A film chronicling the life and tragic death of George Floyd entitled Daddy Changed the World is currently in the works. The biopic is set to be executive produced by Floyd’s daughter Gianna Floyd and her mother Roxie Washington. The biopic will apparently not portray the late 46-year-old as a perfect person, but rather a father with human flaws.
George Floyd was murdered on May 25, 2020, after Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin used excessive force while arresting Floyd, forcefully kneeling on the victim’s neck for more than nine minutes. The entire incident was caught on video in which Floyd could be heard saying “I can’t breathe” while being suffocated by Chauvin. Floyd’s murder sparked global outrage and fueled an entire movement against police brutality.
The following year, Chauvin was convicted of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter and sentenced to more than 20 years in prison.
Washington, the mother of Floyd’s surviving daughter, spoke on the impact she hopes her late partner’s story will have on viewers.
“We are excited the world will see the real, jovial, and loving George we know. This film will humanize him, embody the essence of his life, and hopefully reignite efforts to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. It’s time for justice and equality for all.”
She went on to express her gratitude for the support her and her daughter received in the wake of Floyd’s passing.
“We need to make changes swiftly. No other child should lose their father like Gianna did. We thank everyone who stood with us and protested. George’s legacy will live on through this film.”
The screenplay for Daddy Changed the World will be written by Gregory R. Anderson. A director has yet to be announced. The film will be made in conjunction with Radar Pictures, 8 Queens Film & Media Productions and Night Fox Entertainment.
In May 2022, U.S. President Joe Biden signed the George Floyd Justice In Policing Act. A change in legislation that in the President’s words is aimed to “deliver the most significant police reform in decades.”

The two time Oscar award winner and one half of the Neptunes, Pharrell Williams, is teaming up with LEGOs and Focus Features to tell his life story in a new film entitled, Piece by Piece. Uninterested in making a traditional biopic, P wanted to tell his story in a way that would set the viewer's imagination free. The multi talented musician and thirteen time Grammy award winner made a post via Instagram to drop a teaser poster for the film.
The poster includes a picture of golden Lego blocks being built, ending in Williams’ walking and donning his Louis Vuitton “Damoflage” print.
“Who would’ve thought that playing with Legos as a kid would evolve into a movie about my life. You Can Do It Too. It’s proof that anyone else can do it too… #PieceByPiece.”
According to a press release from Lego, Piece By Piece defies genres and expectations to transport audiences into a LEGO world where anything is possible. The film will be produced by Oscar Award-winner Morgan Neville and Caitrin Rogers in conjunction with “i am OTHER” which is run by Williams, Shani Saxon and Mimi Valdes. The Lego Group’s Jill Wilfert and Keith Malone are tagged as executive producers. Focus Features Chairman Peter Kujawski lauded Skateboard P’s influence. Highlighting his creativity and passion to inspire.
“Pharrell Williams is a true trailblazer whose influence across music, art, and fashion continually reshapes global culture with an undeniable sense of joy. In partnering with the inimitable Morgan Neville and the limitless creativity of the Lego brand his visionary spirit comes to life in a wholly unique and uplifting way that will inspire everyone to dance, to sing, and to use their voice to build the world they want to see, brick by brick, and piece by piece.”
In 2019 Williams presented the concept to Neville and his team, they were so enamored with the idea they began to work on the project immediately.
“Five years ago, Pharrell Williams approached me with the idea of helping him tell his story through Lego animation. It was one of those rare moments where I knew in a second that this was a journey I wanted to go on. I’m grateful to our partners at Focus Features and at the Lego Group for their belief in our crazy mission. We assembled an incredible team of creative collaborators to help make a new type of film. I can’t wait for people to see it.”
It's unclear at this time what aspects of Williams’ life will be focused on in the film but the singer grew up in Virginia before becoming a highly successful music producer and artist. Piece By Piece will be released in theaters later this fall on October 11th.
