Saquon Barkley Becomes Highest-Paid Running Back in NFL History with Record Eagles Deal

Saquon Barkley secures a record-breaking contract extension with the Philadelphia Eagles, becoming the highest-paid running back in NFL history after a dominant 2024 season and a Super Bowl LIX victory. We discuss it here!

Saquon Barkley has redefined the running back position in the NFL with his incredible 2024 season, now he is cashing in with a historic contract extension with the Philadelphia Eagles. Making him the highest paid running back ever. After joining the Eagles in March 2024 on a three year, $37.75 million deal, Barkley exceeded all expectations, leading the league with 2,005 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns during the regular season. His postseason performance was equally impressive, adding 499 rushing yards and five touchdowns, playing a pivotal role in the Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Barkley’s impact on the field was immediate. His ability to break tackles, coupled with his vision and agility, made him a constant threat to opposing defenses. His consistent excellence earned him the 2025 NFL Offensive Player of the Year award and solidified his status as one of the premier players in the league.

The running back position has historically been undervalued in terms of compensation, despite its critical role in both the running and passing games. Running backs like Barkley not only contribute significant yardage on the ground but also serve as reliable receivers and pass protectors. Their versatility demands a diverse skill set, making them indispensable to their teams’ offensive success. Barkley’s performance has reignited discussions about the true value of running backs and the need for their compensation to reflect their importance.

Barkley’s recent contract extension with the Eagles highlights this shift in perception. The two year, $41.2 million deal, with $36 million guaranteed and up to $15 million in incentives, makes Barkley the highest paid running back in league history, averaging over $20 million per season. Barkley has often emphasized the importance of hard work and perseverance.

Nothing is given to you. Everything is earned. You have to have that mindset that you have to work every single day. Learn every single day.
— Saquon Barkley

Barkley’s record setting contract is likely to influence future negotiations for running backs. As running backs continue to showcase their versatility and impact on the game, reasonable compensation becomes increasingly justified. Barkley’s achievements with the Eagles not only highlight his individual excellence but also pave the way for a broader recognition of the indispensable role running backs play in the NFL.

Super Bowl LIX: Mahomes’ Legacy, Eagles’ Redemption, and Kendrick Lamar’s Halftime Show

Patrick Mahomes aims for history, Saquon Barkley leads the Eagles' charge, Kendrick Lamar headlines the halftime show, and Ledisi performs "Lift Every Voice and Sing" at Super Bowl LIX. We discuss it here!

The moment is finally here!! Super Bowl LIX is upon us and we are here to break down the top story lines and what's at stake for both franchises as the two time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs prepare to take on a feisty Philadelphia Eagles squad seeking revenge after their Super Bowl 57 defeat in 2023.

Patrick Mahomes’ Greatness

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes enters the stage//Getty

The Ceasers Superdome in New Orleans is the stage for Sunday night as Patrick Mahomes tries to become the first Quarterback to lead a team to three consecutive Superbowl victories. With a victory, Mahomes and Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid will be etched in history as arguably the greatest QB - Head coach duo of all time. At only 29 years of age, barring injury, the two time regular season MVP has the opportunity to become the most decorated player at the position ever. Entering Sunday, Mahomes already has 3 Superbowl victories with 3 Superbowl MVPS. We are witnessing the rise of a potential suitor for G.O.A.T. Brady who?

The Real Reason the Eagles Are Here

After a standout 2024 season, amassing 2,005 rushing yards, Barkley has been instrumental in leading the Eagles to the Super Bowl LIX. His postseason performances have been dominant. In only 3 games the former Penn St. standout gained 442 rushing yards in only 3 games. He is currently 30 yards shy of surpassing Terell Davis’s 1997 record. A strong performance could not only secure a championship for the Eagles but also position Barkley as a frontrunner for Super Bowl MVP, reaffirming the critical impact of running backs in the NFL.

Kendrick Lamar’s Halftime Show - What should we expect?

2024 was a landmark year for Kendrick Lamar and it will culminate on the world's biggest stage with the help of his TDE labelmate SZA. Headlined by a critically acclaimed album release “GNX”, a high-profile industry feud with Drake, and a dominant showing at this year’s Grammys. This impressive run cemented his influence in the hip-hop industry and solidified his position as a prominent figure in American culture. This isn't the first time Kendrick has performed at the Superbowl, he made his first appearance back in 2022.

Culture Spotlight: Artist Ledisi will perform“Lift Every Voice and Sing”

Local artist Ledisi will perform “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” often referred to as the Black national anthem, marking its fifth consecutive appearance at the Super Bowl. This inclusion underscores the NFL’s ongoing recognition of African American cultural contributions.

Final thoughts and score prediction

To be honest at this stage of my football fandom, a suffering Cowboys fan, I truly just want to see a good game with no affinity for either team. It would be cool to see Patrick Mahomes make history plus I'd love to see a rival lose once again in the sport’s final game. I expect a physical low scoring game with each defense wreaking havoc on shaky offensive attacks. My final score? Chiefs 17 Eagles 10.

Here’s How to Watch

Television Broadcast: The game will be broadcast live on FOX.

Streaming Options: The game will also be available for streaming on Tubi, FOX’s streaming service, and through various live TV streaming platforms such as Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, and Sling TV.

Bryce James, Son of NBA Superstar LeBron James Chooses Arizona University Over Multiple Schools

Bryce James, the youngest son of NBA superstar LeBron James, will be playing Division 1 college basketball after officially announcing his commitment to the Arizona Wildcats. We discuss it here!

Bryce James Commits to the University of Arizona

By: Joshua Martin

Bryce James, the youngest son of NBA superstar Lebron James, will be playing Division 1 college basketball after officially announcing his commitment to the Arizona Wildcats on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.

Bryce played shooting guard at Sierra Canyon (California) and is considered to be a three-star recruit at the position in the class of 2025. According to reports, James selected Arizona due to Head Coach Tommy Lloyd’s ability to develop players and his patience with that process. He previously made visits to USC, where his older brother Bronny played for a season and also Notre Dame earlier last fall. The Fighting Irish, Ohio State and Duquesne also made offers to James throughout his recruitment.

Lebron took to social media to express his excitement about the news of his son’s commitment.

Bryce James began his high school career at Sierra Canyon before moving to Campbell Hall in May 2023. He later moved to Notre Dame High before returning to Sierra Canyon in November of 2023. The 6-foot-4, 165 pound guard currently holds an NIL deal from Klutch Sports, who have been a long representative of his father.

Bryce is a bit of a different athlete than his brother Bronny, which yields to great potential if he remains patient and develops.

"Bryce James is the son of Lebron James and that means, like his older brother Bronny, he's under the microscope. Bryce needs to be given time and space to run his own race though. He may not be the dynamic athlete or playmaker some expect at first, but he is a fundamentally sound player with solid perimeter size and a good early skill-set.” - 247Sports Director of Scouting Adam Finkelstien

Bryce becomes the second player to verbally commit to the Wildcats, joining five-star small forward Dwayne Aristode, who signed his national letter of intent in November.

The popular studio show will now appear on ESPN and ABC at the beginning of the 2025-2026 NBA season. This news comes after a settlement between Warner Bros. Discovery and the NBA was finalized early Monday morning. TNT Sports will continue to produce the show and it will air from Atlanta, except for when the show goes on the road.

“Inside the NBA” is expected to air during key moments on the league’s calendar, including opening week, Christmas Day games, Saturday night primetime games during the second half of the season, the playoffs and the NBA Finals.

The opportunity to continue the iconic and Emmy Award-winning ‘Inside the NBA’ is a huge win for basketball fans everywhere. We look forward to building on our longstanding partnership with TNT Sports and working together to promote NBA content across key WBD and NBA platforms.
— Adam Silver, NBA Commissioner

The new settlement gives TNT Sports, Bleacher Report and House of Highlights a global license for NBA content with no rights fee for the next 11 years. Warner Bros. Discovery will also continue its relationship with the league’s digital operations, including NBA.com, for five more seasons. Even though TNT Sports will not be airing games in the United States beginning next season, it does have rights to air a full package of games in select countries, including Latin America (excluding Brazil and Mexico), Poland, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden.

Together these agreements ensure fans will continue to enjoy TNT’s ‘Inside the NBA’ and create tremendous value for our entire portfolio as we accelerate the growth of TNT Sports, Bleacher Report, House of Highlights and our global sports business. We are pleased to partner with the NBA and Disney/ESPN, and to have solidified long-term rights and revenue for WBD.
— David Zaslav, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO

“Inside the NBA” started in 1989, the same year TNT started broadcasting NBA games. Barkley joined the show in 2000 while O’Neal came aboard during the 2011-2012 season. The humor and insight the NBA legends bring to the game of basketball has made the program a fan favorite and the recipient of 21 Emmy awards since its inception.

ESPN will continue to produce “NBA Countdown” and “NBA Today,” which will continue to run during the network’s regular season NBA coverage. Malika Andrews will continue to host both programs.

Mike Tyson reflects on his struggles with addiction, mental health, and the importance of testosterone management in a revealing interview, while gearing up for his anticipated match with Jake Paul. We discuss it here!

Known as one of the most dominant athletes the world has ever seen, Mike Tyson’s journey to the top was notoriously filled with adversity and controversy. The 58-year-old former two time Heavyweight boxing champion left an unforgettable mark on the sport of boxing, his combination of power, speed and intensity made him one of the more memorable figures in boxing history.

In a recent interview with Loaded Magazine, The World Boxing Hall of Fame inductee opened up about his struggles with drug addiction and how the experience has shaped his personal outlook on life.

I still have struggles with my mental well being but thankfully I have better tools. I’ve learned a lot over the years from being a former drug addict. I understand my triggers and why I self sabotage.
— Mike Tyson, Loaded Magazine

Later in the interview, Tyson opened about his testosterone usage, while attacking the stigma placed around the hormone. Adding that an insufficient level of the hormone has been shown to alter one’s mind-state and emotions.

I think many people want to blame others for their problems without realising they are a part of their own story and they can redirect their life at any time. But that’s only possible if you’re honest with yourself about how you got to where you are now.
— Mike Tyson, Loaded Magazine

Currently, Tyson is preparing for his highly-anticipated boxing match against YouTube sensation Jake Paul. Despite numerous delays and false starts, the bout is scheduled to be held on Nov. 15th at AT&T stadium in Arlington, Texas. The match will also be streamed globally on Netflix.

I think there is this misconception that if men take testosterone it’s because physically there is something wrong with them. But from the age of 30, I don’t care how healthy you are, your testosterone levels drop. This affects more than just your physicality, it also affects your mood. Getting a testosterone plan as you age should be as normal for a man as taking a daily supplement in my opinion, because it does so much to stabilize the body and mind.

Bron and Bronny Share the Court as King James Reflects on a Special Moment

LeBron and Bronny James made NBA history as the first father-son duo to share the court during the Lakers' win over the Timberwolves, creating an unforgettable moment in their basketball journey. We discuss it here!

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has created countless memories over his legendary 22 year NBA career but sharing the court with his son Bronny during Tuesday night’s victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves might be the one that stands out from the rest. LeBron and Bronny became the first father-son duo in NBA history to appear in a game together with 4:00 left in the second quarter.

That moment, us being at the scorer’s table together and checking in together, something I will never forget. No matter how old I get, no matter how my memory may fade as I get older or whatever, I will never forget that moment.
— Lebron James, postgame interview

Bronny, the 55th pick of last year’s draft, said sharing the floor with his dad made playing in his first career NBA game even more memorable. The two of them almost had a moment when Lebron passed the ball to Bronny on the wing for a wide-open three pointer but unfortunately the 20 year old’s jumper did not fall.

I tried not to focus on everything that was going on around me and tried to focus on going in as a rookie and not trying to mess up. But yeah, I totally did feel the energy, and I appreciate the Laker Nation for showing the support for me and my dad.
— Bronny James, postgame interview

Bronny went scoreless in his NBA debut and secured only one rebound, while his dad tallied 16 points, five rebounds and four assists in the victory. Anthony Davis led the way for the Lakers on opening night with 36 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks.

This is the first time we had a LeBron moment that was something huge and we won. Every other thing we’ve always lost, so it kind of kills the moment. But it was a special moment for everybody.
— Anthony Davis, postgame interview

The Lakers will look to keep the positive momentum going as the season progresses. Their next game is Friday at Crypto.com Arena versus Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns.

According to reports, Former All Pro Running Back Marshawn Lynch is considering running for Mayor of his hometown Oakland, Ca. During a recent episode of his “Politickin’” podcast, the former Super Bowl champion spoke on the possibility he would make a mayoral bid in an upcoming election.

It might be a possibility.
— Marshawn Lynch, Politickin’ featuring California Governor Gavin Newsome and Sports Agent Doug Hendrickson

On a trip to his alma mater, the University of California, Berkeley, for a ESPN College GameDay appearance, “Beast Mode” began mulling over the idea that he may run for office. As the podcast continued, Lynch jokingly likened his potential conduct as mayor to the late actor and comedian Bernie Mac. In the film, Mac portrayed Mitch Gilliam. A brash, loud mouth bail bondsman who became Vice President of the United States in the 2003 comedy “Head of State.”

Do you remember when Bernie Mac was walking through, when he was slapping the sh*t out of everybody? That’s how I would be coming through there… slapping the sh*t out of everybody, like, ‘Get your sh*t together.’
— Marshawn Lynch, Politickin’

Marshawn Lynch began his NFL career in 2007 when he was drafted 12th overall by the Buffalo Bills. During his four seasons in Buffalo he showcased his powerful running style and earned his reputation as a tough, hard nosed back.

In 2010, Lynch was traded to the Seattle Seahawks where he truly made his mark in the league. Earning him the nickname “Beast Mode” due to his explosive running style. During his time in Seattle, Lynch helped lead the team to back to back Super Bowl appearances. The Seahawks would capture the championship in 2014, with an impressive victory over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII. A game where Lynch rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown.

Lynch announced his retirement from professional football in 2015 but briefly returned in 2019, signing with the Seahwaks during a playoff run. He officially retired for a second time following the 2019 season. Throughout his career, he amassed over 10,000 rushing yards and 85 rushing touchdowns. Lynch will go down as of the most dynamic and memorable backs in NFL history.

The former No. 1 overall pick of his hometown team, the Chicago Bulls, is calling it quits after a 16-year career full of highs and lows. Rose, who became the youngest MVP in league history after securing the award at just 22 years old, officially announced his retirement today. In a detailed Instagram post, the 35 year old shared his thoughts on walking away from the game he loves so dearly.

Thank You, My First Love… You believed in me through the highs and lows, my constant everything else seemed uncertain. You showed me what love truly meant. You turned the court into my sanctuary, a home where I could express myself freely. You made every early morning and late night we spent together worth every drop of sweat.
— Derrick Rose Instagram

Rose took out ads in the local newspapers and added the retirement letter in the six cities he played for during his NBA career, which included New York, Cleveland, Minnesota, Detroit and Memphis. The Memphis Grizzlies was the three time All Star’s last stop before hanging it up.

D-Rose experienced success quite early in his NBA career, earning the Rookie of the Year award and First Team All Rookie honors in 2009. Just two years later he was leading the 62-20 Chicago Bulls to the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference. During that season, Rose won the MVP award and made All NBA First Team. They eventually lost in the Eastern Conference Finals to the Miami Heat juggernaut led by LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh.

Derrick Rose’s career was tragically altered in 2012 when tore his ACL in the first round of the 2012 playoffs. He missed all of the following season due to his injury and never returned to that elite level of play from his first few handful of seasons. He did however prove to be a serviceable veteran guard during the later stages of his career, finishing with career averages of 17.4 points and 5.2 points per game.

Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson is strongly solidifying her place as one of the WNBA’s greatest scorers ever. Another legendary milestone was reached on Wednesday (Sep. 11) as she officially broke the league’s single-season scoring record with 956 points, placing her just 44 points shy of an unprecedented 1,000 points in a single season.

Wilson’s impressive game was on full display against the Fever, but it was her pull up jumper with 26.4 seconds remaining in the first half that set the new single season high. Following the win, Wilson took to social media to celebrate her achievement.

God is so good! Top Tier !!
— A’ja Wilson, X

The Nike endorser continued her excitement during a post game press interview.

It feels great because now people will stop talking about it. Felt like it was just like lingering, lingering, lingering, so I’m glad that we got it done.
— A’ja Wilson, post game interview

The Olympian and two time league MVP also acknowledged her Aces teammates in helping her achieve the record.

I don’t want to sound cliché when I say this, I don’t get any of that without every single teammate along the way. My teammates, they’re the heartbeat. They get me going. A’ja Wilson
— A’ja Wilson

The league's expansion of its schedule is part of the reason we have seen several explosive offensive players emerge in recent seasons. When the WNBA was launched in 1997, each team played 28 games. From 2003-19, teams played 34 games and last season each played 40 games. Next year, each will play 44 games.

As the WNBA season winds down, all eyes will be on Wilson as she aims to reach the unprecedented milestone of a 1,000 point season. With the accomplishment, the reigning MVP will become the first player to score 1,000 points in a single season.

Angel Reese Breaks WNBA Record for Most Rebounds in a Single Season

Angel Reese sets a new WNBA regular-season rebounding record in her rookie year, surpassing legend Sylvia Fowles and solidifying her status as one of the league's brightest stars. We discuss it here!

By: Joshua Martin

Over the holiday weekend the “Bayou Barbie” broke the league’s regular-season rebounding record, marking the latest milestone in her impressive rookie season. The record was previously held by WNBA legend Sylvia Fowles with a total of 404. Reese needed six rebounds to surpass Fowles entering Sunday’s (Sept. 1) match up with the Minnesota Lynx. The Chicago Sky forward reeled in 19 boards during the contest, bringing her current regular season total to 418.

The WNBA expanded its regular season to 40 games prior to the 2023 regular season, Reese broke the record in 32 games, two less than Fowles. With eight regular season games remaining, her new benchmark is likely to rise. Officially cementing her place as one of the most spectacular rookies in WNBA history.

Coming into [the WNBA] I just knew my motor. Offensive rebounds and defensive rebounds is something that I know I can always do. I knew it was going to translate right away.
— Angel Reese, Chicago Sky Forward

Despite some common misconceptions about her game, Reese emphasizes that her accolades stem from hard work and willingness to get physical.

A lot of people think it’s because I get my own [misses] but statistically, it’s not. People think it’s because I’m the tallest on the court, when I’m not. It’s being able to go down there and bang, doing things that a lot of people don’t want to do. Defense and rebounding wins championships. And I’ve won championships at every level by just doing that.
— Angel Reese, Chicago Sky Forward

Reese broke the WNBA’s rookie record for rebounding and double-doubles earlier this season. The All-Star forward and the Chicago Sky have eight regular season games remaining and currently have a 11-21 record, placing them eighth overall in the WNBA standings.

Standout Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders is following his father’s footsteps by signing an NIL deal with the uber popular athletic brand Nike. The son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, Shedeur has rapidly emerged as one of college football’s brightest stars. As Deion’s relationship continues with upcoming releases of the renowned Nike Air Diamond Turf Max ‘96, his son will carry the legacy on the field with a deal that includes officially licensed apparel and footwear.

When asked about his father’s iconic line, The 22-year-old shared his thoughts on his future in footwear and the importance of the Nike Deion line.

I would want to build on it. I want to build on it. Have like a different version. But I think concept, because I feel like it’s more… like now, like just looking at life and looking at everything, it’s more about generational. It’s more about what could be passed down year after year after year after year rather than everybody starting to think they’re whole new wave and whole new because there’s no real substance behind it.
— Sheduer Sanders, August 27th episode of his podcast, 2Legendary with Shedeur Sanders

Known for his poise in the pocket, strong arm, and ability to lead under pressure, Shedeur has proven he can perform on the biggest stages. In his collegiate debut, he broke Colorado’s single-game passing record with 510 yards, showcasing his pinpoint accuracy and elite playmaking ability.

Colorado opens their season Thursday (Aug. 29) against FCS powerhouse North Dakota State and expectations are at fever pitch after falling short of a bowl game last season. Sanders is currently ranked as one the best quarterbacks in the upcoming NFL Draft and a projected Heisman Award winner.

LA Chargers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh Offered Colin Kaepernick Coaching Gig

Colin Kaepernick considers a coaching role with Jim Harbaugh, raising questions about a potential return to the NFL and his ongoing impact on social justice. We discuss it here!

Colin Kaepernick

By: Joshua Martin

The good trouble civil rights activist, Colin Kaepernick, was offered a coaching opportunity by his former head coach and mentor. Some are wondering if this could be a way “Cap” sees some playing time this season. Interestingly enough, the social justice warrior hasn’t wavered on the idea of a return.

Yeah, we talked a little bit about it. He’s considering it. He was out of the country. He said he was going to get back to me. We haven’t reconnected since then. That was early, early in the year.
— Jim Harbaugh, LA Chargers Head Coach

Why is this noteworthy? On Aug. 26, 2016, Colin began sitting during the national anthem. After the game, Kaepernick shared his thoughts on the recent injustices and why he chose to sit during the anthem.

It is to protest the injustices that are happening in America, the oppression that is happening in America…
— Colin Kaepernick, to the press after NFL game

The following Sunday after famously speaking with U.S. Army veteran Nate Boyer, Kaepernick took a knee alongside his 49ers teammates. Images that will live forever.

SInce that time, the free agent quarterback has been trying to get back on the field as a player, though it’s been widely speculated that he's been blackballed. One thing that’s unclear is how the NFL would respond to Kaepernick in the role of a coach. If he ever reconnects with Harbaugh, his potential to influence as a coach would manifest differently than as a player. Challenging his alleged “blackballing” streak.

I mean, it’s something I’ve trained my whole life for. So, to be able to step back on the field would be a major moment, a major accomplishment for me. I think it’s something that I could bring a lot to a team and help them win a championship.

Noah Lyles Claims Gold in Men's 100m Final at 2024 Paris Olympics

Noah Lyles wins his first Olympic gold in the men's 100m final at the 2024 Paris Olympics, setting a personal best record of 9.784 seconds and securing his title as the world's fastest man. We discuss it here!

Many may consider Team USA sprinter Noah Lyles a bit braggadocious but he certainly has the chops to back it up. On August 4th, Lyles won his career-first gold in the men’s 100m final at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The newly decorated gold medalist proved to be the “ world’s fastest man”  with a personal best record of 9.784 seconds. Defeating Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson, who previously held the world’s fastest time in 2024, by 0.005 of a second.

In post-race presser with ESPN, Lyles detailed how close the race was and openly admitted he thought he might lose to Thompson. Having to “lean” forward to secure the photo finish

We were waiting for the names to pop up, and I’m going to be honest, I came over [Jamaica’s Thompson], and I was like: ‘I think you got that one, big dawg! Something said I need to lean, and I was like, ‘I’m going to lean,’ because it’s that type of race.
— Noah Lyles, ESPN
What’s crazy is my [biomechanist] Ralph Mann, before I left for Paris, he’s like, ‘This is how close first and second is going to be away from each other. I can’t believe how right he was.
— Noah Lyles, ESPN

His journey to his gold medal moment wasn’t full of first-place finishes. In June, Lyles suffered a close loss in the semi final qualifying race with a 9.83-second time, losing to Jamaica’s Oblique Seville by 0.02 seconds. Oblique stared him down towards the end of that the race, however Noah would get the last laugh with a first place finish this go around. Seville completed the competition in last place.

Noah will have the opportunity to take home a second gold medal when he runs in the 200-meter final on Thursday, August 8th.

On Thursday (August 1st) Simone Biles came in first place, earning the gold medal in a highly competitive women’s gymnastics all-around finals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Biles edged out Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade by just over a point, one of the closest finishes she has ever experienced in any international event.

With her victory, the 27-year-old became the oldest woman to win the all-around finals since the first-ever Olympic all-around in Melbourne in 1952. Additionally, Miles joins Larisa Latynina of the Soviet Union and Vera Caslavska of Czechoslovakia as the only women to become two-time Olympic champions.

I just go out here and do what I’m supposed to and I’m doing what I love and enjoying it. So that’s really all that matters to me. Yes, it’s amazing now that I hear it, but I don’t think I’ll truly understand the depth of it until I walk away from the sport.
— Simone Biles, ESPN

Earlier this week, Biles became the most decorated American gymnast in the history of the Olympics after she earned her eighth Olympic medal with Team USA. An historic feat, she currently sits as the most decorated gymnast in history from any country if you include world championship medals.

The 22 year old rookie standout of the Chicago Sky has signed on to join Unrivaled, a new 3-on-3 winter women’s basketball league founded by WNBA stars Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart. In an increased effort to provide additional options to professional women’s basketball players who often rely on overseas teams during the off-season, Reese’s signing makes her the 10th WNBA star to sign with the new league.

For years, women have relied heavily on off-court sponsorships for a majority of their income. With Unrivaled, we’re revolutionizing the game by prioritizing investments in our stars and ensuring their on-court performance is reflected in their pay.
— Breanna Stewart

Unrivaled will feature 6 teams during its inaugural season, with 5 players on each team. Games will have a 1-hour playing time, with 4 quarters of play including a game clock and a shot clock. The league will also host a 1v1 single-elimination tournament to determine the best 1v1 player in the world. The league will also feature historic contracts, offering the highest average salary in women’s professional sports league history.

Unrivaled Basketball’s additional player pool includes Arike Ogunbowale, Jewell Loyd, Kelsey Plum, Rhyne Howard, Kahleah Cooper, Jackie Young, Chelsea Grey, and the two founders. Investors include U.S. soccer stars Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe, NBA legends Carmelo Anthony and Steve Nash, LPGA champion Michelle Wie West, former ESPN and Turner presidents John Skipper and David Levy and more.

This is going to be a league for all players and that’s why the ownership perspective is really, really valuable for us. To do anything, you have to have a few first movers, but I think after that then it’s getting the collective group attached and knowing that they have an equal share and are part of helping this thing grow, and will have voices into how this thing grows as well.
— Alex Bazzell, Unrivaled president

The season tips off in January 2025 in Miami.

Jayson Tatum Secures Largest Contract In NBA History With Extension From Celtics

Jayson Tatum makes NBA history with a groundbreaking $314 million contract extension from the Boston Celtics, securing his future with the team shortly after their 18th championship win. We discuss it here!

Jayson Tatum Secures Largest Contract In NBA History With Extension From Celtics

By: Joshua Martin

Just days after winning their league-leading 18th title, the Boston Celtics took little time ensuring fans that Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown will be in Boston for the foreseeable future. Despite not winning Finals MVP, Tatum now can claim the distinct honor of having the richest contract in NBA history. The new 5 year deal worth a record $314 million, overtakes his teammate and Finals MVP Jaylen Brown’s $285 million deal, which at the time was the richest in league history.

Tatum was a force this season despite being highly scrutinized. During the Celtics impressive playoff run he averaged 25 points, just under 10 rebounds, and six assists per game. Adding veteran pieces such as Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis to an already talented roster increased the pressure to win a championship. After years of coming up short, they finally got the job done against the Dallas Mavericks in a convincing 5 games.

BOSTON CELTICS ARE YOUR 2024 NBA CHAMPIONS 🏆 | 2024 NBA Finals

Tatum’s career accolades include a championship, a new record setting deal, 3 straight First Team All-NBA selections and 5 straight All-Star selections. Not bad before the age of 26.

Next season, the Celtics look to win back-to-back championships for the first time since the 2017 and 2018 Golden State Warriors. They will once again have a talented core after resigning guard Derrick White to a new deal also. Even with Kristaps on the mend, and inevitable age and regression, this Celtics team looks like they will be a thorn in the side of all NBA teams for years to come.

This year’s NBA Draft may go down as one of the most memorable drafts of all time. Not only did we see a plethora of potential stars walk across the stage but in the second round at pick number 55, The Los Angeles Lakers made history. With the 55th selection the Lakers chose Bronny James, making he and Lebron the first father son duo to play in the league simultaneously.

Multiple videos and stills surfaced of Lebron, Savannah, Bryce and LeBron’s mother, Gloria James, huddling around Bronny as he watched his name get called. The former USC Trojan could be seen wiping away tears as his mother handed him his official Lakers Draft Night hat.

Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka spoke on this historical moment

In the history of the NBA, there’s never been a father and a son that have shared an NBA basketball court and that feels like something that could be magical. We know, and have to respect of course, that LeBron has a decision on his opt-out…but if it worked out that he was on our team next season, NBA history could be made. And NBA history should be made in a Lakers uniform.
— Rob Pelinka

L.A.’s second superstar Anthony Davis shared similar sentiments. Admitting that Bronny will be fine, highlighting his on court abilities and his willingness to create his own path and not thrive off of the successes of his legendary father.

He’s very good defensively. He can read the floor very well. I think he’s a really good playmaker. I saw him work out a couple times besides the [Klutch Sports] pro day and working with a big — his reads, reading the defense, making the right passes — that was really impressive to me. I think he’s going to be fine, man. But one thing about Bronny, from what I’ve seen and what I heard, he wants to create his own path and he doesn’t want to be — even though he’s LeBron James‘ son, he don’t want be seen as that. And I think having that mindset and trying to create his own path is going to work out for him. … Who knows, he might come in and be ready to play for us.
— Anthony Davis, ESPN

During Bronny’s short collegiate stint at USC, the guard averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 19.4 minutes per game. His playing time and draft stock took a major hit after suffering from a cardiac arrest incident and surgery. His recovery sideland him for almost 5 months, making his basketball career murky at best.

Top 10 NBA Backcourts of the Last 25 Years

Let's take a look at the most dominating guard tandems since the turn of the century. Here are the top ten backcourts of the last 25 years!

Lately, anytime the Dallas Mavericks are on television, it feels as though there’s a national conversation about the best backcourts in NBA history. And rightfully so! The Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving pairing is one of the most explosive offensive backcourts the game has ever seen. But are they the best?

We can't forget the Splash Bros. who shattered shooting records during the 2010’s, or the massively successful duo of Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher. What about Tony Parker and Manu Ginoboli or the Grindhouse Grizzlies with Mike Conley and Tony Allen. Billups and Hamilton, Teague and Korver, CP3 and Harden? There are so many great duos to choose from.

Nothing incites sports fans more than a good ole top ten list. Let's take a look at the most dominating guard tandems since the turn of the century. While there may be an obvious number one, the criteria for this list was simple. Sustained on-court success, whether or not the duo won championships and also the lasting impact the two had on the court were taken into account.

Don't like our list? Let us know!

Honorable Mentions:

Jeff Teague and Kyle Korver: This All star duo led the Hawks to its franchise's only 60 win season before losing in the playoffs to Lebron and the Cavs.

Jason Kidd and Vince Carter: These two were deadly in the open court. VInce’s high flying style blended perfectly with Kidd’s pinpoint passing. Injuries and new blood in the Eastern conference stymied this duo's ascension.

Tony Allen and Mike Conley: Conley is a steady scorer and passesr while Allen became known as one of the scariest defenders in the league. Consistent duo that lacked nationwide exposure.

10.) Chris Paul and James Harden

Their time was short-lived but quite successful. The MVP version of the Beard and the Point God pushed the Golden State Warriors to Game 7 in the 2018 conference finals. If it wasn’t for a CP3 injury this team would’ve advanced to the Finals.

9.) Bradley Beal and John Wall

Oh what could’ve been. Wall’s athleticism and smooth passing skills made him an instant star in Washington. Beal, a sturdy scoring guard with range from deep, made him the perfect complement to Wall’s attacking, downhill style. The injury bug may be the biggest culprit behind why this duo didn't see more success on the court.

8.) Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum

Another duo that garnered success smack dab in the middle of the Warriors historic run. This duo routinely posted incredible counting stats during the regular season but lacked the critical support to compete with the better teams in the West. A conference finals appearance and the longevity of the run gives them the spot here.

7.) Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving

Luka is a walking 30 point triple double nuclear time bomb. Kyrie has the smoothest handles in the game and can easily pour in 50 on any given night. These two have enjoyed a stellar playoff run so far. A championship will boost them up this list but until then these other backcourts have won more and played together longer.

6.) Demar Derozan and Kyle Lowry

These two brought sustained success to a once moribund franchise. Their run unfortunately coincided with Lebron’s historic playoff reign over the Eastern Conference. Lowry, a feisty diminutive point, and Derozan, a mid range dynamo who also excelled at attacking the rim, accrued multiple all star appearances and the led Raptors to the playoffs 5 consecutive times during the 2010’s.

5.) Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo

Rondo was a do-it-all versatile threat while Allen, before Curry, was known as the greatest shooter in league history. Rondo’s strengths and weaknesses made him a perfect fit with Ray. The two went on to win a title with the C’s and carve out impressive Hall of Fame careers.

4.) Chauncey Billups and Richard Hamilton

These two pulled off one the biggest upsets in NBA Finals history. Mr. Big Shot’s clutch play and Rip’s smoothe shooting stroke spearheaded the Bad Boys 2.0 offensive attack during their improbable ‘04 title run. These two led the Pistons to six consecutive conference finals, winning 1 title while in Detroit.

3.) Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher

These two complementend each other's game perfectly. Kobe was a ball dominant scorer and Fish was more of a spot up shooter. The third ranked duo on the list propelled the Lakers to 5 NBA Titles. Fisher was also a deadly clutch shooter just as much as Kobe. With the game on the line either one could burn you.

Kobe Bryant & Derek Fisher - All We Do Is Win

2.) Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili

Parker and Ginobili were the driving force behind some historic Spurs teams. TP was a tad more consistent but the Spurs were unbeatable when Ginobili went off. This dynamic duo won 4 titles and combined with Duncan made one of the greatest teams of all-time.

1.) Steph Curry and Klay Thompson

The Splash Brothers are widely regarded as the greatest shooting backcourt of all time. There’s no debating that but what makes them greatest period is all the accolades between the two. Steph Curry is a two time MVP, multiple time scoring champion and single handley revolitonzied the game of basketball. Klay is the epitome of a quintessential ‘3 & D wing’ with the range and shooting touch that rivals his backcourt mate. 5 championships and a 73-9 season earns them this spot without question.
