Singer Remey Williams Talks Creating Music That Heals & Inspiring the Next Generation
By: Omar Cook
On the latest episode of BoomBox Weekly, rising R&B singer, songwriter, and musician Remey Williams delivers a powerful and heartfelt conversation about his journey, creative purpose, and the impact he hopes to leave on the world through his music.
Born and raised in Camden, New Jersey, Remey grew up immersed in the sounds of soul and gospel. As the son of Jimmy Williams, bassist for the legendary O’Jays, and Linda Williams, a devoted Baptist, music was woven into the fabric of his life from a young age. At just 10 years old, he found his escape from the violence of his environment behind a drum set—first at church, then across stages nationwide.
Now based in Atlanta, Remey opens up on BoomBox Weekly about relocating to surround himself with Black excellence and like-minded creatives. His mission goes far beyond music. He speaks passionately about mentoring young men in his community, being a role model to his nephews, and showing the next generation that greatness is possible through authenticity and perseverance.
“My goal is not to create music that is here today and gone tomorrow,” Remey says, “It’s to create music that will bring you into my world.” That world is one where chivalry still exists, vulnerability is strength, and songs are crafted with intention and healing at their core.
Remey also discusses the viral mashups that helped build his following online, landing his single "Real Love Ain’t Safe" on the hit TV show Power, and his continued drive to secure more TV placements. Throughout the episode, he encourages fellow creatives to use their gifts boldly and never let others project fear onto their dreams.
Having played behind major artists such as India Shawn, Jacob Latimore, Vedo, Nicole Wray, and St. Beauty on tour with Janelle Monáe, Remey Williams is no stranger to the stage—but it’s his purpose-driven message and unwavering authenticity that truly set him apart.
