Hip hop icon Missy Elliott has been selected for induction into the 2023 class of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The announcement was made today (May 3), marking a historic moment. This was also her first year of eligibility which is a well deserved honor. As the first woman in hip hop to receive this honor, she has paved the way for future generations of women in the genre, showing that it is possible to break through and succeed in an industry that has traditionally been dominated by men. Alongside Missy Elliott, a total of 13 other influential icons have been included in this year's annual recognition.

For over three decades, Missy Elliott has been a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. She first rose to fame in the mid-1990s as a songwriter and producer for artists like Aaliyah, before launching her own solo career with the release of her debut album Supa Dupa Fly in 1997. Her unique blend of rap, R&B, and electronic music quickly made her a standout in the industry, and her music videos, which were often directed by her longtime collaborator Dave Meyers, pushed the boundaries of what was possible in terms of visuals and choreography.

Elliott's impact on hip hop and popular music as a whole is immeasurable. She has won numerous awards, including four Grammy Awards, and has sold over 30 million records worldwide. She has also been recognized for her songwriting and production talents, having penned hits for major artists like Beyoncé, Whitney Houston, and Ciara.

As we celebrate Missy Elliott's induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, we are reminded of the immense talent and creativity that she has brought to the music industry. Her music and her legacy will continue to inspire and influence generations to come, and she will always be remembered as a true pioneer and icon in hip hop.

The venue for the 38th Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony has been confirmed as Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY, and the event is scheduled to take place on Friday, Nov. 3, 2023. Information about ticket sales will be provided at a later time.

Queen Latifah the pioneering female rapper, actress, and producer, has made history once again becoming the first female rapper to be inducted into the Library of Congress. The Library of Congress is the world's largest library and serves as the research arm of the U.S. Congress. It is responsible for preserving and providing access to cultural heritage materials and is considered the nation's oldest cultural institution.

Latifah was known for her socially conscious lyrics and empowering messages that spoke to women and minorities. She was a trailblazer in the male-dominated rap industry and paved the way for female rappers to come. Her debut album, All Hail the Queen, released in 1989, was a critical and commercial success earning her a Grammy nomination.

The induction of Queen Latifah into the Library of Congress is a significant milestone for female rappers and hip-hop culture. It recognizes the significance of hip-hop as a culture and the impact it has had on America. It also acknowledges the contributions of women in the genre and the need for greater diversity and consideration in culture.

She join iconic recordings added last year like her native tongue companions A Tribe Called Quest’s The Low-End Theory, Wu-Tang Clan’s Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), and Alicia Keys Songs in A Minor.

Queen Latifah's induction is a well deserved honor and a testament to her persevering legacy. She has inspired generations of women and minorities to speak their truth and make their stamp in the world. Her music and message continue to resonate with fans around the world, and her impact on the hip-hop community and American culture as a entirety cannot be exaggerated.

Bryson Tiller is gearing up for a upcoming tour this spring after a five year drought. The tour will start in May 4, in San Diego, California and will feature some major cities throughout America, including Detroit, Philadelphia, Houston, New Orleans, and Miami. It’s simple, we back! Taking a trip to the past and giving y’all a glimpse of the future. 5 whole years without touring, Time really does fly… See y’all soon!
— Bryson Tiller

Tiller’s tour poster draws influence from the hit sci-fi classic movie Back to the Future, which was released in 1985.

It’s been five years since Bryson last toured with NAV, “Never Sleep Tour” and I believe this two month tour will draw nice crowds. Bryson has also been working on new music, which will be coming after his 2021 album, A Different Christmas, which earned a spot on the Billboard 200.

Tickets will be made available on March 22 with Live Nation presales. The Back and I’m Better Tour will go on sale to the general public on Friday, March 24, at 10 AM local time on ticketmaster.com.

Since Tiller is back and better it’s only right I end it with his classic single, “Don’t”. Listen below!

Eric Holder Jr., the man who was convicted for murdering rapper Nipsey Hussle back in 2019 in front of his Marathon clothing store, was sentenced to 60 years to life in prison.

Holder received 25 years to life on the murder charge, another 25 years to life since a gun was used and an additional 10 years for shooting two other men on that same day, according to the Los Angeles Times

Nipsey Hussle

Ermias Asghedom, Hussle, was gunned down by Holder after a brief conversation between the two. Holder returned minutes later and began opening fire in the parking lot killing Hussle and wounding two other men.

According to reports, the two belonged to the same gang - the Rollin 60s of the Crips, however Nipsey in the later years of his life worked to stop gang violence and broker peace between rival gangs.

“Neighborhood Nip”, as he was affectionately called, often traveled the area without security despite his celebrity status to interact with patrons and fans.

The rapper’s murder at the age of 33 sent shockwaves throughout the hip hop community and the city of Los Angeles. The marathon clothing store where he was killed became a memorial where thousands came from across the world to pay their respects.

The Marathon Clothing Store

The agony still resonates deep within the L.A. community three years after the Grammy Nominated winners death. Herman “Cowboy” Douglas, a friend, expressed those sentiments in this statement.

Nipsey was my friend, he was like a son, he was like a dad. Our community right now, we lost everything, everything we worked for. One man’s mistake, one man’s action, messed up a whole community.
— Herman "Cowboy" Douglas

Since his death, Hussle’s metaphor for overcoming the struggles of life The Marathon Continues can be seen posted on social media as tributes to the fallen rapper.

Holder’s sentencing closes an ugly chapter in what seems to be a trend in today’s society of senseless gun violence.

In 2022, Hussle was honored by receiving his star on the Hollywood Walk of fame cementing his status as a hometown hero.

His girlfriend Lauren London addressed the crowd honoring Hussle.

Lauren London

Lauren London speaking at Nipsey Hussle Walk of Fame ceremony

I think I speak for the entire city of LA when I say that we’ve always known that Hussle was destined for greatness. Nip would’ve been honored by this moment. So whenever you’re in the City of Angels, and you see this star, I hope that it encourages you to break away from whatever might be holding you back, and for you to run your marathon until God says that it’s finished.
— Lauren London

With that being said… #TheMarathonContinues 🏁🏁

20 Nominations, 0 Wins: Why Hasn't Snoop Dogg Won A Grammy?

20 times Snoop Dogg has been nominated for a Grammy and never won. What’s the holdup? We discuss it here!

Rappers have had beef with the Grammy Awards dating back to 1989 when Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff decided to boycott the event after the awards show decided not to televise the rap category. It’s 2023, and Hip Hop royalty is still at odds with the Grammys.

It’s safe to say Snoop Dogg is easily one of the most accomplished hip hop artists alive, but even with that being said, Snoop has yet to win a grammy. 20 times the hip hop legend has been nominated for the prestigious award and zero times has he been the recipient. That’s crazy.

It has to open up the question; are the Grammy’s biased towards certain winners? Snoop of all people has every right to feel the way he does with his work being able to speak for itself. 20 nominations and no wins is pretty wild and anyone in that position would be upset.

Although any artist would love to take home the Grammy honor, it’s not the end all to be all for determining how successful one’s career was. Snoop was stamped off his Doggystyle alone. Will we ever see Snoop get a Grammy? Comment what you think below?

Black Music icons took center stage at the annual Recording Academy Honors hosted by the Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective in celebration of this year’s Grammy Awards at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles. Spearheaded by CEO Harvey Mason Jr, The Black Music Collective was formed in 2020 by prominent industry leaders to promote Black representation and inclusion.

Hip Hop legend Lil Wayne took home the Recording Academy’s Global Impact Award, which was affectionately renamed the ‘Dr. Dre Impact Global Award’ in honor of the West Coast music legend.

During his acceptance speech, Wayne reflected on his career in the music industry and the adversity he faced becoming a success hailing from Louisiana.

I don’t get honored. Where I’m from, New Orleans, you’re not supposed to do this.
— Lil Wayne

Preceded by emotional video tributes by Drake and the new Colorado head football coach Deion Sanders, the night of celebrations continued for Wayne as his peers, 2Chainz and Tyga, performed some of Wayne’s greatest hits on a night where the past, present and future of Black music were being honored.

Followed by a lively performance by West Coast legend Snoop Dogg, Ty Dolla Sign, and Kurupt. During his speech, Dr Dre. spoke about his hip hop origins and how music changed his life.

The birth of hip-hop completely changed the course of my life. Just imagine where a lot of Black men, including myself, would be without hip-hop. I was in junior high school when I had ever heard hip-hop for the first time. I heard mixing and scratching, I couldn’t get enough of that sound. And once I got my hands on the turntables, I knew I had found my wings and I was determined to know how to fly.
— Dr. Dre

Before being introduced by longtime manager Mona Scott-Young and Ciara, Elliott was praised by super producer Timbaland and fellow singer, rapper Lizzo with heartfelt video tributes. Emotionally herself, Missy exclaimed how important this award means to her.

People don’t understand that this is a Global Impact Award. It’s not just neighborhood, it’s global. So it hits different when you stand up here, knowing that when you get something like this, you gotta know that you’ve been through a lot.
— Missy Elliott

She also gave a powerful tribute to fellow winner, Epic Records CEO Sylvia Rhone. Later, Swiss Beatz commanded a packed house to give “Sylvia Rhone the Great” a standing ovation before presenting her with the Global Impact award.

It’s been a lot of years for me in hip-hop, and it’s even more special to me amongst this elite group of artists with Dr. Dre, Missy Elliott, Lil Wayne, each of whom I’ve had the privilege of working with throughout my career.
— Sylvia Rhone

Additional musical acts included Chloe Bailey, Busta Rhymes, and Tweet.

This year has been an amazing year for many hip hop artists from nomination to winning awards. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced 14 nominees for this year's class including some hip hop heavyweights Missy Elliott and A Tribe Called Quest. The two are among hip hop royalty when it comes to creation and paving their own lanes in the industry.

Missy Elliott, the iconic rapper and producer, has been nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame class of 2023. This is a major milestone in her career and a testament to her impact on the music industry.

Missy is highly regarded as one of the pioneers of hip hop and R&B from her artistic creativity style. Her innovative style that she brought to the game of hip hop was crazy. Her debut album Supa Dupa Fly was released in 1997 which I believe is a certified CLASSIC! The production of the album is A1 on how she blends hip hop, R&B, and funk music all together, which. is still heavily inspired today. Throughout her career, Missy has released six studio albums and has collaborated with numerous artists, including Aaliyah, Timbaland, Ginuwine.

Her impact on music extends far beyond her own discography, but her innovative music videos, which often feature her as the main character and creative director, have been praised for their creativity and impact on the music video industry. I can remember when I was a kid watching her videos when I was younger thinking she had some of the dopest music videos in the game.

A Tribe Called Quest, pioneers in their own right are by far one of the most influential hip-hop groups of all time, has just been nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. This news has been met with widespread excitement and joy from fans and music lovers.

A Tribe Called Quest

ATCQ are known for their unique approach to hip hop such as their native tongues style and conscious lyrics. The groups first three albums People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm, The Low End Theory, and Midnight Marauders are stamped as hip hop history. The group has left an indelible mark on the music industry and has inspired countless artists over the years.

The Afrocentric style in their music was amazing and continues to last the test of time in hip hop history. The style is evident in their music and lyrics which often focuses on themes of African and African American culture, history, and consciousness. Even the fashion choices they incorporated from African fashion helped them shape and define a huge part of the hip hop genre.

Boosie Badazz Congratulates Meek Mill For His Recent Pardon

Boosie Badazz asks for a pardon from Louisiana's governor after receiving news about Meek Mill's recent pardon. We discuss it here!

Torrence “Boosie” Hatch was arrested in 2008 after having possession of marijuana and a firearm in his car. After pleading guilty to the drug charges, Boosie was sentenced to two years in prison, which led to his late summer 2010 first degree murder charge.

Boosie wants to be the next rapper granted a pardon from the government. This past weekend, Meek Mell received a pardon from the governor of Pennsylvania. Meeek received many kind words from social media and from Boosie, who also took to Twitter to ask Louisiana to free him from his record.

Before the prison time, Boosie was a rising underground artist who was on the verge of having real mainstream success. “Wipe Me Down” was and still is a smash hit for the culture. He talked with the Big Facts Podcast about his upbringings in his early life before he made a name in the rap game.

I would’ve done it totally different if I could take it back, ’cause I ain’t wanna go to jail, man.

Robert “Meek Mill” Williams was found guilty of drug and weapons charges in 2008, similar to Boosie. Meek was sentenced up to two years in prison, but he only served eight months and did 10 years of probation. Since then, Meek has been fighting a legal battle with the Philadelphia court system. In 2017, he was arrested and sentenced to four years in state prison for violating probation.

Meek received his aforementioned pardon from Pennsylvania Governor, Tom Wolf on January 12. He posted the signed certificate of him being free from his criminal record. Meek promises to do good things for his community, to help with schools and to help low income students get scholarships for the 2023-2024 calendar school year. He will be partnering with Kevin Hart and Fanatics CEO, Michael Rubin, to help the community in Philadelphia.

Who is the Greatest Rapper of this Generation?

Who is the Greatest Rapper of this Generation? Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Drake have to be at the top, right? We discuss it here!

Greatest Rapper of this Generation

By: Adonis Armstrong

If you had a poll to see who’s was the greatest rapper of this generation who would you vote for? The top of your list may look like this Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, or Drake? Some lists may look different when it comes to the topic. I say it depends on the person that is getting asked because everyone has their own opinion and catergories such as backpack, conscious, trap, drill rap, and even melodic rap .

Each Hip Hop catergory has a different vibe and element to it. Although you have some rappers that can step into any of the catergories and do well in each. The New York Times put a claim to Kung Fu Kenny aka Kendrick Lamar as this generations greatest rapper. I can agree too as Kendrick has dropped some classic albums for the culture such as good kid, m.A.A.D city, To Pimp a Butterfly, DAMN, and of course Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. K. Dot has definitely put in some work to get such high praise.

On another hand you have J. Cole. The North Carolina native should be put in the discussion as well. He has done a lot for the culture since being heard on a mainstream level. Some of his most classic albums are Born Sinner, 2014 Forest Hills Drive, 4 Your Eyez Only, and The Off-Season. These alone put him in any type of discussion for the title for the generation.

Let’s get to one of the most loved and hated artists in the game, Drake. He has had the game on lock since 2009 when he dropped his classic mixtape, So Far Gone. Drake is a little different from the top too but hate it or love, it he has put in work to be at the top. Take Care, Nothing Was the Same, If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, and Views are top notch albums from the 6 God from Toronto.

Honorable Mentions - Other rappers who should have a seat at the table in this discussion.

Honorable Mention Rapper of Generation

BIG K.R.I.T.

The Mississippi rapper has great quality work and is a house hold name in the game. He does majority of his own production such as J. Cole. K.R.I.T. also received high praise from Wiz Khalfa, stating he thinks Krizzle should win a grammy soon. Good albums to go listen to are Cadillactica, 4eva is a Mighty Long Time, K.R.I.T. IZ HERE, and Digital Roses Don’t Die.

Cyhi The Prynce

The Atlanta based rapper is very witty with the pen and what I mentioned earlier, can do all catergories of Hip Hop. Look no further than the Prynce. Although he only has one studio album, No Dope On Sundays, he has writing credits from major artists such Kanye West, Travis Scott, and more.

nba YoungBoy

The Louisiana rapper will probably have you scratching your head but he has the streets on lock for this generation. He has a unique sound that people in the south can relate to. His fanbase is the same or even bigger than some of the artist above. I can’t really say an album because YoungBoy puts out music literally every quarter of the year.

Lil Baby

This Atlanta rapper is becoming a phenom and has the hits to prove he can be at the table this generation. He had a special on Prime called Untrapped: The Story of Lil Baby that followed a little part of his life in the music industry. Baby has became a voice especially when he dropped The Bigger Picture during covid, which had some meaning to it for the culture.

Yes there is more that can be at the table for the discussion, but these are a few artists I think are deserving for a shot at the title for this generation.

Jae Breeze is set to release his new project Sincerely, Breeze on January 6, 2023. Jae has a sound that reminds you of Mr. OVO himself, Drake, a talent that needs to be heard for sure.

“Sincerely, Breeze will be coming your way in 2023. I want to thank everyone who had a hand in making this album. Long time coming, but we’re back.” - Jae Breeze

Jae Breeze Sincerely, Breeze tracklist

Sincerely, Breeze features 8 tracks with great features from Alvaro Amour, Niko Noir, TechSoLo, and Josh Cozy. There is no misses on this project as it will have you on a rollercoaster of feelings to express yourself to a certain someone. Jae had some things to get off his chest and he put it all into the album for everyone to hear and relate to. It’s the perfect tape for a good vibe heading into the near year. Our personal favorites are “Insecure” and “Working Together”.

“This project is special to me and I hope you receive the same feel once you press play. This is my sincere thank you for all the support anyone has ever given me since I started music back in 2015.”

Jae is definitely one artist that is going to keep rising and one to keep an eye on. The project epitomizes Hip-Hop with great samples with a hint of R and B sound.

“Once one door closes, another one opens.” I’ll leave you with that. Sincerely, Breeze.”

Compton artist 1TakeOcho dropped the perfect summer time album, Undeniable 2! The 15 track album includes some dope features from 1TakeJay, Kenai, Phats, 1TakeTeezy, 1TakeQuan, Royce The Choice, and Griff Tyler. With so many dope tracks on the album, it’s hard to choose a favorite but “Ducked Off” featuring Phats is definitely a track that’s getting played on repeat.

His last project Ocho III came less than a year ago and 1TakeOcho is already back with some more heat.

“I feel like I locked in a little bit more on this project than I did on my previous projects. Every beat on here are beats that were produced specifically for me. I didn’t get any YouTube beats for this project. So overall, the sound is exclusively for me. I was in the studio more than I’ve ever been while working on this project too. Previously I’d just make songs as I go and then later down the line I’d put together a project with whatever I songs I had. During this process I was making songs specifically for Undeniable 2.”

1TakeOcho continues to prove why he is one of the hottest rising artists coming out of the West Coast right now. This album was extremely personal for 1TakeOcho as he dedicated this album to his father, as he recently passed away. In his song “For My Pops”, he pays homage to his father.

“This project is fully dedicated to my dad. I lost him last year on August 5th due to covid. On the album cover, I’m wearing his Rare Breed motorcycle club letterman jacket and behind me is his lowrider that he passed down to me. This whole project is dedicated to and inspired by him.”

1TakeOcho Talks The Release Of His Latest Album "Undeniable II"

This album features a range of versatility in songs from turn up music, to R&B you can kick back and vibe to.

“It’s hard to pick just 1 favorite song. But my top 3 are For My Pops (Big Ratt), First Impression, and Calm Collective. But I love all of them.”

Throughout the pandemic, has been a way to keep people motivated and inspired and 1TakeOcho approached this album with the goal to urge people to keep going, no matter what. In his song “Sound Good”, he reiterates “The only advice that I can give is be the best you.”

“Whatever you’re going through in life just keep pushing. You never know how close you are to accomplishing what you want to accomplish. Might sound cliche but just don’t quit.”

From his first project Ocho til now, every project has shown grown and consistency. 1TakeOcho is building a solid catalogue of projects, with Undeniable II leading the way.

“To all my supporters and people following me and my journey, make sure y’all check on the ones closest to you and take care of your mental health. There’s a lot of things that we overlook in this world and that we don’t take serious enough until it’s too late. Get on it now before it’s too late.”

— 1TakeOcho

By: Omar Cook

Compton artist 1TakeOcho dropped his new EP titled Ocho III. 1TakeOcho has been consistently dropping heat since his first project Ocho.

“The name of the project started when I dropped the first Ocho EP. I didn’t know what else to call it so I kept it simple and used my name. I wanted to drop this EP because it’s been almost 9 months since my last project dropped and in between that I dropped one single which was “Love” ft. my guys Griff Tyler and Xian Bell. It was time for me to drop some more content, build my catalog for people, and get heard some more. And also it’s the summer!”

1TakeOcho has set a high standard for himself and his fans by releasing top quality music with consistency. You can hear the growth from project to project as he pours his real life into the lyrics.

“This particular EP shows a lot of growth in my music as far as the quality of the music as well as the videos I’ll be putting out for it. The cover art is me with my college degree, my graduation cap, a football, and a mic which symbolizes my journey in life. I recently just finished school while working a job and pursuing my music career. I just want to motivate people and let them know that anything is possible and forget all the excuses. As long as you put the work in, stay dedicated, passionate, and consistent, everything will fall in place for you.”

1TakeOcho - Different ft. Kalan.FrFr (Official Music Video)

The project features 8 hot tracks with some dope features including 1TakeJay, Kalan.FrFr, Tyler J., 1TakeQuan, Griff Tyler, and Xian Bell! This is a project that has no skips as each track has it’s own feel from upbeat tracks like “Homebody” to a more mellow track like “Right By You”. Our personal favorite: “Homebody”, a song you’ll have on repeat!

“A must listen to track in my opinion is all of them lol my favorite track on there changes all the time. One day I’m loving “Homebody” more than anything. The next day I’m loving “Right by you” more. Another day “Walk Through” becomes my favorite.”

1TakeOcho - Homebody ft. 1TakeJay (Official Music Video)

1TakeOcho has already dropped 3 videos to accompany his EP for his tracks “Homebody”, “Different”, and “Love”.

“The quality of music and the visuals for it is what separates it from my previous stuff. Although my previous project “Undeniable” had good quality, the goal is to outwork yesterday. Or in other words outwork yourself and your previous work. I feel like that’s what I’m doing.”

1TakeOcho already has plans to continue to release new music and visuals and is establishing himself as one of the top rising artists on the West Coast. With a solid mix of R and B and rap, this project has a track for just about any mood.

“Hopefully y’all will be seeing my name and face more often. I feel like I’m going in the right direction by putting out good content and staying consistent with it.”

Texas singer, Lauryn Harris, talks the release of her latest mixtape Touch N Go! The project is a complete Neo-Soul vibe and exactly what R and B needs right now! Check it out here!

I’m so excited for more people to get to experience this project and I hope they love it. More music in the future!
— Lauryn Harris

By: Omar Cook

It’s been 3 years since Texas singer Lauryn Harris released her debut project, Inside My Head, but the release of her latest project was well worth the wait! Lauryn recently dropped a new mixtape titled Touch N Go, and each track is a vibe! Lauryn has a sound that reminds you of the Neo-soul legend, Erykah Badu, an underrated talent for sure.

“I came up with the name ‘TOUCH N GO’ because I think that’s been the theme of my life for the last few years. Nothing lasts forever so you take in what you’ve learned from people, places, etc. and then move on to what’s next. Change is inevitable so you have to figure out how to adapt. I’m still true to myself in this project but I allowed myself to experiment with different sounds and challenge myself as a songwriter.”

From her previous project til now, you can definitely hear the growth and maturity with each track. The lyrics are relatable especially to young millennials who are going through everyday trials and tribulations in their life.

“I want people to know that there is power in vulnerability. All of these songs have played out in my real life and I wanted to show that you’re not alone. Whether that be new beginnings, getting your heartbroken, or being unsure of what your purpose is. We forget that we’re all human and don’t have to struggle in solitude.”

Touch N Go features 7 tracks with great features from Chief Aleel, Louie Koston, and Tobacco Ryan. There is not a single miss on this project as it will have you replaying each song over and over. The perfect tape for a late night drive or a road trip. Our personal favorite is “Hardheaded”.

“I think ‘Hardheaded’ is a must listen. This song is about being with someone and sometimes you’ve outgrown one another. We fight so hard to “get that old thing back” or “relight the flame” when really it’s time to let go. It’s a beautiful song and I know a lot of people can relate. ‘SKURVY’. This song is the most out of my comfort zone but I realized how much I like working on rap/hip-hop beats. It’s just a fun song about driving late at night in the city to see that special someone. My collaborators, Louie Koston & Chief Aleel were amazing and really brought the song to life.”

Lauryn Harris Talks The Release Of Her Latest Mixtape "Touch N Go"

Lauryn is definitely on the rise as an artist and with each song and project released, it becomes evidently clear that her talent needs to be shared with the world. This project embodies a true R and B sound.

“I think ‘TOUCH N GO’ really shows my growth. I’ve always loved music but this was the first time that I really fell in love with the process and took my time. I will always love my debut ‘Inside My Head’ but I hadn’t truly unlocked all of my creativity. I’m only going get better with each project and see what else I can bring to the table.”

Lauryn already has plans for future with an expectation to bring visuals to her tracks and live performances. Much needed and anticipated for an artist with a dope Neo-Soul sound.

“I’m going to work on getting some performances in the future and some visuals for this project. Music videos are a MUST this time around. 6. It’s only up from here. I’m so excited for more people to get to experience this project and I hope they love it. More music in the future!”

Snoh Aalegra and G Herbo With New July Albums Dropping

By: Cory Utsey

June was an amazing month for music. From albums alone, we got an amazing amount of range from Tyler, the Creator’s “CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST”, H.E.R’s “Back Of My Mind”, Doja Cat’s “Planet Her” and even Justine Skye’s “Space & Time”. In regards to singles, Megan Thee Stallion’s “Thot Sh*t” and Jazmine Sullivan’s “Tragic” allowed us to go from screaming “We Outside!” to reflecting on time that needs to be reclaimed.

With all of this in mind, June’s releases have quite the competition. However, July started off with “Wasting Time”, a collaboration between Brent Faiyaz and Drake that was produced by The Neptunes, so it already seems as though this month will have some great contenders.

Here are five album releases to look out for this July.

G Herbo, “25” - July 2

G Herbo, “25”

Kicking off the first “New Music Friday” of the month is G Herbo with the release of his LP “25”. Herbo told Complex that the project, pronounced as “Two Five”, celebrates both his age and the significance of the resultant of “2+5”; he states that seven signifies “the guardian”. “25” also pays homage to the people in his life who did not make it to 25, such as his brother and a close friend. The 19-track project, which features artists such as Gunna, 21 Savage and Polo G, comes over a year after “PTSD”.

Amorphous, “Things Take Shape” - July 7

Amorphous, “Things Take Shape”

Amorphous, a DJ and producer known on social media for creating amazing mash-ups, will be releasing his debut EP on July 7 called “Things Take Shape”. He first went viral for his mash-up of Rihanna’s “Kiss It Better” and Luther Vandross’s “Never Too Much” in late 2020. The accolades from this mix landed him a call from Fat Joe, who vied to use the mix for a song. The song, called “Sunshine” came out in January and features DJ Khaled. Although the EP is not slated to come out until the seventh, two tracks (“Back Together” featuring Kehlani and “Finally (Cannot Hide It) with Kelly Rowland and Cece Piston) are already out.

Snoh Aalegra, “TEMPORARY HIGHS IN THE VIOLET SKIES” - July 9

North Carolina artist, Josh Cozy, talks the release of his latest album, It’s Prolly Too Late! His last project Black Smilez, was definitely a great EP, but Josh turns it up a notch with this project. You can definitely hear the growth from the last project to this one, and when speaking about what separates this project from his previous, Josh says,

“Maturity. Me, Stepping into who I want to be even more. Investing into the craft. Sound quality, production and overall lyrical content/storytelling. I worked really hard on this one. Had to grind it out! It feels special.”

Josh Cozy

The title itself is relatable to what's been going on in the past year with the pandemic, and people trying to find themselves and recreate themselves despite the circumstances.

“I’ve been in a phase of life where I personally counted myself out just due to all the chaos going on outside in a way. I felt like it’s been self sabotage in a sense. This year 2021... it’s been a great start for me on all levels. I’m finally getting back to myself. So the project ‘It’s prolly too late’ stemmed from that.”

Josh Cozy

Josh Cozy

The project features 10 tracks, and each track is fire. This is a no skips project that you can play in the car and just vibe to. It’s hard to pick a favorite track but our personal favorite is the final track “Of Me”, as Josh finishes off this project with a bang.

“Must listen is definitely ‘Change for you’ and I say that because I believe we’ve all been there before. At some point, we’ve all dealt with the rocky relationship/situationship or whatever you may want to call it.

Favorite track probably is ‘These Feelings’ featuring Jae Breeze. He actually gave me that track and just the overall content up there. Speaking on family and mental dealings. It was a release!”

Josh Cozy, Talks The Release Of His Latest Album, "It’s Prolly Too Late"

Josh Cozy speaks his truth on every track, discussing overcoming relationship issues, and everyday issues. When speaking on the overall message of the project, Josh says,

“Most importantly, on ‘Of Me’ which is the outro of the project, I spoke freely on never casting yourself out of things. While you breathing, still here.... we got the time. It’s never too late to take a shot at things in life. Choose your perspective and navigate best you can.”

Every project Josh Cozy drops speaks about growth and listening to each track, you can definitely see the evolution in his music as well as overall maturity. As far as what we can expect from him in the future:

“Continuing to drop music/visual content all year long! Super excited for these videos from the project that are on the way! I feel they bring it to life even more!”

5 Tracks On Nicki Minaj's "Queen" Album Highlighting Girl Power

It's been nearly three years since Nicki Minaj released her highly anticipated fourth album titled Queen, and looking back, the album not only serves as a modern-day hip-hop feminist manifesto but showcases Minaj reasserting her status as hip-hop royalty. We discuss it here!

5 Tracks On Nicki Minaj's "Queen" Album Highlighting Girl Power

By: Alexis Oatman

It's been nearly three years since Nicki Minaj released her highly anticipated fourth album titled Queen

Following its initial release back in August 2018, many barbs and music critics offered the project mixed reviews, noted the album had flashes of brilliance but mainly was "eclipsed in chaos," said one Fader magazine music critic.

The album comes almost four years after her critically acclaimed work, The Pinkprint

However, looking back, the album not only serves as a modern-day hip-hop feminist manifesto but showcases Minaj reasserting her status as hip-hop royalty.

Minaj defends her crown with blaring beats and infectious samples, all while giving homage to her Trinidadian roots thanks to collaborations with a host of hot producers ranging from Boi-1-da to Mike Will Made It.

Concurrently, the rapper also launched her own radio show on Beats 1, appropriately titled Queen Radio. Minaj used the platform to dispel rumors surrounding her relationship with then-fiancé Kenneth Petty, her very public beef with Remy Ma, and her on-and-off-again beef Cardi B.

Never lacking charisma and attitude, Minaj's slick metaphors and wordplay are still heavily present throughout the 19-track project, featuring only a handful of features, including Eminem, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, and more.

As a black woman in a male-dominated industry, Minaj has had to scrape her way to the top.

Queen showcases Minaj's raw nature through her toughness, menacing lyrics, and soft edges. Whether she's answering to the "bitches” who are her "sons" or dispelling rumors, Minaj takes listeners on an intense ride while she defends her royal status.

Her journey is most visible in five songs on Queen

"Majesty"

Minaj kicked off the record dripping with a menacing swagger as she hoots, "Yo, I got the money and the power now/The G5'll get me out there in an hour now." Minaj made it clear that she worked hard for her spot and has earned everything she has gotten. Appropriately titled, “Majesty” guest singer Labrinth offers Minaj a beautiful yet chilling introduction as her highness during the song's chorus. This track even features the "Rap God” himself, Eminem, as he blasts off into a sneering, lighting quick verse speaking on everything from new hip-hop to sleeping with strangers.

Nicki Minaj - Majesty

"Barbie Dreams"

This hilarious rap attack is an homage to Notorious B.I.G.'s "Just Playing (Dreams)" and his rip on famous R&B singers at the time—except this time, Minaj serves a beat down for the men of the hip hop industry. "Drake worth a hundred milli, always buying me sh*t/But I don't know if the pussy wet or if he's crying and sh*t." The rapper even took a lighthearted jab at her ex-boyfriend, rapper Meek Mill. "Meek still be in my DMs/ I be having to duck him/'I use to pray for times like this' face ass when I f*ck him." The song showcased Minaj's upbeat and fun side, a side we haven't seen lately, barbs remember feeling this kind of energy from Nicki early on during her mixtape days.

Nicki Minaj - Barbie Dreams

"Hard White"

Minaj storms the track calling out her suspected haters once again, noting how she has to "work hard just to get half back." The albeit creeping hop shows Minaj enjoying herself while cementing her legacy as the top woman in rap. "My legacy could never be undone/I'm a prodigy, R.I.P Thun-Thun/Got these bitches shook, they shocked, no stun-gun." Minaj clarifies that she created the blueprint for a lot of female artists who followed her, but doesn’t get her proper credit, and she is right.

Nicki Minaj - Hard White

"Chun Li"

The first official single off the album, "Chun-Li," silenced anyone who thought the pop-crossover artist didn't still have bars. With a blaring saxophone and sporadic gong, Minaj reminded her "sons" that "Ayo, I been on, b*tch, you been corn" and fully embraced her new persona and the notion that some entities were "paintin’ me out to be the bad guy.” The song peaked at No.10 on the Billboard Hot 100, coming after her four-year hiatus working on The Pinkprint album.

Nicki Minaj - Chun-Li

“Good Form”

No Nicki record is complete without a twerk anthem, “Good Form” offers a needed break from the serious tone of the album. The track serves as subtle appreciation for big derrieres and is also accompanied by a bright and colorful visual featuring other popular women in the industry, including “New New” herself Lauren London, the Clermont twins, Instagram influencer Ari, and more. “Who on Barbie D? Who on Barbie D? Everybody (Go!),” Minaj yells, making it know that everyone’s gaze remains fixed on her and what she does next.

DMX Passes At 50: We Owe DMX So Much More

By: Alexis Oatman

We owe DMX so much more.

Today, the Hip Hop icon passed away at the age of 50. Fans and fellow entertainers paid their respects to the legend through social media.

As DMX fought for his life in a New York hospital, huge media outlets continuously provided misinformation and lacked sensitivity with his battle with addiction.

As fans around the world held vigils and pray for the survival of a hip-hop legend, The New York Post decided it would be a good idea to devote an entire story to homes the 50-year-old rapper has lost throughout his lifetime in an article released on Tuesday.

DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, allegedly was at his home in White Plains when he overdosed on drugs, triggering a heart attack that has left him in a "vegetative state" on life support at White Plains Hospital.

Considering how Britney Spears, and now even Jessica Simpson, have received apologies and reassessed their legacies in public, DMX deserves the same respect.

Simmons has had a long and public battle with addiction, with many stints in and out of rehab.

Simmons, 50, a survivor of early childhood abuse, has also battled against mental illness, receiving a bipolar diagnosis early on in his life.

In an interview last year, he disclosed his trouble with addiction began at the ripe age of 14 when a "mentor" had laced a blunt with crack without his knowledge.

Sarah Paynter, a real estate reporter for The Post, is responsible for the article.

Paytner's tone throughout the article screams of privilege and lack of tact when it comes to those suffering from addiction. According to the article, the rapper has lost several properties in New York, New Jersey, and Arizona due to various financial reasons.

"Debts followed him as he moved all over the country, and since the '90s, he has undergone repeated foreclosures, forced sales, and investment losses in his real estate portfolio despite his lucrative, multimillion-dollar career, financial documents show," Paytner wrote.

She even included DMX's "demolished" child home, which was actually a public housing development.

Hundreds of people have already called the article out on social media for not taking Simmon's battle with addiction seriously and mocking his struggle with addiction.

DMX wasn't just careless.

He wasn't just bad at finances.

He was not trying to get over.

He was an addict.

Along with all the harmful things drugs can do to your body, many don't think about addiction's economic burden.

The cost of addiction is more than twice that of any other neurological disease, according to drug abuse.com, an online platform created to offer alcohol and drug abuse education and resources and a subsidiary of American Addiction Centers.

Addiction can lead to multiple factors affecting financial stability, including loss of income, healthcare, legal fees, and more.

Not only was the article distasteful, but it was also outright unnecessary. When a man is fighting for his life, why would the world need to know how many homes he has lost?

More importantly, why does it matter?
