Actress Erica Hubbard Talks Being A Leading Lady In Hollywood, Directing New Projects & More
By: Omar Cook
Chicago actress Erica Hubbard is killing the game as a leading lady in Hollywood! Hubbard got her first tv role in 1997 on the hit series ER, which led her to more film roles early in her career including Light it Up and Save the Last Dance. Erica played an iconic role as Cassandra "Cassie" Sutton on the 2007 ABC Family series Lincoln Heights. She also starred as Kiana Anderson in the 2006 film Akeelah and the Bee, and voiced the character of Abbey on the TV series The Replacements.
Erica has been digging into her director and writer bag as she’s set to go into pre-production later this year for her film Holiday Mistletoe. She also just finished a short film called Policies and Procedures, about child neglect dealing with a mother who’s an alcoholic.
“ I wanted to put that message out there to show families that come from trauma, and how they deal with the trauma, and how they can move forward in life. Or if their stuck, what makes you unstuck when you’re dealing with prior abuse in your family and to just break the generational cycle.” Erica said on on BoomBox Weekly. “That right there is important to me because that’s a huge message to me about humanity. Caring for humanity is important.”
Aside from acting and directing, Erica is giving back as she created "The Erica Hubbard Foundation" to help youth in at-risk communities. Erica dropped some gems and inspiration for upcoming actors that aspire to build their resumes. Listen to the exclusive interview on this week’s episode hosted by Gentel Sharrie.
