Despite facing some health complications earlier this year, Jamie Foxx is set to hit the big screen once again in his second on-screen release in 2023, the first being July’s Netflix release They Cloned Tyrone. The acclaimed actor will portray a lawyer alongside film veteran Tommy Lee Jones in Amazon Prime's forthcoming film The Burial. The story follows personal injury lawyer Willie E. Gary as he attempts to vehemently defend funeral home owner Jeremiah Joseph O’Keefe in a legal dispute. This film is an adaptation of Johnathan Harr's 1999 New Yorker article of the same name.

The drama-comedy also stars Jurnee Smollet as the opposing lawyer in the courtroom.  A trailer for the film released Thursday, giving fans a chance to see Foxx’s portrayal of a charismatic lawyer, who has yet to lose a case, while also giving us a glimpse at his unique bond between Jones as the two unravel corporate corruption and racial injustice.

The real Willie Gary has a huge, larger-than-life personality, and I knew Jamie had the talent, charisma, and range to bring this complex and multi-faceted persona to the screen.

The 55 year old actor has since made a full recovery and has stated that he is “feeling like himself” again.

He took to social media to post an update.

The Burial is set to premiere in select theaters on October 6th before releasing on Prime Video on October 13th. Produced by a stellar team of industry vets with a talented cast, The Burial is primed to be an inspirational cinematic experience this fall.
