the lone bright after being relegated to a 6th man spot early on in the tournament, Edwards was the main scoring option and playmaker. Often bringing up the ball and controlling the possession with a pick-and-roll situation. USA basketball just didn’t have enough to throw at Lithuania as many possessions were last-ditch efforts to Edwards, hoping he would make something happen, which he did more often than not.

Lithuania remained undefeated at 5-0 and stood at the top of Group J as the USA fell to 4-1 in the tournament, although still qualifying for the quarterfinals and Olympic Games. Lithuania has always been a European powerhouse, delivering the US one of the most devastating losses in our international history in 2004. The US team would never recover and stumble to a disappointing Bronze medal. Hopefully, history will not repeat itself.

Coach Prime Leads Colorado Buffaloes to Stunning Upset Victory in Coaching Debut

Coach Prime and his newly restructured Colorado Buffaloes made a powerful statement. Despite being massive 21-point underdogs following a dismal 1-11 season, the Buffaloes shocked the defending national runner-up, staging a remarkable comeback for a 45-42 victory that left the Amon G. Carter Stadium crowd in disbelief. This win marked Colorado's first road victory since 2021 and broke a streak of 24 consecutive losses when considered underdogs by 21 points or more.

We told you we comin’ we told you we comin’. You thought we were joking but guess what? We keep receipts.
— Coach Prime via FOX

Following three impressive seasons at Jackson State, Pro Football Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders embarked on his debut with Colorado, leading a team comprising 86 fresh faces, among them his sons Shedeur and Shilo, along with Hunter.

While the spotlight was initially on Deion Sanders, his son Shedeur Sanders, the versatile Travis Hunter, and other newcomers from Colorado grabbed the attention with their exceptional performances during Saturday's game. Shedeur Sanders, who served as the team's starting quarterback, established a new single-game passing record for the Buffaloes by amassing 510 yards, becoming the first-ever Colorado QB to surpass the 500-yard milestone. His remarkable performance included 38 completions out of 47 attempts, resulting in four touchdowns and zero interceptions, with four different Colorado players accumulating over 100 receiving yards.

Travis Hunter

Hunter, ranked as ESPN's second-best recruit in the 2022 class, chose to join Deion Sanders at Jackson State over Florida State and demonstrated his talents on both offense and defense during his Colorado debut. He intercepted a pass by Chandler Morris on third-and-1 from the Colorado 4-yard line, showcasing his defensive skills. Additionally, Hunter contributed significantly to the offense with 11 receptions for 119 yards, narrowly missing additional catches with two impressive diving attempts.

Prior to Saturday, Colorado had endured a streak of 26 consecutive games with fewer than 400 yards, ranking as the longest active streak in the FBS, as per research by ESPN Stats & Information. Also, the Buffs had been among the three FBS teams that hadn't seen a 300-yard passer in the previous two seasons.

Coach Prime and his team have kicked off the season impressively. It'll be intriguing to witness their ongoing development throughout the season, particularly on the defensive end. If they can make some improvements, they could become a force in the PAC-12.
