Jalen Hurts, 24, and this year’s Super Bowl Runner Ups, the Philadelphia Eagles, have agreed to a massive contract extension worth a stunning $255 million over the next five years for the quarterback’s services. Hurts’ deal is the biggest contract in terms of average value in NFL history.

Leading the Eagles to a 14-1 record as a starter in 2022, the uber talented dual threat quarterback has definitely earned this mega deal. A second round pick in 2020, Jalen took over for a struggling Carson Wentz and hasn't looked back since. He has put together a solid 23-11 record as a starter for the Eagles after Wentz was traded the following offseason.
After a dominating team performance against the New York Giants during the playoffs this past January, Philadelphia Eagles Head Coach Nick Sirianni expressed how important Jalen was to his football team.
“I know this is high praise, but to have him out there is like having — I shouldn’t even go there — it’s like having Michael Jordan out there. He’s your leader. He’s your guy.”

In a similar fashion, Eagles’ owner Jeffrey Lurie had this to say to the media in regards of Hurts’ status in the league.
“The hardest part, for sure, is the scarcity of really good quarterbacks, and we got one, and we got a very special player.”
According to sources, the deal also includes a no trade clause which is the first in team history.
Hurts was a legitimate MVP candidate last season, and at times the front runner, racking up over 4,300 yards through the air and ground with an impressive 22 touchdowns to only six interceptions with 13 additional scores rushing. The 43 total touchdowns surpassed Eagles great Donovan McNabb for most ever in a single season in franchise history.
He showed tremendous growth as a passer throughout his second season as a full time starter. One of his most iconic performances from last season came in the most crucial game, the Super Bowl. Going toe to toe with Patrick Mahommes and the Kansas City Chiefs, Hurts racked up 374 total yards and four touchdowns with only one turnover that eventually led to the Chiefs victory.
The Eagles made a smart decision by immediately locking up their quarterback of the future without letting things stall because of contract negotiations. Hmmm, now imagine a world where the Ravens acted similarly in regards to Lamar Jackson.
Wishful thinking i guess…

Finally!!
The 2022-2023 NBA regular season is officially in the books and now 20 teams have the opportunity to compete for the prestigious Larry O’Brien Trophy. With so much chaos down the stretch, we now have a complete look at the playoffs and play-in tournament.
NBA Playoff Picture 2023 by NBA.com
The final day of the regular season saw several teams jockeying for playoff position in the uber competitive Western Conference.
The Los Angeles Lakers faced somewhat of a test against the Utah Jazz, who were playing without its regular rotation of players but Lebron James flexed his stroke from deep draining 8 of 14 threes and totaling 36 points as the Lakers locked in their position in the play-in tournament.

The T-Wolves and Pelicans were also in a bout that had significant playoff ramifications but unfortunately a heated exchange between Rudy Gobert and Kyle Anderson stole the headlines.

Minnesota eventually won securing their position in the play-in but lost a key contributor in Jaden McDaniels, fracturing his hand after punching a wall on his way to the locker room.

The Eastern Conference wasn't as exciting with playoff positions set in stone. Four of the top six seeds suffered losses with the majority of them resting starters to prepare for the playoff push.
2023 NBA Play-In Tournament matchup schedule
Play-In Game 1: (8) Atlanta at (7 Miami)
No one mucks up an opposing team's game plan like the Miami Heat. Both teams were inconsistent for the majority of the season but “Playoff Jimmy” is real. I like the Heat to advance. Sorry Trae…
Play-In Game 2: (8) Minnesota at (7) LA Lakers
No Rudy? No problem… The Lakers definitely caught a break with the Timberwolves unforeseen inner turmoil and with the three time Defensive player of the year facing a 1 game suspension imposed by the team, The Lakers win easily…
Play-In Game 3: (10) Chicago at (9) Toronto
Two veteran laden teams that undoubtedly had higher expectations heading into the season. This might be the most competitive out of the four games during the play-in. I'm a personal fan of great guard play and defense. Raptors in a close one.
Play-In Game 4: (10) Oklahoma City at (9) New Orleans
Oklahoma City may be the biggest surprise this season. Yes they have talent but they are also super young and inexperienced. Despite numerous injuries, The Pelicans somehow won enough games to make it in but unfortunately their postseason will end Wednesday night. Shai and the endless supply of Williams at the Thunder’s disposal will advance to the next round.
The Playoffs are where legends are made and after an eventful regular season I'm pretty sure this year’s Playoff run will be filled with even more unforgettable moments.

It’s funny how in this country we can see the same gesture and come away with two different conclusions. It's also funny how a dominating performance by the LSU Lady tigers can be overshadowed with everything else that's going on off the court.
Let's start by giving props to Angel Reese as she wins the Tournaments Most Outstanding Player. The double double machine carried her strong regular season performance into the tournament and was undoubtedly the team's emotional leader.
Jasmine Carson
Michael Johnson via Nola.com
The Tigers got off to a hot start shooting the ball, led by Jasmine Carson’s 21 points in the first half off the bench. The senior guard was super efficient, hitting all seven of her first half shots including a three pointer off the glass right before halftime.
National Player of the year Caitlin Clark struggled to find a rhythm as she was held scoreless in the second quarter despite accumulating 14 for the half. Clark also made NCAA tournament history passing Sheryl Swoopes’ record for most points in a single NCAA women’s tournament.
The Hawkeyes comeback was valiant but short lived. Foul trouble was a major issue all night for Iowa. Late in the third quarter Iowa’s starting center picked up her fourth foul of the game while Clark simultaneously was hit with a technical foul.
The Tigers ultimately cruised to a 102 - 85 victory, which is the first women’s national title in school history.
During the closing moments of the game, the tiger’s Reese hit Clark with the “you can’t see me” gesture made popular by WWE wrestler John Cena and proceeded to point to her ring finger.

Clark made a similar gesture during Iowa’s Elight Eight victory versus Louisville, which drew praise from Cena.

Let me be clear this has nothing to do with Clark. She is an amazing player.

The McDonald's All American Game is an annual event that hosts some of the best highschool seniors from across the country. Every year highly touted prospects showcase their skills with hopes of making the same impact on the March Madness stage as soon as next year.
This year’s game had the basketball world buzzing, as fans in attendance and those watching from home got a chance to see some of the game’s future stars.
Sierra Canyon High School (California) was well represented on both sides - Judea Watkins scored 25 points and led the West ladies squad to a 110 - 102 victory over the East - with many in attendance eager to see Bronny James Jr., son of the NBA’s all time leading scorer and Los Angeles Lakers superstar Lebron James.
Talk about a full circle moment! 20 years after his first appearance Lebron was in the building to support his son.

Despite receiving some scrutiny about whether or not he deserved to be on the squad, Bronny left no doubt that he has a legitimate game and the poise to handle the pressures of being the son of “King James”. On the biggest stage Bronny delivered!

Despite not officially declaring to a school, many believe he will sign with Ohio State University with USC and Oregon also in the running. The real question is will he make it to the NBA?
What the scouts are saying??
From what I can gather, he isn’t the second coming of his dad but he does possess solid size to become a capable combo guard with elite defensive potential. He has a smooth jump shot, a vocal leader with tremendous work ethic with an incredible feel for the game.

There is no secret that Lebron wants to play with his son. Back in 2022 Lebron told the Athletic so in an interview, insinuating he will be willing to take a lower salary to make it possible.
“My last year will be played with my son. Wherever Bronny is at, that’s where I’ll be. I would do whatever it takes to play with my son for one year. It’s not about the money at that point.” - The Athletic
It is very rare that father son duos even appear in the league let alone play together. Lebron doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon with his Lakers fighting for their lives in the uber competitive Western conference.
With all we've seen from Goat James, we shouldn’t be surprised if he accomplished something that has never been seen. So far so good. Bronny can play…

Lamar Jackson Announces He Has Requested a Trade
Lamar Jackson requests a trade from the Baltimore Ravens due to contract disputes. We discuss it here!
By: Adonis Armstrong
Lamar Jackson one of the most the talented quarterbacks to step on the field, has requested a trade from Baltimore Ravens. This news doesn’t come as a surprise as the two sides haven’t been on the same page in contract negotiations going back to last season. Jackson has been placed under the non-exclusive franchise tag, which has totaled his value with the Ravens at $32 million.
The 2019 NFL MVP, Lamar Jackson has been with the Ravens since he was drafted in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft. During his time with the team, he has set numerous records and has led the Ravens to three playoff appearances. He is known for his extraordinary running ability, as well as his strong arm and nice precision passing.
Lamar took to his twitter to reveal the news today March 27, which he revealed the team won’t match his value. Many believe that the Ravens should do everything in their power to keep Jackson, as he is one of the most talented quarterbacks in the league and has the potential to lead the team to a championship. Jackson states his desire to help a team win a championship in the twitter post.
A letter to my Fans
— Lamar Jackson (@Lj_era8) March 27, 2023
I want to first thank you all for all of the love and support you consistently show towards me. All of you are amazing and I appreciate y’all so much. I want you all to know not to believe everything you read about me. Let me personally answer your questions
Only time will tell where Jackson will end up, but one thing is for sure, Jackson will be a highly sought after player if the Ravens do make him available for a trade.

NBA MVP Race: Embiid, Jokic, and Giannis All Eye The League's Top Award
As the NBA season draws to a close, Joel Embiid, Nikola Jokic, and Giannis Antetokounmpo are all eyeing the NBA’s MVP Award, but who will claim trophy? We discuss it here!
Left to Right: Joel Embiid, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokić
By: Joshua Martin
It's always difficult to separate the best from the best. And this year’s MVP race, more than normal, is the closest it's been in quite some time.
The newly minted Michael Jordan Trophy - awarded to the KIA NBA Most Valuable Player, doesn't reflect who is actually the best player in the league but his value to his organization. Which basically means, team context matters, along with impressive counting stats.
As the NBA season draws to a close, There are three MVP-level players who are clearly having MVP-caliber seasons.
I'm not a voter but if I had to place my money on a candidate, I would go with Embiid. The fact that Giannis and Jokic have won MVPs already benefits him greatly in this year’s race.
However, let's do our due diligence and make cases for each of the top three candidates.
1.)Why He Deserves the Trophy
2.)Why He Won't WIn It
We are literally splitting hairs with this one, which often makes debates such as this one quite contentious and fairly complicated. But let’s take it back to the basics, what do your eyes tell you?
1. Joel Embiid
“The Process” has been on a mission this season. It seems as if the 76ers recent playoff disappointments have motivated the big man to take his game to an even higher level.
1.) Embiid has the counting stats - 33.6 ppg 10.3 rbg 1.8 bpg on 55% shooting from the floor.
He leads the league in scoring and is top ten in rebounds, blocks and free throw attempts.
His team at the moment is the third seed in the East and is poised to make a strong playoff push.
He deserves the award because of his overall play. I've never seen a traditional Center with his shooting ability, the Sixers even trust Embiid to hit their technical free throws.
2.) The biggest detraction one could make is body language apparently. On a radio show on Sirius FM Radio, Hall of Fame Coach George Karl had this to say about Embiid.
“I don’t want to bad mouth Embiid because I think he’s really, really good… But he takes too many possessions off. He has lazy body language.” - George Karl
Not sure if body language should be high on the voter’s list of meaningful criteria but when you're having the type of season Embiid is having it can't all be hugs and kisses.
2. Nikola Jokic
1.) “The Joker '' is probably one of the more unique players we've ever seen. Normally when you think of an athlete dominating his or her sport, one would often envision supreme athleticism. This isn't the Joker’s style. The 6 '11 Serbian big man routinely posts video game-like numbers for a Denver Nuggets squad currently sitting atop the Western Conference.
His 24.7 ppg 11.9 rbg 9.9 apg is nothing to sneeze at either. Jokic may be the least disposable player on this list. To put it simply, the Nuggets perform as the best team in the league with Jokic and are the worst team by a mile without him.
2.) Voter fatigue may be the reason Jokic doesn't claim his 3rd consecutive MVP. Something we haven't seen since Larry Bird back in the 80’s. (1984-1986)
Unfortunately, We’ve seen this before. Many fans have grown numb to Jokic’s gaudy stat line. His poor defensive performances against elite competition doesn't help his case either.
Draymond shared his thoughts on the race on his podcast.
“Joel Embiid and Giannis Antetokounmpo is who I believe the MVP race has come down to. [Nikola Jokic], incredible year, [but] as of late he’s slipped and those guys have continued to ascend. As of late the Denver Nuggets have slipped and those two teams have ascended,” Green said in the latest episode of his podcast, The Draymond Green Show, per NBC Sports Bay Area.
With this being such a tight race, how you finish is definitely more important than how you start. They are currently 5-5 in their last ten games and their once stranglehold on the West has dwindled to a 3 and half game lead.
3. Giannis Antetokounmpo
1.) “The Greek Freak” checks all the boxes. His stat line is comparable to his contemporaries on this list. He is currently averaging 31.3 ppg 11.9 rbg 5.6 apg and he has the Milwaukee Bucks atop the Eastern Conference. No one plays the game with more effort and energy on both sides of the ball. With the recent slippage of the Nuggets and Embiid’s reputation, Giannis might capture his 3rd MVP.
2.) Familiarity breeds contempt. As in the case with Jokic, we have seen this before. We all know how great Giannis is. To be honest it's not a stretch to call him the best player in the league regardless of numbers or accolades. Our numbness to his dominance exists through no fault of his own. In fact he recently voiced his frustrations with the ever evolving criteria for the MVP trophy.
“Like, I believe — and I know — that people are dominating,” the Bucks forward said, via The Athletic. “So what is the MVP? Is it the guy who scores the most points? Is it the guy who’s the most efficient? Is it the guy who is the most dominant? Is it the guy who is the most valuable? Sometimes, the best player isn’t the most valuable player on the team. Like, I feel like Brook [Lopez] is such a valuable player for our team. Like [the MVP criteria] just f*****g — sorry for my language — it just changes. As I said again, I can’t control that. I can control only how I prepare for the game and try to be ready for the game.”
Hmmm… My thoughts exactly.

Vanessa Bryant Awarded $28.85 Million from L.A. County
Vanessa Bryant settles remaining claims with Los Angeles County for $28.85 million following the helicopter crash that killed her husband Kobe Bryant, daughter Gianna, and seven others. We discuss it here!
By: Joshua Martin
Vanessa Bryant, wife of the late Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant, has agreed to settle her remaining claims with Los Angeles County for $28.85 million dollars.
According to ABC News, Vanessa Bryant attorney Luis Li addressed the ruling in a statement.
“Today marks the successful culmination of Mrs. Bryant's courageous battle to hold accountable those who engaged in this grotesque conduct. She fought for her husband, her daughter, and all those in the community whose deceased family were treated with similar disrespect. We hope her victory at trial and this settlement will put an end to this practice” - Luis Li, Vanessa Bryant's attorney
Co-plaintiff Chris Chester, whose wife and daughter were also killed in the crash, also settled for $19.95 million.
LA County attorneys believe the settlement is “fair and reasonable” and hopefully allows the Bryant and Chester families to heal from their loss.
Kobe, Gianna and others connected to the Mamba Sports Academy were headed to Thousand Oaks for a youth basketball game when the helicopter they were traveling in crashed killing all nine passengers onboard in the Calabasas Hills west of L.A.
Several months later Vanessa Bryant filed a lawsuit against Los Angeles County, claiming that the first responders took photos of her deceased husband and child as “souvenirs” and inappropriately shared them with others.
In August 2022, a jury awarded Bryant $16 million after she sued the county for negligence and invasion of privacy.
Federal officials blame pilot error as the cause of the crash.

Britney Griner Signs 1 Year Deal with Phoenix Mercury
Britney Griner back on the court after signing a one year deal with Phoenix Mercury.
By: Joshua Martin
After a tumultuous stint in a Russian prison that lasted nearly 10 months, the six time WNBA all star has reached a one-year agreement to sign with the team that originally selected the Center first overall back in 2013.
Griner was arrested in February of 2022 after she was accused of bringing vape canisters containing cannabis oil into the country. The canisters were prescribed but were packed inadvertently due to Griner’s haste to board a flight.
After negotiations by the Biden Administration, Griner was released in exchange for Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout.
In a statement following her release, Griner admitted that the experience was tough on her emotionally but the love from her supporters kept her spirits up.
“I dug deep to keep my faith and it was the love from so many of you that helped keep me going” - Britney Griner
Griner also stated her intentions on resuming her WNBA career, specifically with the Mercury.
I also want to make one thing very clear: I intend to play basketball for the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury this season, and in doing so, I look forward to being able to say ‘thank you’ to those of you who advocated, wrote, and posted for me in person soon.
Love always,
BG #42
The team officially announced the two time defensive player of the year’s return with a simple caption that read
“There she is 🧡”
Griner, one of the most decorated players in her sport, has terrorized opponents with her gaudy size and presence (she stands 6 foot 9).
The start of the season is a few months away but Britney intends to pick up right where she left off. The Mercury are just excited as fans to see her make her highly anticipated return to the court.

Salt Lake City, Utah was this year's destination the entire NBA world ascended upon for this year’s All-star weekend. The NBA’s brightest stars and celebrities alike were center stage as they showcased their abilities across a packed weekend full of exciting events for basketball fans.
Friday Night
The Jordan Rising Stars Challenge featured four teams coached by former NBA stars. Team Pau, Team Deron, Team Joakim and Team Jason competed in a mini tournament involving 21 rookie and second year NBA players along with a few players from the G League. Team Pau won the tournament while Pelicans Guard Jose Alvarado took home the tournament MVP trophy. .
The NBA Ruffles All Star Celebrity game featured a cross section of athletes and entertainers, which included Grammy Award winning rapper 21 Savage, musicians Cordae and Jonelle Monae, NFL Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson and recently retired MLB player Albert Pujols. The MVP of the game, D.K. Metcalf, was a clear overwhelming presence on the court and instantly became a crowd favorite with his powerful dunks. Team Dwayne Wade, NBA Legend, defeated Team Ryan Smith, Governor of Utah, in a highly competitive game that came down to a half court heave at the buzzer.
Saturday Night
NBA x HBCU Classic
The highly anticipated NBA HBCU Classic between Grambling State University and their long time rival Southern University gave a much needed spotlight to Historically Black Colleges. On the campus of the University of Utah, Grambling captured the victory as NBA analyst Stephanie Ready and Hall of Famer Grant Hill called the game. Southern Head coach Sean Woods applauded the NBA for the exposure.
“The NBA has given us this platform, but this isn’t the end. We’re getting more TV exposure, so you’re starting to see really big-time games. And with the transfer portal now, we’re getting transfers coming in from Power 5 schools. The talent pool is rising in our league.”
As part of their ongoing commitments to HBCUs, NBA and AT&T each donated $100,000 to Grambling State and Southern University.
In the 2023 KIa Skills Challenge, Team Jazz (Jordan Clarkson, Walker Kessler, and Collin Sexton) defeated Team Antetokounmpo (Thanasis and Alex Antetokounmpo, along with Jrue Holiday) and Team Rooks (Paolo Banchero, Jaden Ivey, and Jabari Smith) in front of their hometown crowd after trailing early.
The 2023 Starry 3-Point Contest featured some of the best shooters in the league today. The 8-man field included Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers, Tyler Herro of the Miami Heat, Buddy Heild of the Indiana Pacers, Kevin Hueter of the Sacramento Kings, Lauri Markkanen of the Utah Jazz, Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics, Julius Randle of the New York Knicks, and the eventual champion Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers. “Dame Dolla” defeated Buddy Heild with a moneyball on his last rack in the final round. Lillard, who is a superstar in this league, said winning the event undoubtedly made him one of the greatest shooters ever.
“I think all the best shooters in the history of our game, most of them have one of these… I just wanted to get it done at least one time. So I’m happy I got it, now I can retire from it.”
Damian Lillard | Patrick T. Fallon via AFP
Initially viewed as an afterthought, The 2023 AT&T Slam Dunk Contest was the best it's been in years. Philadelphia 76ers guard dazzled the crowd with his gravity defying dunks and creativity. Not to mention he completed all of his attempts on the first try. Houston Rockets forward Kenyon Martin Jr., New York Knicks big man Jericho Sims and New Orleans Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III held their own but were no match for McClung who sealed his impressive night with an incredible 540.
Sunday Night
For the first time in All Star game history, the main event featured a pre draft where captains Lebron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo picked their teams. Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum led team Giannis to victory while also capturing the Kobe Bryant All Star MVP trophy by dropping 55 points, an all star game record previously held by Lakers forward Anthony Davis. The lack of defense and effort was jarring as the game has unfortunately dissolved into a glorified shootaround but that didn't stop JT from going after the award in honor of his childhood idol Kobe Bryant.
“It’s extremely special to me. My first All-Star Game was in Chicago in 2020 when they renamed the MVP after him and I remember telling myself that someday I got to get one of those.”
The captains played limited minutes because of minor injuries.
Overall, on a scale from 1 to 10, I'll give this year's All Star weekend a 7 with a few surprises here and there. The fans were amazing and in full force but maybe the NBA should look into some warmer locations. With no set destination for 2025, L.A. would be a dope changeup!! Let’s make that happen NBA!!

Mahomes leads Chiefs to Second Super Bowl Victory in Four Years Despite Injury
Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City Chiefs secure their dynasty status with a thrilling victory in Super Bowl 57.
By: Joshua Martin
What a game!!
The Kansas City Chiefs locked up their second Super Bowl victory in 4 years in front of an electric crowd at State Farm Arena in Glendale, Arizona for Super Bowl 57 Sunday night. Albeit in unfamiliar territory, the Chiefs entered the game as 1.5 point underdogs, the victory was sealed after an impressive 26-yard run, all on a balky ankle I might add, by the eventual 2 time Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes.
Patrick Mahomes | Kevin Sabitus via Getty Images
Mahomes re-injured the ankle right before halftime after landing awkwardly on a tackle made by Eagles linebacker T.J. Edwards. The Chiefs appeared to be heading towards another disappointing showing in the Super Bowl after trailing by 10 entering the half with a visibly injured quarterback.
The second half was the polar opposite as the Chiefs scored 4 touchdowns on all 4 of their possessions in the 2nd half, eventually taking a 28-27 lead midway through the 4th quarter against the feisty Eagles.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts tied it up ( 35 - 35) after a 2 yard score and 2 point conversion with 5:15 remaining.
The aforementioned run by Mahomes, followed by strategically killing the clock with a series of kneel downs, set up a 27 yard field goal attempt by Harrison Butker that eventually gave the Chiefs the victory.
I'll admit the late game kneeling was a lackluster way to end an otherwise entertaining matchup, but it didn't, however, spoil a night full of memorable firsts.
Both squads started Black quarterbacks for the first time in Superbowl history.

Hurts told reporters about the significance of the game, according to NFL.com.
“I think it’s history. I think it’s something that’s worthy of being noted and it is history. It’s come a long way. I think it’s only been seven African-American quarterbacks to play in the Super Bowl, so to be the first for something is pretty cool. I know it will be a good one.”

We use terms like “G.O.A.T.” and “dynasty” a tad bit too loosely these days but 3 AFC Championships and 2 Super Bowl victories in a 4 year span looks pretty Goatish to me as Patrick Mahomes leaves no doubt that he is the best Quarterback in the league and the Chiefs are indeed a dynasty with a Hall of Famer at Head coach.
In Summation, it was refreshing to get a competitive game featuring two teams who were honestly the best squads from their respective conferences all year. Now the long wait begins as the 22-23 season concludes.
*sighs
There’s always next year Cowboys fans…

In 2020, two Ohio State football players, were accused of raping a fellow female student. Amir I. Riep and Jahsen L. Wint were recently found not guilty on all charges including two counts each of rape and one count of kidnapping.
Dan Sabol and Sam Shamansky represented Riep and Wint as their defense attorneys respectively and presented the argument that sex between all parties was consensual and that the woman’s father pushed his daughter to pursue criminal charges only after she regretted her actions.
Jansen Wint and Amir Riep
According to court records, the woman stated she began having consensual sex with Riep but changed her mind and decided to stop. She told police that Wint walked into the room and Riep asked her if Wint could join in. She then stated that Riep grabbed her by the neck, and began forcing her to have sex. She also said that Riep pinned her down while Wint forced her to have oral sex.
According to court documents, after the act was over, they were accused of forcing the the woman to state her name on camera and state that the sex between them was consensual.
Riep and Wint were arrested on February 11, 2020 and taken to the Franklin County Correction Center. Soon after, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day dismissed both players from the team.
This has been an unfortunate situation for Riep and Wint as they have been fighting this case for three years, with their entire lives, football career, and education put on hold. After the verdict was read, Riep and Wint broke down in tears.

"I'm going to get my life back on track, get my degree and keep on being a law-abiding citizen," Wint said to The Columbus Dispatch.
Wint finished the program in human development at Ohio State in 2020 but the university refused to dish out his degree until the outcome of the trial.
"I'm grateful," Riep said of the verdict. "And you grow through what you go through."
Riep still has two semesters remaining at Ohio State to graduate in sports management. Both young men will now have the opportunity to live life freely and pursue their dreams after living out a nightmare situation.
"The jury did a fantastic job discerning the truth and contrasting what Amir said and what his accuser said," Dan Sabol said. "It took a long time, but the system worked."

Lebron James Closes in on All Time NBA Scoring Record | Is He the Greatest?
Lebron James is now trailing only NBA Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, for the NBA’s all time leading scorer title. His resume gives him a strong claim to be called the greatest ever. We discuss it here!

By: Joshua Martin
As of January 17th, Lebron James has amassed 38,072 points over his illustrious 19 year NBA career. He is now trailing only NBA Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who is currently the league’s all time leading scorer. Lebron passing Kareem is almost inevitable at this point but there are still many who are unsure where to place Lebron amongst the all time greats.
Let’s see…18x NBA All Star, 4x NBA MVP, 4x NBA Champion, Lebron’s has a literal laundry list of accolades that stretches as far as the Mississippi river. As his accomplishments continue to amass, some would say there is no debate.
However, sports fans love a debate and nothing stirs the emotions more than the never ending question… “Who is the greatest of all time?” With updated resumes here are a few that have a legit claim of G.O.A.T. alongside “King James”
Steph Curry
Wardell Stephen Curry II, a.k.a. the greatest shooter of all time, has single handedly changed the game of basketball forever. Currently playing in his 13th NBA, Steph has 4 Championships, 2 MVPs with one unanimous, and at this moment has amassed 3264 three pointers made and counting. The all time leader in 3 pointers made has impacted the game no like no other. If he continues to add to his already gaudy numbers, his case for GOAT will be even stronger. Wouldn't be surprising if Steph ages gracefully in the league due to shooting prowess, which has him in line to post even more insane statistics.
Michael Jordan
Michael Jeffrey Jordan! Michael Jeffrey Jordan! From the iconic Jordan sneaker line, to his relentless approach to the game, MJ terrorized opponents during his career. The 6 rings along with 6 Finals MVPs. The last shot, that may or may not have been a slight push off. So many iconic moments that anyone with a pulse has heard of “Air” Jordan. 5x MVP, 10x Scoring Champion, 9x All Defensive Team. It's almost blasphemy to compare anyone to him. As time goes on however and resumes start to fill out, maybe MJ’s reign as the GOAT may have some legitimate competition. For the sake of this article maybe.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Kareem Abdul Jabbar, the current NBA all time leading scorer, simply dominated during his 20 year NBA career. He finished as the all time leader in blocks, games played and minutes as well. Born Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor Jr., Cap accumulated 6 NBA Championships, A league record 6 MVPs, while also appearing in 19 all star games. Awarded the Presidential medal of Honor by President Barack Obama in 2016, the actor, best selling author and coach has a resume that makes his argument for the greatest of all time legit and will probably stand the test of time. Not to mention his amazing collegiate career.
O yeah, Magic Johnson, the Late Great Bill Russell…
*Sighs*, The debate continues…

Buffalo Bills safety, Damar Hamlin, was released Monday January 9 from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and is now back in Buffalo, one week after suffering cardiac arrest during the Monday Night Football game in Cincinnati against the Bengals. It’s reported that he’s in good hands at the Buffalo General hospital, according to Cincinnati’s WLWT channel 5 news.

Damar appeared to make a easy routine tackle in the game against Cincinnati Bengals wide out, Tee Higgins. Hamlin stood up after the play, but eventually collapsed on the field moments later. Medical staff rushed onto the field and performed life-saving CPR to help keep Hamlin alive. Hamlin is very grateful to be alive and receive so much love he took time to speak some words on Twitter.
“Watching the world come together around me on Sunday was truly an amazing feeling”
Headed home to Buffalo today with a lot of love on my heart. 🫶🏾

Watching the world come together around me on Sunday was truly an amazing feeling.
The same love you all have shown me is the same love that I plan to put back into the world n more.
Bigger than football! 🫶🏾
Although Hamlin has made significant progress, it’s uncertain when he will be able to return to football activities. He is placed on injured reserve for the reminder of the season from the traumatic incident. Normally, when a player is placed on IR their salary is cut in half, but the Buffalo Bills and the NFL worked out an agreement to pay him his full salary. Which opens a conversation on why NFL athletes should get guaranteed contracts in the future.

Mike Tomlin Has Never Had a Losing Season as an NFL Head Coach
With a victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, Mike Tomlin has made history as the only Head Coach to go 16 consecutive seasons without a losing record. We discuss it here!

With a victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, Mike Tomlin has made history as the only Head Coach to go 16 consecutive seasons without a losing record. With as much turnaround the NFL experiences with teams having up and down years, Tomlin has proved to be one of the most consistent coaches in history.
The Steelers finish the season at 9-8 after a rough 2-6 start. Despite going 7-2 down the stretch, The Steelers just missed the playoffs this season. Steelers running back, Najee Harris, was very optimistic about the future of the Steelers’ organization after their last win.
"I think that for us to come together through all that adversity that we had early on in the year, for us to finish out the season the way we did, it should be motivation for us," Harris said. "We should be hungry for next year. That's what I was telling a lot of guys on the sideline when I saw the Dolphins won. I just shook Kenny's hand and told him he had a great year. We've gotta do a lot as a team if we wanna be where we're at next year, not waiting for the team to lose, to get in. We got a lot to build on to make the playoffs, but we accomplished not having a losing season from it. We just finished really strong."
Tomlin is one of the few Black Head Coaches in the NFL and has paved the way for other Black coaches to have longevity in the league. 16 straight seasons with no losing records is an amazing accomplishment. Even just coaching 16 years straight as a Head Coach in the NFL is a statement itself. Tomlin deserves all of his flowers.
The Steelers players have a lot of respect for Tomlin and despite them being out of the playoffs, the team wanted to make sure they kept Tomlin’s streak alive. Steelers cornerback, Arthur Maulet, was adamant about securing the victory for Tomlin.
“We’re not about to be his first team to have a losing record,” Maulet said. “We’re not about to be known for that shit. It just can’t happen.”
It’s clear the Steelers have some talent and the future is bright for the organization. With Tomlin’s track record, expect the Steelers to be right back on the winning side next season.

Fisk University Is Making History With HBCU Gymnastics Program
Fisk University, who started their gymnastics program last spring, is set to become the first HBCU to participate in an NCAA women’s gymnastic meet Friday. We discuss it here!
Fisk Gymnastics
By: Adonis Armstrong
Jordynn Cromartie entered her senior year of high school going through a tough decision; a decision many other Black gymnasts have been struggling with for years. The Houston native wanted to go to a predominantly Black college or university, and she wanted to continue to play the sport she loves and committed her whole life to.
Cromartie had one issue; she knew it was a strong possibility she couldn’t do both. While talking to her Uncle during Thanksgiving, Frank Simmons, who is on the Board of Trustees at Fisk University, Cromartie discussed her concerns about going to Fisk, which is a private HBCU located in Nashville, Tennessee with around 1,000 students.
“He and my aunt were like, ‘Oh you haven’t made a decision, you should come to Fisk,’” Cromartie said. “I’m like, ‘Well, they don’t have a gymnastics team.’ To go to a college that doesn’t have what I would be working for forever was crazy to me.” Simmons gave her some hope by saying, “I’ll make it happen.”
Within the span of many weeks, Simmons connected with the founder of Atlanta based, Brown Girls Do Gymnastics owner, Derrin Moore, who has been attempting to drum up support for gymnastics at an HBCU, specifically with Fisk trustees. One trustee was very in tune with Moore’s pitch and generously donated $100,000 if Fisk would adopt the sport.
Fisk University will make history Friday afternoon in Las Vegas at the Orleans Arena becoming the first HBCU to participate in an NCAA women’s gymnastics meet. The Bulldogs are set to compete against Southern Utah, Washington, and North Carolina as part of the inaugural Super 16, an event that includes some tough perennial NCAA powerhouses like Oklahoma, Michigan, and UCLA.
With the emergence and popularity of Olympic champions Gabby Douglas and Simone Biles, the face of gymnastics has been changing. It started with the help of Biles winning in 2012, becoming the first Black woman to win Olympic gold.
Hopefully, in the future more HBCUs will follow in the footsteps of Fisk University and get out of their comfort zones and help expand the opportunity for athletes to choose the legacy with the opportunity to do what they love.

71-point Performance by Donovan Mitchell Prompted a Drug Tested by NBA
Cleveland Cavaliers guard, Donovan Mitchell, had a game for the ages Monday night against the Chicago Bulls. The all star guard scored 71 points that earned him an early morning drug test from the NBA! We discuss it here!

26 year old Cleveland Cavaliers guard, Donovan Mitchell, had a record breaking game in scoring against the Chicago Bulls. January 2nd, Monday night Mitchell torched the Bulls with a whooping 71 point performance followed with 11 assists to complete a double double. He also hauled in 8 rebounds as well. While his memorable night energized basketball fans around the world, the NBA wanted to validate his performance by drug testing him.
Even though the action seems like it’s not random because of the timing, it’s completely legal according to the collective bargaining agreement between the NBA and the National Basketball Players Association. It reads that players are subjected to four random tests during the year; two during the season and two during the off season. So after the 71 point performance, the league used one of their random tests to make sure Mitchell is an honest player.
Donovan isn’t the first player randomly selected to have a drug test. De’Aron Fox of the Sacramento Kings was subject to one after posting workout videos online. Even Bradly Beal after back to back 50 point games a couple seasons ago had to go through it.
Some fans are arguing that the NBA should test the All NBA guard Luka Doncic, who is having an MVP caliber year himself.
Donovan Mitchell is the 7th player to score 70+ points in an NBA game. pic.twitter.com/N4Bu3akUy0
— NBA (@NBA) January 3, 2023
Mitchell was hot from the field shooting 64 percent from the floor, while making 7 3-pointers, and finishing the game out strong in overtime with 13 points to erase a 21-point deficit to get a win against the Bulls. He is just the seventh player in the league’s history to score 70 points in a game. The last player to accomplish the feat of 70 points is Phoenix Suns All star Guard Devin Booker in a loss to the Boston Celtics on March 24, 2017.
Andddd just like that we are drug tested this morning 😂😂😂 https://t.co/LvlbcPDucP
— Donovan Mitchell (@spidadmitchell) January 3, 2023
Mitchell joins the likes of Wilt Chamberlain, Kobe Bryant, David Thompson, Elgin Baylor, David Robinson and Devin Booker as the only players to score 70 or more points in an NBA game.

24 year old Buffalo Bills safety, Damar Hamlin, suffered cardiac arrest during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals Monday night. Hamlin collapsed on the field after making a tackle on Tee Higgins in what caused a scary scene, leaving players and fans in tears. Damar’s heartbeat was restored on the field after he was given CPR, and he was transferred to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for further testing and treatment.
The incident happened with 5:58 remaining in the first quarter and Cincinnati leading the game, 7-3. The Buffalo Bills released a statement on Damar’s current condition, stating he is still in critical condition.
Damar remains in the ICU in critical condition with signs of improvement noted yesterday and overnight.
— Buffalo Bills (@BuffaloBills) January 4, 2023
He is expected to remain under intensive care as his health care team continues to monitor and treat him.
In the midst of this horrific situation, there has been a positive as Damar has a GoFundMe set up to fund a toy drive in his hometown of McKees Rocks, Pa. His goal was to raise just $2500 but now the fundraiser has raised over $6 million with over 200,000 donors. What Damar needs most is support and this incident has brought a world of new fans and supporters to his side.
Several Bills players visited Hamlin in the hospital to show support. Fans also gathered outside of the hospital as many were affected by incident.

The incident shows the dark side of the football. Watching a player go down like that on live television is traumatizing for any viewer, or teammates. The game was obviously postponed as of course, the game itself was no longer important, with Hamlin’s health being a priority.
Hamlin was having a breakout season with 91 tackles made this year. Our prayers go out to Hamlin as we hope he can make a full recovery.

Ed Reed is Headed to the SWAC as Head Coach of Bethune-Cookman University
The SWAC just got more exciting as NFL Hall of Famer and Super Bowl champion, Ed Reed, has agreed in principle to become the next head football coach at Bethune-Cookman University.
Ed Reed Being Inducted Into the NFL Hall of Fame
By: Omar Cook
Black college has been on the rise with national publicity and some of the nation’s top ranked players committing to some of HBCUs premiere programs. Former NFL legends and coaches such as Deion Sanders, Eddie George, and Hugh Jackson have taken on head coaching jobs at HBCUs bringing a major spotlight to Black colleges. Could this be a new trend?
It looks that way as NFL Hall of Famer and Super Bowl champion, Ed Reed, has agreed in principle to become the next head football coach at Bethune-Cookman University. Bethune-Cookman has historically been a powerhouse HBCU program winning six MEAC championships since 2000, but the program has struggled to find its footing since doing the SWAC in 2021.
Bethune-Cookman University Athletics has entered an agreement in principle with Pro Football Hall of Famer Ed Reed to be its 16th head football coach.

More information will be forthcoming.#𝙇𝙚𝙩𝙨𝙂𝙤 | #𝙃𝙖𝙞𝙡𝙒𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙨 | #𝙋𝙧𝙚𝙮𝙏𝙤𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧
Reed will have his hands full in revamping a program that went 2-9 in both of its previous seasons. An advantage that Reed will have is his connections to recruiting in Florida as he has spent the last three seasons at his alma mater, Miami, as a senior football advisor. At 44 years old, Reed will become the school’s 16th Head Coach.
"We are excited to hear that Ed has been named the head football coach at Bethune-Cookman," Miami athletic director Dan Radakovich said. "Ed is one of the best to ever wear a Miami Hurricanes uniform and he has served as a great mentor to our student-athletes the past three years. He will do a tremendous job leading the Wildcats program and the entire Miami family wishes him all the best."
Reed’s football resume includes Big East Defensive Player of the Year in 2001, as well as National Defensive Player of the Year by Football News. He was also a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award. Reed was a member of the Hurricane's 2001 National Championship team and went on to be 9x pro-bowler.
This is ,major for Black college football as many fans are wondering how the SWAC will continue to remain in the spotlight after Deion Sanders left Jackson State to take the job at Colorado. With Reed’s resume, expect the Wildcats to field a competitive team in the next few years but they will have their hands full in a tough Eastern Division with Florida A&M and a new look Jackson State team.
