Tory Lanez drops “The New Toronto 3”

By: Omar Cook

Tory Lanez dropped his highly anticipated 5th studio album The New Toronto 3. This album marks the last album that Tory is contractually obligated to release through Interscope Records after creative differences with the label.

This album puts Tory center stage as he only has 2 features on the entire 16 track album with Lil Tjay and Mansa as opposed to his last project Chixtape 5 which had a host of star studded features. Tory admitted that a lot of the music he put over the past 4 years were songs to get fans by and fill his quota, as he neared the end of his deal. On his track “Letter To The City 2”, he details his frustrations about his experience during the past few years dealing with his label.

New Toronto 3 Tracklist

Tory built a major recent buzz lately capitalizing on most of the world being stuck in the house due to the pandemic by creating a live instagam series which he calls “Quarantine Radio”, which has gathered hundreds of thousands off viewers at a time. Perfect timing to drop his album, which definitely did not disappoint.

The album features a vibe for just about anyone from turn up tracks like “Stupid Again” to more mellow tracks like “Penthouse Red”. Tory is one of the few artists that has the versatility to switch between raw rap lyrics to singing R&B. The project is fire to say the least and if this is foretelling of whats to come from Tory, expect some dope creative releases real soon as an independent artist. Check out the project below.

11 Nipsey Hussle Songs To Keep You Motivated During Quarantine

By: Omar Cook

Nipsey Hussle is one of the most influential artists of our generation; outside of the dope musical production, Nipsey is one of the few artists to incorporate true motivational messages with raw lyrics.

On every project from Bullets Ain't Got No Name Vol.1 to Victory Lap, you can hear not only the musical growth, but the personal growth due to the things he was speaking about, which makes him that much more inspiring. If Nipsey were still with us, we would be getting some dope inspirational content for sure, but he served his purpose while he was here and left us with some gems that will live on forever.

Here is a compilation of 11 Nipsey Hussle songs that will keep you motivated during the times you need it the most! Listen up and add them to your playlist!

1. Nipsey Hussle featuring Marsha Ambrosius - Real Big

Real big, real big
I knew one day I would do it real big
Real shit, real shit
I know all my real niggas feel this
Night time, locs on
Can't even see the stars, but we still wish
Real shit, real shit
Who would've ever thought that we would build this

Nipsey Hussle feat Marsha Ambrosius - Real Big

2. Nipsey Hussle - Dedication featuring Kendrick Lamar

Dedication, hard work plus patience
The sum of all my sacrifice, I'm done waitin'
I'm done waitin', told you that I wasn't playin'
Now you hear what I been sayin', dedication
It's dedication

Dedication feat. Kendrick Lamar - Nipsey Hussle, Victory Lap [Official Audio]

3. Nipsey Hussle featuring June Summers - Bigger Than Life

So life is what you make it
I hope you make a movement
Hope your opportunity survives the opportunist
Hoping as you walk across the sand you see my shoeprint
And you follow, til it change your life, it's all an evolution
And I hope you find your passion, cause I found mine in this music
But I hope it's not material cause that's all an illusion

Nipsey Hussle - Bigger Than Life ft. June Summers

4. Nipsey Hussle featuring Stacy Barthe - Victory Lap

I'm finna take it there
This time around I'ma make it clear
Spoke some things into the universe and they appeared
I say it's worth it, I won't say it's fair
Find your purpose or you wasting air

Nipsey Hussle - Victory Lap feat. Stacy Barthe [Official Video]

5. Nipsey Hussle - Hussle and Motivate

Fuck living basic, I'm taking risks
Fuck what they saying, I'm saying this
Don't waste your time, it don't make you rich, it don't mean nothing
So fuck 'em so let's make a grip
Double up, triple up, make assist

Hussle and Motivate - Nipsey Hussle (Official Video)

6. Nipsey Hussle featuring Dubb - Don't Take Days off

Won't take no loss, won't take days off
We go so hard, until we fall
Won't take no loss, won't take days off
We go so hard, until we fall

A nigga used to dream, my reality's a dream now
Nigga used to dream, my reality's a dream now
I'm livin' out my dreams now
Livin' out my dreams now now now

Nipsey Hussle - Don't Take Days off (feat. Dubb)

7. Nipsey Hussle featuring Vernardo - Be Here For A While

I'm a dropout but now I speak at colleges
Ironic, I'm honest
I get paid to speak my mind, and it's crazy to me
Just pay me, fooly; if I wrote a script, it'd be a crazy movie
About my life, about rolling dice
About taking risks, you gotta know the price
Gotta know yourself, on the coldest nights
Can't turn it down, you gotta own the fight
Win, lose, or draw, you could ball
You could've kept it real, but nigga, you's a fraud
Before you get the shit, you gotta lose it all
And then you find yourself and see that you's a God
And that's real shit, thousand hundred dollar bill shit
From hood to the hills shit, like, "How the fuck did we build this?"

Be Here For A While (ft. Vernardo) - Nipsey Hussle (Mailbox Money)

8. Nipsey Hussle - That’s How I Knew

I seen it, I thought it, I dreamed it
I said it, I did it, I meant it

I want it, more of it, I fiend it
I'm godly, I'm gutter, I'm genius

That's How I Knew - Nipsey Hussle (Mailbox Money)

9. Nipsey Hussle - Respect Ya Passion

Make a million cash 'fore you flatline
Make a master plan watch it backfire
Burn it all down then collect the ashes
Build it back, respect ya passion

Nipsey Hussle - Respect Ya Passion (Prod. by Bink)

10. Nipsey Hussle - Picture Me Rollin

Feeling connected to God, tryna get closer
Steppin' on roaches, me and my locsters
Just tryna get over, tryna not to get swallowed by locus
Tryna to stay focused, kinda like moses
Like somebody chose us, this weight on my shoulders
I feel these emotions, but still I keep going

Nipsey Hussle "Picture Me Rollin" Feat. OverDoz. (WSHH Exclusive - Official Music Video)

11. Nipsey Hussle - Ocean Views

Turnin' up my grind, wakin' up to mo' pressure
But it's all in yo' mind, so I never feel pressure
Knew it's all in due time, now hundreds stackin' like tetris
Hussle hard is my masses and double back and get extras

By: Omar Cook

Los Angeles singer Car*L.A. dropped a new single called “Mood”! The song is an upbeat track that anyone can vibe to and serves as a potential new anthem just in time for the summer.

I just wanted something relatable that people could bob their heads to. I’m not in the mood for drama or anything that doesn’t serve me well.

Car*L.A. has been patient with releasing official music but has been consistent with doing performances and building her brand throughout Los Angeles. She brings a unique sound to her music that she calls ‘Trap&B’ due to her versatility. We can definitely expect more from this rising singer as she will be releasing more music throughout this year.

I’m planning to drop a few more releases soon. Easy listening music. My brother Clint who I work with, we call it ‘Trap&B’ because I can sing and I have the cadence needed to get these flows out too.

Car*L.A. was recently featured on a track with singer Keith Forest titled “My Favorite” where she showcases a true R and B vibe! Car*L.A. has been flying under the radar but with dope consistent releases, it will be sooner than later that you will be hearing from her in a major way! Check out “My Favorite” below!

Josh Cozy Talks The Release Of His EP “Black Smilez”
Black Smilez yo, like cliche as that is lol. Just overall a good ass, window down feeling! The ability to disconnect from all negativity for the duration of the project and enjoy some smooth, fun ass sounds.
— Josh Cozy

By: Omar Cook

North Carolina artist, Josh Cozy dropped his new EP Black Smilez!

The title of this EP stemmed from overall what I wanted to see/reflect onto others. Black Smilez, cause yo.... we go through so much, we always see pain = success and nah. Like, I wanted to show we can smile and win too. Everything doesn’t have to be a bad story before greater things.

The project features 8 tracks that you can run through with no skips. It has a feel good feeling and a good vibe that you can measure in similarity to a Goldlink project. It’s been a minute since he dropped his last project Only If You Knew, and when asked what separates this project from the last he says,

Happiness. Production. Quality.

I haven’t made anything with this type of quality before. From writing, to engineering, to beat selection. I really stepped my game up on this one and the people surrounding me. My team Black Smilez, they helped out so damn much. My boy Jae crafted the final thing so well.

Josh Cozy Talks The Release Of His EP "Black Smilez".png

Every track is dope in its own right but one stands out from the others and that’s “Doves” feat. Depore Grenade & Techsolo which will have you playing it on repeat. It has that 90s Tribe Called Quest, Pharcyde type vibe. “Your Honey” feat. Nijah Brunea, Danielle P Williams & Drew Prince is also a vibe that can’t be missed on this project.

Doves! That joint is super fly. The hook by my boy Depore is just amazing vocally. My homie techsolo hopped up there and rode that beat beautifully. I think it came together super super well. Overall the people’s fave so far numbers wise also. I enjoyed the production and witty bars from it!

With all of the craziness going on around us in the world, this project comes out in perfect timing providing some positive relief. You can definitely see the growth in his overall production on his tracks and his delivery.

I’m 100% happier finishing this and listening straight through. The work and restarts that went into this. The overthinking. The constant traveling needed to get tracks done. The daily FT calls to adjust things within the tracks. All things I wouldn’t change because I thoroughly enjoyed. I’m super proud of this. Proud of my homies around me who helped and I really hope this impacts people the way it did me.

If you’ve been following his music, you have noticed the name change from Joshua Sheeran to Josh Cozy. Often times we see artists early in their careers rebrand themselves for better marketing.

Joshua Sheeran to Josh Cozy was really more so a marketing stand point. I felt the Cozy thing had better branding for me individually and would get me away from the ‘EdSheeran’ traffic and things. Also, it felt like a fresh start. A rebrand. A whole newness in who I wanted to be as an artist. I feel now I’m really gonna push all my artistic boundaries and enjoy this.

Josh Cozy always comes through with some dope vibes and it won’t be surprising if you start to hear this artist playing on mainstream radios across the country soon. You can tell that he is authentic in what he says on his music as he discusses relatable topics and his beat selection is always A1. Download the project on apple music and stream it below!

G Herbo Reflects On Mental Health And Childhood Trauma On "PTSD" Album

On his recent album, PTSD, we follow G-Herbo’s memoir reflecting on his past and present day traumas, including remembering and honoring all of his childhood friends who’ve passed away due to violence or other traumatic activities.

G Herbo Reflects On Mental Health And Childhood Trauma On "PTSD" Album

By: James Teague

For several years now, many people have become more open towards vulnerability and expressiveness in regards to the subject of mental health. As humans, we all have experienced different types of trauma that may have short term or long term effects on us. If you’re someone like rapper G-Herbo, whose lived a compelling lifestyle that has left long term effects of trauma growing up on the Eastside of Chicago, then your POV on viewing life can be real different.

On his new album, PTSD, we follow Herbo’s memoir detailing his life as a 24 year old rapper from Chicago, reflecting on his past and present day traumas, including remembering and honoring all of his childhood friends who’ve passed away due to violence or other traumatic activities. Herbo has been teetering in between the Hip-Hop & Mainstream world, whether it’s from his musical release or a continued storyline of his past relationship with his baby’s mother Ari Fletcher, who also is IG-Famous as well.

Despite many distractions and opinions, Herbo refuses to let the distractions get to him as he focuses on using the music that he’s grown up with to help spread awareness on neighborhood kids potentially having PTSD, which can be just as severe as someone who's served in the army. Herbo shows the maturity in his music as he raps effortlessly on his Intro track, which is produced by Don Cannon & happens to use a sample of Jay-Z’s classic Dynasty intro.

Throughout the album, such records as “Gangstas Cry” with BJ the Chicago Kid, “Party in Heaven” with Lil Durk, and the title track “PTSD” with Juice Wrld, Chance the Rapper, & Lil Uzi Vert are shown to be the high points on his album. On “Feelings”, which is led by a sampling of Jadakiss song, “Still Feel Me,” Herbo begins to rap and open up about his estranged relationship with Ari Fletcher. He raps his true feelings saying,

“Talked to my kid mom today, that was kinda hard

Sick of all the drama in my life, we ain't gotta start

How the fuck we still holding grudges, you ain't got a heart?

Either way a nigga life a movie and you got a part”

One of the things that I love about this album is Herbo showing love to the OG’s that helped pave the way for him to be in the current position that he’s in. His work is being noticed by such rap influences like Jadakiss. Some footage appeared on IG not too long ago of the two rappers linking up embracing and showing love for paying homage on Feelings.

Jadakiss - Still Feel Me

One of the most underrated records for me off PTSD was “High Speed”.  On this record, we hear Herbo rapping about his last high speed chase he was involved in, detailing all of the thoughts that were going on through his head.  One can debate that in the past, the drama between Ari and himself could have almost overshadowed his music career. But the release and impact of PTSD shows otherwise. No matter the situations that may have come up, G-Herbo shows that he can and will prevail amongst all distractions

1TakeOcho Talks Release Of His EP "Ocho II"

West Coast rapper dropped his highly anticipated EP Ocho II! “I feel like my first project was raw because I was just getting into the music scene. This project is more elevated as far as how it sounds.” Stream the project here and check out what he had to say!

Ocho II

By: Omar Cook

West Coast rapper dropped his highly anticipated EP Ocho II! His first EP Ocho was a success for the upcoming rapper and this new project definitely did not dissapoint. This artist came out hot last year in 2019 with 5 hot tracks on Ocho and is continuing to make a name for himself.

It’s just a continuation of the first EP. My first EP was called Ocho. So this one is just part 2. I feel like my first project was raw because I was just getting into the music scene. This project is more elevated as far as how it sounds.

1TakeOcho

The very first track on the EP “Lowkey”, sets the whole tone for the project which is definitely a track that you can vibe too, featuring fellow artist DaiDMB and produced by Jonny Cash.

The song “Lowkey” is a banger in my book. It’s a good party banger. The beat is smooth and everything. The song “Put You On” ft. Xian Bell is a more r&b feel. I think people would fuck with that.

1TakeOcho Talks Release Of “Ocho II”

This project features 5 songs that definitely give off a dope West Coast sound. My personal favorite off the project is “Put You On” which has the most traditional R and B sound on the project. 1TakeOcho is original in his delivery as there isn’t an artist that sounds like him. He mixes raw explicit lyrics with R and B and west coast beats to produce a quality project all around.

People can expect some good sounding music and good vibes no cap! I’m pretty excited about this EP because it was a lot of quality involved as far as the cover art for and the songs on it. I hope y’all fuckin with it. I’m just tryna give y’all some good vibes.

Check out the project below!

The Most Anticipated Hip Hop Releases Of 2020

2020 is set to be a great year for new music! We discuss the most anticipated hip hop releases coming this year!

The Most Anticipated Hip Hop Releases Of 2020

By: James Teague

There’s going to be major life changes occurring all around us in this new decade and what better way to help us embrace these changes than through new music releases! New music this year will serve as our personal life soundtracks towards all newfound memories. The 2010’s started out smoking hot and progressed as the years passed. We’ve been blessed with some classic works that will be part of our lives. Even though it personally felt like the music in 2019 was lacking longevity, there were still some solid musical releases I personally enjoyed.

As we’re just now starting 2020, I'm looking forward to some of the artists we haven’t heard from in some time providing us listeners with some new vibes. I’ll be starting my 30’s in 2021 and I'm eager to know how impactful music will be to my taste and my life as I elevate in this new journey. Here is my list of artists whom I’m personally excited about that's rumored to release new music.

Noname, Smino, & Saba aka “Ghetto Sage”

Noname, Smino, & Saba aka “Ghetto Sage”

Back in October, Chicago rapper NoName announced that her, Saba, & Smino had announced that they were forming a rap supergroup called “Ghetto Sage” and went on to debut their first group sound called  “Haagen Dazs”. Each of these artists have dropped great albums at the end of the decade; NoName with Room 25, Saba with Care for ME & Smino with Noir. Even though “Haagen Dazs” is the first debut song for the group, they’ve collaborated 2 more times before becoming an official group. There’s been some talks about the group maybe having a project together but we will see as time progresses on.

The Weeknd

The Weeknd

The last time that we’ve heard from Toronto Native The Weeknd was back in 2016 when he had released his last album Starboy. Since then we’ve gotten sights of Abel doing features for rappers such as Future & Trouble. If we didn’t hear him through music, then we would hear about his personal dating matters on and off. The Weeknd decided to surprise the fanbase by dropping two new singles. His single “Heartless” is produced by Metro Boomin. No information has been released yet for his new album but I’m looking forward to this next batch of new music coming.

Partynextdoor

Partynextdoor

These days you can find Toronto native Partynextdoor playing the songwriter role. The last time we heard new music was when he released his project called “Seven Days back in 2017.” Back in August, Drake said for us to expect new music coming soon from Party. In November, Party hinted on his IG that new music was coming out that Friday and proceeded to release two new singles, “The News” and “Loyal” with Drake.  Awhile back before he went behind the scenes, Party mentioned that his next album would be titled “Club Atlantis” but there’s no confirmation on whether or not that album title still stands. For now Party has been teasing us about new music that’s coming. There’s still a special place in my heart for Party’s first two albums and i’m excited to hear what he’s cooking up with this new album at the top of the year.

G-Herbo

G-Herbo

Out of all the acts in the city, G-Herbo is considered one of my top favorite acts to come out of Chicago in the last couple of years. His last collaborative album with Southside, Swervo, is still in my music rotation since the day it released. Before the 2019 ended, Herbo had said he is currently working on his next project, PTSD. He didn’t specify when the album was coming but after surprising his fans with dropping a short but sweet project, Sessions, one can only assume that he plans to release PTSD later on sometime this year.

Tory Lanez

Tory Lanez

Even though he just recently just dropped his album Chixtape 5, Tory is always consistently working and releasing new music, whether singles or guest features. Tory has already said that he has some upcoming projects that are in the works. There are currently no release dates assigned to these new projects at this time, however one can hope that maybe Tory could drop a project maybe such as The New Toronto 3. Personally, The New Toronto series is a preferred favorite series out of the others for me.

SZA

SZA

Periodically on Social Media, via Instagram, you can catch a glimpse of TDE songstress SZA out and about living life to the fullest. She has updated us through Twitter that she is currently working on her next upcoming album. The 3 year anniversary of CTRL is around the corner and this album sounds as fresh as it did the first time it was released. No information yet has been released about the album but we’re looking forward to hearing what SZA has to say this following go round.

Isaiah Rashad

Isaiah Rashad

Recently on Twitter, Isaiah has hinted on being in a better space mentally to release the music that he loves. The last time we heard from TDE’s own was back in 2016 when he dropped his sophomore effort The Sun’s Tirade. It’s clear that Isaiah has been working on music but he’s reportedly said he was having a hard time finding his stride in making the type of music he loves. Recently he’s hinted at finding his stride out and also teased a possible collab record with Schoolboy Q with Kenny Beats on the production side. We don’t have any album information but we’re patiently waiting on Zaywop to bless us with new heat soon.

Migos

Migos

It’s been awhile since we last heard new music from Migos. Following the release of Culture 2, the rap group from Gwinnett County decided to go in a different direction by releasing their solo albums. Even though each of the members have their unique talents, we quickly realize that all three of these members are much better as one unit compared to being solo acts. Culture 3 is currently in the works, and it was mentioned that there was a chance it could be dropping sometime in the first quarter. We’ll stay tuned.

Future

Future

The Wizard has already kicked off the new year 2 for 2 with “Life is Good” with Drake and “Federal Fed” with Moneybagg Yo. If there’s one thing you can always count on every year is a brand new Future project dropping. Theres no other information on plans of Future’s next album endeavors but with “Life is Good” being released, one can be certain that Future is planning to drop soon at some point. Now whether it’s going to be another Future album or the rumored sequel to “What A Time to Be Alive,” I’m always looking forward to new projects being distributed out by The Wizard Himself.

Griselda (Westside Gunn & Madlibb/Conway)

Griselda

The Infamous crew hailing from Buffalo, New York is coming fresh off a great 2019. Members of Griselda; Benny the Butcher, Conway, & Westside Gunn have held their own in each of the latest projects released. Once the group signed with Roc Nation with the help of Jay-Z, the rap group knew what time it was. Two Projects from Westside Gunn and Conway’s collaborative effort with Madlib are planning to drop sometime this year. Westside Gunn ended up making a bold start on the end of year Rap Radar Interview with Elliot Wilson and Bdot by saying Griselda had a much better year in 2019 than TDE and Dreamville.

Rihanna

Rihanna

These days trying to get a global icon like Rihanna to drop new music is almost equivalent to pulling teeth. Rih has been busy collecting her bag with her company Fenty. There’s not a lot of information that’s out about her album outside of hearing that this next upcoming album is supposedly reggae influenced.

Drake

Drake

Whether you love him or you hate him, Drake always has a way of making the masses remember him, whether through his chart topping hits, gossip blogs/news, or finding him supporting platforms such as Rap Radar and Shop Talk. Drake seems to have moved past all of the ills that occurred from 2018 during the release of his last album Scorpion. In usual Drake fashion, he’s announced via tour that he has been hard at work on his next upcoming album. No telling when this album will come out but I can bet you he will have something out right around the summertime.

J. Cole

J Cole

Cole has already confirmed about his next upcoming album following up from KOD titled The Fall Off. He’s already been working on that album. In between time he’s also been busy giving out feature verses to rappers like Young Thug, Royce, Gangstarr, & his Dreamville roster. His team all created a moment by creating and releasing Revenge of the Dreamers 3 compilation albums featuring the members of the Dreamville roster and friends. Cole said that he’s finished with giving out feature verses and has returned back into the lab to finish up on The Fall Off. This album is set to come out sometime this year.

Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar

We’re on the cusp of hitting the 3 year anniversary mark of Kendrick Lamar’s last solo album DAMN. Granted he’s followed up with curating The Black Panther soundtrack, its been very quiet for the Compton rapper. Outside of hearing news about him having his first child with his woman, he’s stayed off the scene for quite sometime. Also what’s more telling is how there hasn’t been as many guest verses from Kendrick as before within the last few years. Things have been quiet until this past weekend, Billboard columnist and former editorial director, Bill Werde, took to his twitter and present some interesting news regarding Kendrick’s next coming album. He mentions Kendrick’s next album may be more rock influenced however he follows up clarifying that “just because recording had hit a point where folks believe it may be finished — albums go back to the studio all the time after this point, and for a million different reasons.” At this point, all we can do is just wait until the TDE superstar decides to release his album. All that we can do now is wait patiently until the TDE superstar decides its time for us to hear what he has to say.

This project really embodies the growth of someone on a journey and dealing with outgrowing people, and disappointments. The outside conflicts of the world.

By: Omar Cook

East Coast rapper, Kafar Myers, recently dropped his new mixtape Self Privilege! This project certainly didn’t disappoint as it gave a true hip hop feel, real lyrics, and dope beats!

It’s what I represent, the self privilege lifestyle, which is finding purpose within yourself. Wanted a title the spoke to everyone especially the ones that embraced superiority in individuality. This project is the soundtrack to that.

This mixtape features 8 tracks and there is no song that you will want to skip, a total complete project. The whole tape gives off J Cole vibes.

Every song is a must listen but if I had to choose one it will be track 6 WALK N WARS,
because it’s a song reflecting on the generational defects we are seeing at the moment. Situations like freshmen having babies, guns over knowledge, depression, social media bringing an addiction to live out our means.

This is the second project of the year for Kafar Myers as he dropped his album Testimony earlier this year.

This project has a more steady focus on self growth and a more vivid message from start to end. The versatility from start to finish is a credible change as well!

My personal favorite is “Fall Back” as it gives a more up beat tempo with relatable lyrics of course, but each song is dope no doubt. You get a true variety of sounds on this project.

Expect to hear a versatility of sounds. Melodic choruses and verses as well as a life changing metaphors. Story telling, with inspiring words !

Check out the project below and download to itunes now!

Death of Juice WRLD Raises The Discussion Of Drug Abuse In Hip Hop Culture

Hip Hop has always been at the forefront of growing trends in America, with drug use becoming a major focal point in the last decade. The recent death of Juice WRLD raises the discussion of drug abuse In Hip Hop culture! We discuss it here!

Death of Juice WRLD Raises The Discussion Of Drug Abuse In Hip Hop Culture

By: Omar Cook

Hip Hop for the last 40 years has been at the forefront of growing trends in America, with every decade bringing in new waves of rappers and new styles. This particular decade of the 2010s I have noticed a growing trend of glorifying drug use and it’s becoming disturbing with lives being lost unfortunately.

Just recently we lost 21 year rapper Juice WRLD to an overdose of prescription drugs. 21 y’all. The crazy thing is that this could have been prevented, and it was his own doing. We also lost legendary Mac Miller to the same issue. While these guys make some dope music, it’s obvious that hard drugs have become a major issue.

This time period is weird because it’s like, when did glorifying drugs and being high alllllll the time become the thing to do? You hear rappers daily speak about using percocets, codeine, Xanax, Molly, cocaine, etc. What issues are plaguing these rappers so much that these drugs become the only option? Hitting the blunt a few times wasn’t enough???

These rappers perpetuate this lifestyle into the minds of an already impressionable generation that holds onto rap lyrics like gold. And killing themselves in the process. I just want to say before I keep going, glorifying these drugs and being high all the time is not the wave. These are the signs of a junky.

J Cole spoke about the issues of drug abuse and drug addiction on his song “Friends” on his album KOD.

You running from yourself and you buying product again
I know you say it helps and no I'm not trying to offend
But I know depression and drug addiction don't blend
Reality distorts and then you get lost in the wind
And I done seen the combo take niggas off the deep end
One thing about your demons they bound to catch up one day
I'd rather see you stand up and face them than run away
I understand this message is not the coolest to say
But if you down to try it I know of a better way
Meditate

J. Cole - FRIENDS

We don’t get to hear about the lives of regular citizens that are lost due to these drug problems, only when celebrities or music artists die because of it. How many more people have to pass away before we start labeling this as a real problem? It would be easy to say stop supporting music that encourages this drug culture, but that would be irrational because this is a generational problem. There are a number of artists that push drug culture and normalize depression and sadness in their music.

My issue is not with the artists that choose to live this lifestyle because these are grown people making their own decisions, but the fact that their are kids and teenagers coming up that feed off of these young rappers is where this becomes a major problem. Hip hop will continue to be a major influencer but at what point do we start pushing music that speaks on real issues or encourages its audience to do better instead of continuously pushing music that sets us back?

It is very unfortunate what happened to Juice WRLD as this was another young black live lost, but he is also fully responsible for his actions. Anyone that chooses to abuse drugs will have to deal with the consequences that comes with it. The solution…don’t do drugs.

Shamba Talks Her Latest EP "Recharged"

Georgia singer, Shamba, recently dropped her new EP called Recharged, her third project this year! Check out what she had to say and listen to the project here!

Shamba Talks Her Latest Ep “Recharged”
Mike Kalombo and I definitely did something incredible with the entire Trilogy but Recharged holds the cake in my life because of how personal it was for me. The words serve such a larger purpose. Listen with intent and enjoy the pieces of the puzzle as a whole.

By: Omar Cook

Georgia singer, Shamba, recently dropped her new EP called Recharged!

I came up with “Recharged” after of course already having Reflect & Reset in mind. I wanted the EP Trilogy to have an overall story to it so I knew I wanted the last piece to embody the sort of closure needed after dealing with a “heartbreak” or a major change within yourself. Coming to the end and being able to say what you will and will not stand for anymore is a beautiful thing and that’s what I aimed for.

The project features 6 tracks that showcase her versatility from more up beat songs like “Levels” to a toned down true R&B sound on her track “Real Talk”.

Honestly the entire project is a must listen. However, “Just A Minute” & “Don’t Be Mad” are my top 2 ( if I had to choose). Kicking it off with letting everyone know you need a minute to clear your head and get yourself right, into ight i’m back with a purpose and i’m going to do everything in my power to fulfill it so don’t be mad! Those two songs embody the message of the project but absolutely every song brings something new.

Shamba Talks Her Latest Ep “Recharged”

Shamba has been working hard this year as this is his her third EP released this year after dropping both Reset and Reflect this year.

I definitely feel the confidence in my words separate this project from the others. It’s not a cockiness but more so a revelation that you are ALL THAT & a bag of chips. It serves as a reminder to be that in your everyday walk and talk. For me in my personal life, it was needed. So I felt it imperative that others have it so they can feel everything these six songs give to me.

Shamba Talks Her Latest Ep “Recharged”

This one of her best projects to date as she continues to grow her music catalogue and you can definitely hear the growth and confidence in her approach to each track.

You can expect fun & hype energy with a serious undertone. This body of work just exudes a certain narrative that I feel is a pick me up. It’s a mindset. It’s a lifestyle. Expect to be feeling yourself and not taking no crap after hearing Recharged.
