Detroit native Big Sean adds author to his impressive list of titles as he blesses his fans with a new book on mental wellness inspired by authors bell hooks and Deepak Chopra. The title of his upcoming book is ‘Go Higher: Five Practices For Purpose, Success and Inner Peace’ and is categorized as a self help book.

Sean recently shared in a video message released to social media that he will be making his debut as an author this fall and in the video he can be seen gushing over a project that he claims took “years in the making.”

I’m excited about a lot of things dropping this year but aside from the music, it’s another project that’s been years in the making and it’s finally time.
— Big Sean

In the announcement, he went on to add…

Anyone who knows me since I signed my record deal knows if you look at my old YouTubes I’ve always been about speaking from the heart, following your intuition and checking in with yourself mentally because that’s how I was raised. That’s the upbringing that was surrounding me with my family. It was a lot of elevated thinkers. They’d give me gems and these books from authors Deepak Chopra, Sadhguru, bell hooks, and others that I eventually read. If it wasn’t for them lessons and methods that I applied to my life, I fasho wouldn’t be here today, period.
— Big Sean

Following an 2022 appearance on Jay Shetty’s podcast, ‘On Purpose With Jay Shetty’, Sean credited the host as the person who pushed him towards writing the book.

He was like, ‘Bro you gotta write a book. It’s a lot of people that you come from where you come from that don’t know how to get from point A to point B [and] look like you. They know they’re meant for more, just don’t know where to start.’ So, I wrote my first book.
— Big Sean

The ‘I Decided’ rapper concluded with…

I took all the lessons I learned, all the philosophies mixed with real-life experiences and condensed what works for me into these five strategies that really will teach you what success mean to you and show you what your purpose is if you don’t already know and show you how to find inner peace through all the turbulence of life.
— Big Sean

The book is set to be released this fall on October 8th. E-book and audiobook versions will be available upon release. Sean’s next album is also set to drop later this year and it’ll be his first since 2020’s Detroit 2.

2024 has been an eventful year for ‘Sean Don’. His current single “Precision” has eclipsed over 3 million Spotify streams and he also recently performed on one of the most recognizable stages in music today, teaming up with NPR for a special Tiny Desk performance.

Long Beach, California - Long Beach rapper Westside Webb is set to shake up the hip-hop scene once again with the release of his highly anticipated album, Player Games, Pt. 3. This marks the third installment in the acclaimed "Player Games" series, following the success of the first two albums.

“Part 1 and part 2 I was still finding myself as an artist, still finding my flows, and getting confident behind the mic. Part 3, I really indulged in myself and found myself as an artist. Found my flows and certain topics I wanted to get at, and catching different cadences and pockets. That was the difference on that fasho” said Westside Webb.

The album features 10 tracks that you vibe to all the way through. One of the hottest tracks on the album is “Champagne & Good Vibes” featuring K2icyy! This is the type of song you have to play in the car with the speakers blasting. “Champagne & Good Vibes” a real feel good track talking about wealth and abundance. Another must listen to track is "Like Me”.

“Like me is crazy. Like me is one of my favorite tracks though because, I didn’t like it at first. I had it on another beat and I wasn’t feeling it…at all. I actually wasn’t even gonna put that song on the project. And my manager, he came to the crib and I played it for him, he was like ‘nah you gotta put this on. The people gone feel this.’ So I took his advice and listened to it. My homie Lonzo sent me another beat, and I started rapping the lyrics to Like Me on the beat and it fit perfectly.” said Westside Webb.

Westside Webb - Player Games 3

Player Games, Pt. 3 features a dope lineup of collaborations, including tracks with K2icyy, Jeaux, Polyester the Saint, Courtney Bell. With each artist bringing their unique style and flavor to the table, the album is exactly what fans need.

Westside Webb wanted to make sure that he put out songs on this project from the fans perspective, so that when they’re singing the songs, they can visualize themselves. “I just want the fans to know just keep pushing, keep striving for greatness. Keep doing better in whatever you doing” said Westside Webb.

While many fans of the Snowman may mainly know of his immaculate work in the recording studio, the Atlanta native does have a new project in the works but it's not an album. Jeezy has been confirmed as the executive producer of the upcoming documentary Hip-Hop And The White House. The doc is set to explore the relationship between one of the most powerful cultural movements of the past 50 years and the most influential person on the planet, the President of the United States.

Hip Hop and The White House is the first of many to come from Andscape’s pending non-fiction anthology collection as a part of “&360”’s goal to explore the influence of Black culture on American society.

The documentary is written and directed by Jesse Washington. Washington, who is also credited as executive producer, has been a senior writer with Andscape since its inception as The Undefeated in 2014.

We feel this is the perfect time to discuss how hip-hop has influenced presidential politics, and to ask what we can expect from the culture in this upcoming election season. &360 provides an incredible opportunity to explore and illuminate important stories that have never been fully told. I’m looking forward to passing the &360 baton to the next storyteller and seeing new visions come to life.
— Jesse Washington

Hip Hop and The White House is the first of many to come from Andscape’s pending non-fiction anthology collection and is based on the work and research by their team of journalists.

“Mr. 17.5” is not only working behind the scenes on this project but is also narrating the documentary. The doc begins with Jeezy taking the audience on a journey that begins in the 1970’s and revolves around the political landscape that created conditions of oppression and neglect that ultimately created Hip-Hop, while continuing to chronicle the evolution of Hip-Hop culture.

Interviews and commentary are featured from a range of musical talent that includes Common, YG, KRS-One, Roxanne Shante, Bun B, Farai Chideya, Curren$y, Dave “Davey D” Cook, Grandmaster Caz, Waka Flocka Flame, and more.

Hip-Hop And The White House is set to debut this spring on April 22nd, with all documentaries in the anthology being featured on their streaming platform upon release.

On Friday, January 19th, 2024, the streets of downtown LA filled with traffic as Kevin Gates made his way to Savanna Rooftop for his listening party for his new album titled The Ceremony. The anticipation for a new project was undeniable since the 2 Phones rapper has not dropped an album since Khaza in 2022. On the red carpet, his friends, family, and fans shared their excitement and gratitude for Kevin as he continues to share his mental, physical, and spiritual journey with us in The Ceremony. Celebrity sightings included Domani Harris, Tay Savage, KaMillion, Fredo Bangz, Drieka Gates, and more.

Recap from Kevin Gates listening party for his upcoming album ‘The Ceremony’

As the carpet ended, guests headed up to the rooftop where the vibes began. Upon entry, the gold decorations and large balloon arches gave luxurious vibes, and the small bites kept us full and ready for the open bar. The cocktail options ranged from tequila, rum, and vodka with names from songs from the album like Healing, The Ceremony, and Yonce Freestyle. Now, this wasn’t the only open bar at this party; there was also a cannabis bar for the flower connoisseurs where joint rollers rolled a strain of your choice right in front of you. Not only that, there were go-go dancers on rings and breathing fire. Can you say lit, literally?

After Gates got comfortable in his VIP section and greeted his family, he blessed the stage and performed a few of the tracks from The Ceremony to start the listening party. From what I heard, all I can say is, do not sleep on this album! He gave an ode to Plies and T-Pain’s ‘Shawty’ in his smooth track ‘Lil Yea’. He also mixed the 99 and the 2000s with the new wave of rap in Yonce Freestyle featuring BG and Sexxy Redd, which are the only features on this album. The Ceremony takes listeners on a ride with Kevin Gates as he shares his journey from 2022 to 2024 over beats and with bars. If you’ve been craving a project with no skips, then you need to download The Ceremony right now, available on all streaming platforms.

N.W.A. To Receive The Lifetime Achievement Award At 2024 Grammys

By: Joshua Martin

In light of the rap group’s monumental impact on music and culture, N.W.A. is being honored at the 2024 Grammys with this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award. According to the Recording Academy, the Lifetime Achievement Award is “presented by vote of the Recording Academy’s National Trustees to performers who, during their lifetimes, have made creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording.”

Originally from Compton, California, N.W.A. mainly consists of Eazy-E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, MC Ren, and DJ Yella. Armed with explicit and often controversial lyrics about societal issues that remain prevalent in the inner cities of America till this day, their authenticity and unapologetic approach gained them critical success and a devout following.

“The World’s Most Dangerous rap group” will be among other recipients of the prestigious accolade, which will be presented on February 3rd at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles. Other notable honorees in this year’s class include the Empress of Soul Gladys Knight, the late great Disco songstress Donna Summer and gospel group, The Clark Sisters.

Chicago rap star Lil Durk is giving back in a major way to two Chicago students in a new partnership with Howard University, Amazon, and his non-profit organization, Neighborhood Heroes Foundation.

According to Billboard, Durk has launched the Durk Banks Scholarship alongside Amazon Music.

I’m the voice; this the part they don’t show, I appreciate all the kids who struggling to finish school and needed this blessing ……. #almosthealed @amazonmusic @howard1867 @billboard @rotation
— Lil Durk

The scholarship will benefit two incoming freshman as they will receive $50,000 towards their tuition at Howard University. Durk is looking to make a change in his community that is bigger than rap and this scholarship fund is a step forward in changing some deserving students lives in Chicago.

“Change the narrative,” Lil Durk said to Variety. “It’s stuff we never got a chance to do or somebody never did for us. A lot of people don’t do it as far as the music era that we’re in. In my age range, it’s more toward, ‘Let’s go feed them turkeys, let’s go feed them meals.’ My team came together where we turned it up a notch. I wanted to come up with something that was different and impactful.”

Alongside the $50,000 scholarship fund, Durk also donated $250,000 to help Chicago students eligible for Howard’s Graduation Retention Access to Continued Excellence (GRACE) Grant. GRACE is a program that assists students with staying on course to graduation by offering financial assistance.

“For me to boost them up and get them to the next level, it was like a no-brainer,” he stated. “And this scholarship was a super-no-brainer for me. For me and my team, having my own scholarship is like a Grammy.”

Last weekend, Lil Durk headlined Howard University’s Springfest 2023 where he also spent $100,000 on a trip for 20 high school students when they visited the University.

Lil Durk is spreading some love to Chicago’s youth by pushing them to excel in school and stay out the streets. This is major with hopefully more to come from other entertainers.

Torrence “Boosie” Hatch was arrested in 2008 after having possession of marijuana and a firearm in his car. After pleading guilty to the drug charges, Boosie was sentenced to two years in prison, which led to his late summer 2010 first degree murder charge.

Boosie wants to be the next rapper granted a pardon from the government. This past weekend, Meek Mell received a pardon from the governor of Pennsylvania. Meeek received many kind words from social media and from Boosie, who also took to Twitter to ask Louisiana to free him from his record.

Before the prison time, Boosie was a rising underground artist who was on the verge of having real mainstream success. “Wipe Me Down” was and still is a smash hit for the culture. He talked with the Big Facts Podcast about his upbringings in his early life before he made a name in the rap game.

I would’ve done it totally different if I could take it back, ’cause I ain’t wanna go to jail, man.

Robert “Meek Mill” Williams was found guilty of drug and weapons charges in 2008, similar to Boosie. Meek was sentenced up to two years in prison, but he only served eight months and did 10 years of probation. Since then, Meek has been fighting a legal battle with the Philadelphia court system. In 2017, he was arrested and sentenced to four years in state prison for violating probation.

Meek received his aforementioned pardon from Pennsylvania Governor, Tom Wolf on January 12. He posted the signed certificate of him being free from his criminal record. Meek promises to do good things for his community, to help with schools and to help low income students get scholarships for the 2023-2024 calendar school year. He will be partnering with Kevin Hart and Fanatics CEO, Michael Rubin, to help the community in Philadelphia.

SZA Makes History as 'SOS' Sits at No. 1 For a Month

SZA Makes History as her album, SOS, sits On The Throne at No. 1 For a Month. The R&B singer also has the No.1 single globally! We discuss it here!

SZA

By: Adonis Armstrong

SZA is making history with her latest album, SOS. For the fourth consecutive week, it holds the crown atop of the Billboard 200 thanks to the 125,000 album-equivalent units sold in the U.S. in the week ending January 5th.

4 weeks at number one is INSANE. Thank you God and thank you everyone for riding for me !!!
— SZA

According to Billboard, of the album-equivalent units earned; 121,500 were streaming-equivalent, totaling 162.42 million on-demand official streams, which also dropped four percent from the past week. Her album sales sit at 3,000, which may be a 289 percent increase and her track-equivalent album sales are at 500, which is a seven percent increase.

SOS sales shot up tremendously on January 5th after she dropped two new digital versions of the album solely on her Top Dawg Entertainment online store. The digital projects included two new bonus tracks: “PSA” and a solo version of the album’s “Open Arms.” Each track is available for $4.99, while one of the digitals comes with an alternative cover art.

SZA’s SOS is the first R&B album by a woman to achieve this feat since the great, Janet Jackson’s janet., which held the crown for its first six weeks from June 5th to July 10th in 1993. But, being at the top doesn’t come easy or without rumors. SOS had some tough competition with Taylor Swift’s song, “Midnights”, which is currently number 2 on the Billboard charts. SZA took some time to address rumors swirling on artists feuding on her twitter.

The R&B singer is definitely having herself a wonderful month from the dedication SZA put into the album. She revealed on Twitter that her lead single, “Kill Bill” is number 1 on the Billboards Global 200.
