Zac Carson Talks His Writing Journey & Shoe Design

By: Omar Cook

Talent is something that can’t be boxed into one category, especially if you have multiple passions, and Zac Carson is proving how to truly be a jack of all trades. Between screenwriting, acting, and shoe designing, Carson is a true hustler in the entertainment industry. Carson has written over 20 screenplays, which he intends to pitch to productions in the future.

Zac’s favorite genre to write is sci-fi, which will be amazing for an industry that needs more Black sci-fi films. Zac has an interesting story as he struggled with reading and writing at an early age and he overcame that obstacle by focusing on what he liked; reading Harry Potter books and watching TV.

Aside from entertainment, Zac was an exceptional athlete, being a division 1 track runner. Not a bad resume for someone in their early 30s. Being a high level athlete has given Zac the tools to be successful in his post-athlete career as he has put his energy into his own personal ventures.

It definitely is a balancing act. I feel like the only way to be successful is if you keep trying, and keep failing, and keep trying again until you succeed. Stick to the course.

His dedication to spreading positive energy, recognizing exceptional individuals and organizations, and giving back to the community led to the creation of the AFRO Awards—an initiative celebrating those who have made substantial contributions to our global society. Through his ongoing work, Taiwo Oduala continues to be a catalyst for positive change, leaving an enduring impact in the world of entertainment and beyond.

Taiwo initially had the vision to create the AFRO Awards before COVID disrupted the plans. However, in 2022, he took action to turn that vision into reality. His motivation was to give back to his community, inspired by other platforms that celebrate African and African American culture, such as the Pan African Film Festival. His goal is to promote cultural understanding, tolerance, and awareness through various forms of entertainment. The AFRO Awards is on track to become a significant event within the African and African American entertainment community.

Taiwo is not only a filmmaker but also an actor. He has directed notable projects, including ILU America (Land of America), Loving A Younger Man, and Golden Love. He also recently completed two projects, 'Dreaming of America' and 'Love from Germany,' and made a significant announcement regarding 'King of California,' which is slated to be a box office movie. He sheds light on the sacrifices he made during the creation of 'ILU America' (Land of America) and the awards it eventually garnered, stating, 'I sold my house in Africa to fund that film,' as Taiwo revealed during an interview on BoomBox Weekly.

Nic Harris Talks His Versatile Journey from NFL to Mentorship and Entertainment

By: Adonis Armstrong

Nic Harris, Alexandria, Louisiana's own, made a name for himself as a versatile American football player. His journey began in college, where he played football for the University of Oklahoma. During his college career, he showcased his adaptability by excelling in both safety and linebacker positions. In 2009, Nic Harris took the next step in his football career when he was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the fifth round of the NFL Draft as the 147th overall pick. His transition from college safety to NFL linebacker demonstrated his willingness to take on different roles. Throughout his NFL career, he also had stints with the Carolina Panthers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Post-NFL, Harris explored various business ventures and contributed to sports management and player development. His journey exemplifies his adaptability and commitment to the game of football.

In 2009, Nic started his first camp, coinciding with his NFL draft year, driven by a desire to make a positive impact and be the role model I needed as a kid. After a hiatus due to injuries, he decided to revive the camp because gun violence was on the rise in my hometown, Alexandria, Louisiana, and local kids lacked constructive activities. Without sponsors, just personal texts to friends for donations. This past summer, he hosted 118 kids who were eager to participate. “We were committed to continuing this effort as long as we can make a difference in their lives, even if it means coming out of my own pocket,” Nic mentioned on BoomBox Weekly.

Nic stars in movies and TV shows such as the reboot of 'White Men Can't Jump,' 'All American,' and contributes to Madden, where he has been involved in enhancing gameplay and now represents an animated character in the game. Additionally, Nic serves as a West Coast liaison for the NFL. He has worked with renowned actors like Will Smith in 'Focus' and played a role in Dwayne Johnson's hit show 'Ballers.' Currently, he is actively developing a new show that aims to shed light on the less commonly seen aspects of the sports world, showcasing the challenges faced by those striving to make it.
