Peacock has released a full trailer for its forthcoming limited series ‘Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist.’ Based in the 1970’s, the series puts the spotlight on both the A-list cast and the style at the time.
Kevin Hart stars as a hustler named the ‘Chicken Man’ and per the show’s description he “hosts an afterparty to celebrate the fight with a guest list of the country’s wealthiest. The night ends with the most brazen criminal underworld heist in Atlanta’s history. Suspected of masterminding the crime, Chicken Man is hellbent on clearing his name but must convince his old adversary, J.D. Hudson (Don Cheadle), one of the first Black detectives in the city’s desegregated police force, who is tasked with bringing those responsible to justice.”
The story is based on a true story about armed robbery on the night of Muhammad Ali’s 1970 comeback fight in Atlanta. It will also tell the story of how Atlanta became known as the “Black Mecca” of the United States.
Peacock ordered the series in 2023 and is based on a iHeart podcast written by Jeff Keating and Jim Roberts. Shaye Ogbonna (The Chi) created the series and will serve as co-showrunner alongside Jason Horwitch. Widely renowned as one of the greatest actors of his generation, Samuel L. Jackson is teaming up with comedy legend Kevin Hart to continue his rise in television with Peacock’s new true crime series Fright Night: The Million Dollar Heist. Sources say the show was green-lit in December with Hart tabbed as the lead.
Sources say Jackson will star as the notorious gangster Frank Moten, who at the time was described as the “Black Godfather” by New York newspapers.

The limited series is based in Atlanta during the 1970s. According to the show's official description, it will tell “the infamous story of how an armed robbery during the night of Muhammad Ali’s historic 1970 comeback fight changed not only one man’s life but an entire city’s destiny.”
The official podcast launched in 2020 and consists of 10 episodes.
Below is a detailed description of the storyline from one of its episodes.
"On October 26, 1970, Muhhammad Ali triumphantly returned to the world of boxing in Atlanta, Georgia. But every national front-page headline the next morning featured the story of one of the biggest heists in history. At the center of it all – a hustler named ‘Chicken Man.’ Fans arrived in Rolls Royces delivered from New York City. Adorned in vibrant fur coats and dripping with diamonds, they grabbed engraved invitations then strutted into the arena. The sold-out crowd stood and cheered when the first-round bell rang, minus two empty seats. After the fight, many celebrating the victory, including top black mafia leaders, headed to Chicken Man’s house with invitation in hand. Instead of women and wine greeting them at the front door, each walked into the barrel of a sawed-off shotgun. On FIGHT NIGHT, J.D. Hudson, one of the first black detectives in Atlanta’s desegregated police force helped lead Muhammed Ali into the ring. The next day, he was assigned to the robbery by the chief of police. When asked by a journalist years later, ‘When did the investigation end?’ J.D. summed it up perfectly, ‘When everybody was dead."
Writer Shaye Ogbonna will serve as creator and showrunner, with contributions from Kevin Hart’s Hartbeat and Packer’s Will Packer Media. The show’s premiere date will be announced at a later date.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts revealed on Wednesday (Nov. 15) that Kevin Hart is set to receive the 25th Mark Twain Prize For American Humor. Respected comedians such as Richard Pryor, Whoopi Goldberg, Will Ferrell, Eddie Murphy, and Dave Chappelle have previously been honored with this prestigious award.
Hart, 44, started his career during his teenage years by showcasing his talent at places like The Laff House in Philadelphia, adopting the moniker Lil Kev. Reflecting on those early stand-up gigs, he described a series of tough setbacks, including facing repeated booing from the audience and even, as he recounted, having food thrown at him, like a piece of chicken, during a performance.
“I’ve been doing comedy since the inception of this award 25 years ago. To be honored in this commemorative year feels surreal. Comedy is my outlet for social commentary and observations on life — I am grateful to the Kennedy Center for recognizing my voice and impact on culture. I can’t wait to celebrate!”
Kennedy Center President Deborah F. Rutter also conveyed her thoughts on Hart's upcoming recognition. “For over three decades, Kevin Hart has been a source of laughter across America and throughout the world with his iconic characters, inimitable physical comedy and relatable narratives,” she stated. “An accomplished writer, producer, actor and comedian, he has made lasting contributions to the comedic landscape and represents our celebration of American humor at the Kennedy Center.”
As disclosed by the Kennedy Center, 11 of Hart’s movies premiered as the top-grossing films at the box office. The Hartbeat Productions head has also accumulated over $4.23 billion in global earnings. In July, he made a comeback to stand-up with his eighth special, Reality Check, exclusively streamed on Peacock. Scheduled for 2024, Hart is set to star in two movies, Lift and Borderlands.
Beyond his entertainment ventures, Hart extended his influence into the food industry through his plant-based restaurant chain, Hart House. By the way, Hart House is pretty good—keep striving for excellence, Kev.
Hart is scheduled to accept his award at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on March 24, with the ceremony's broadcast date yet to be announced.
