Widely renowned as one of the greatest actors of his generation, Samuel L. Jackson is teaming up with comedy legend Kevin Hart to continue his rise in television with Peacock’s new true crime series Fright Night: The Million Dollar Heist. Sources say the show was green-lit in December with Hart tabbed as the lead.
Sources say Jackson will star as the notorious gangster Frank Moten, who at the time was described as the “Black Godfather” by New York newspapers.
Film Director Will Packer is set to executive produce alongside Hart, with the series being based off of Packer’s self-produced podcast Fight Night.

The limited series is based in Atlanta during the 1970s. According to the show's official description, it will tell “the infamous story of how an armed robbery during the night of Muhammad Ali’s historic 1970 comeback fight changed not only one man’s life but an entire city’s destiny.”
The official podcast launched in 2020 and consists of 10 episodes.
Below is a detailed description of the storyline from one of its episodes.
"On October 26, 1970, Muhhammad Ali triumphantly returned to the world of boxing in Atlanta, Georgia. But every national front-page headline the next morning featured the story of one of the biggest heists in history. At the center of it all – a hustler named ‘Chicken Man.’ Fans arrived in Rolls Royces delivered from New York City. Adorned in vibrant fur coats and dripping with diamonds, they grabbed engraved invitations then strutted into the arena. The sold-out crowd stood and cheered when the first-round bell rang, minus two empty seats. After the fight, many celebrating the victory, including top black mafia leaders, headed to Chicken Man’s house with invitation in hand. Instead of women and wine greeting them at the front door, each walked into the barrel of a sawed-off shotgun. On FIGHT NIGHT, J.D. Hudson, one of the first black detectives in Atlanta’s desegregated police force helped lead Muhammed Ali into the ring. The next day, he was assigned to the robbery by the chief of police. When asked by a journalist years later, ‘When did the investigation end?’ J.D. summed it up perfectly, ‘When everybody was dead."
Writer Shaye Ogbonna will serve as creator and showrunner, with contributions from Kevin Hart’s Hartbeat and Packer’s Will Packer Media. The show’s premiere date will be announced at a later date.

On December 18th, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky graced Hollywood's Neue House to celebrate Rihanna's latest sneaker collaboration with Puma, the Creeper Phatty as part of the FENTY x PUMA exclusive line. Rihanna provided creative direction and design for this line, pushing the boundaries of both fashion and sport since its inception in 2015.

As guests entered the venue, they were met with a mirrored wall illuminated by green neon lights spelling out Creeper Phatty. Inside, the atmosphere resembled an adult arcade, featuring claw machines offering a chance to win a pair of the new kicks, step mania, and a professional photo opp in front of the iconic Fenty x Puma shoe display. The bar served refreshing cocktails named to match the celebration: "Creeper Phatty" for tequila lovers, "The Outcast" for vodka enthusiasts, and the "Baby Phatty" mocktail for those in a dry December. Female DJs curated the playlist, ensuring the crowd stayed lit—it was truly a memorable experience.
Numerous celebrities and influencers showed their support, including comedian Affion Crockett, model Slick Woods, actor Evan Ross, and Jason Lee. A$AP Rocky stood by, supporting his "Good Girl Gone Bad" as she engaged with the media and posed for pictures.
Rihanna, the style icon herself, accessorized her outfit with purple and red Creeper Phatty sneakers. She sported a lavender fur coat, a leather purple jacket underneath, slouchy blue jeans, and a white t-shirt. Completing her look, Rihanna styled her hair in a honey-blonde fashion, complemented by a striking red and purple cosmetic palette. Notably, Rihanna intentionally introduced kid sizes in this new sneaker line so that her sons could participate in the world of fashion their parents have shaped.

A GRAMMY Salute to 50 Years of Hip-Hop almost pulled off the seemingly impossible task of commemorating a five-decade history without noticeably leaving anything out. The lineup, which included rap acts from almost every region, era, and subgenre, succeeded in doing so. The scene was set for hundreds of Hip-Hop fans to come together in celebration of the culture back in November. At the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California, patrons enjoyed food trucks and on-site bars under the moonlight before the show began.
The world was able to enjoy the show as Hip-hop icons were honored by CBS and the Recording Academy®TM last night on CBS Presents "A GRAMMY SALUTE TO 50 YEARS OF HIP-HOP," which aired on the CBS Television Network and now streaming on Paramount+. The live concert special highlighted and commemorated the genre's rich cultural heritage and significant global influence.

LL Cool J hosted the event, which featured performances by Regina Hall and Seth Rogan. Queen Latifah sang a song honoring the women of hip-hop alongside J.J. Fad, MC Lyte, Roxanne Shanté, Latto, Remy Ma, and other artists. Other jams featured the best of the South (Boosie Badazz, Three 6 Mafia, GloRilla, T.I.), and the West Coast (DJ Quik, E-40, Too $hort, YG, DJ Mustard, Warren G, Lady of Rage, Roddy Ricch). Public Enemy, Black Thought, Digable Planets, Black Sheep, De La Soul, Common, Arrested Development (who took home the 1993 Best New Artist Grammy in the hip-hop category), and a host of other artists performed throughout the night.
Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff, who became the first to win a Grammy for "Best Rap Performance" in 1989 for their song "Parents Just Don't Understand," were a noteworthy highlight of the evening. Exactly one year later, the pair made history as the first hip-hop group to perform on the Grammy stage. Throughout the show, Smith thanked the other rappers who had helped them the year before and were instrumental in getting them the opportunity to perform on such a grand stage. His remarks came before D.J. Jazzy Jeff launched into a performance of "I Think I Can Beat Mike Tyson."

A segment of the show that Jennifer Hudson referred to as a tribute to the idea that "Hip-Hop is freedom" takes place during additional performances. With the Jungle Brothers, Kool DJ Red Alert, Common, Queen Latifah, Arrested Development, Talib Kweli, De La Soul, and The Pharcyde shining on the library-themed stage, a celebration of the Native Tongues collective got underway.
DJ D Nice and Doug E. Fresh honored musicians who had passed away by performing together to inspire despite the depressing occasion.
Doug E. Fresh shouted, "Make some noise if you're happy to be alive. "Stand up and honor those who are not present out of respect for them. As a celebration rather than a memorial. We're going to get started and do our thing.”
Performers return to the stage to close out the Grammy’s Salute to 50 Years of Hip-Hop celebration.

To close the show the artists returned to the stage where they embraced, rapped, and danced as part of a movement that went beyond music. If you missed it last night, you can still check out the show right now on Paramount+.

Notable figures such as Olympic Gold Medalist Allyson Felix, actress Danielle Brooks from Color Purple, director Ava DuVernay from Origin, and musician Saweetie graced the stage.
The day unfolded with an atmosphere of positivity and resilience, offering attendees valuable insights from various panels. Among them, three panels stood out the most.

In the Actress Spotlight panel, Andi Ortiz engaged in a candid conversation with actress Danielle Brooks. Danielle shared her journey to fame with transparency, revealing how it demanded over 15 years of resilience. She reflected on the challenges faced post-graduation and numerous auditions, where rejections seemed endless. Despite moments of wanting to give up, her perseverance led her from The Color Purple on Broadway to The Color Purple on the big screen.
“At the end, of the day I had to surrender to what was going to be for me. I had to trust that if God has promised me something I do not have to rush the fulfillment of that promise.”

Shifting the focus to women in sports, 3x WNBA champion Candace Parker and 7x Olympic gold medalist Allyson Felix discussed the delicate balance of home and athletic life. Addressing the prevalent misconception that being a mother and an athlete is incompatible, both women shattered this stereotype. Candice emphasized the power of being unapologetic and saying 'no' during her experience as a mom and basketball player, highlighting how it enabled her to create balance.
“I remember being more afraid of telling people and telling my partner than raising my child and what you should be focused on. Now having other mothers that have been athletes that have gone through similar experiences, we’re making it better for our daughter.”

In the Filmmaker Spotlight, Sharon Waxman, CEO of The Wrap, engaged in a compelling conversation with the NAACP Image Award-winning writer and producer, Ava DuVernay. Ava shared insights into the resilience required to bring the film from concept to the big screen, overcoming skepticism about adapting Isabel Wilkerson's book Caste. Undeterred, Ava embraced the challenge, from securing film financing from a philanthropist to shooting in three countries in just seven days, demonstrating her unwavering determination to bring this idea to life. Origin is scheduled to premiere exclusively in LA and NY starting December 8th, before its worldwide theatrical release on January 19th, 2024.
“The idea of that kind of excited me. To do something that everyone said I couldn’t do.”

Ending the evening on a high note, Saweetie, the Icy Girl herself, shared her journey from a USC student to a content queen and platinum-selling rapper with her college professor. Despite facing numerous trials, her resilience propelled her to success. Beyond the music scene, Saweetie's true passion lies in philanthropy, evident through the Icy Baby Foundation, a non-profit she co-founded with her grandmother. This foundation is dedicated to providing financial literacy education to children in underserved communities. Inspired by her grandmother's altruism, Saweetie continues to make a positive impact on society through her commitment to giving back.
“If it was taught as much as it should be financial literacy would feel like second nature and not like a chore.”
TheWrap's Power Women Summit not only celebrated the accomplishments of resilient women but also provided a platform for valuable discussions and insights. As we reflect on the day's powerful narratives and inspiring moments, it's clear that resilience is a force that transcends boundaries and propels women forward in their diverse fields, leaving an indelible mark on the landscape of entertainment and media.

One of the most brilliant comedic minds of this generation, Dave Chappelle, will release a brand new stand up comedy special on New Year’s Eve to continue a string of a strong run of specials for the streaming service. The news was announced on “X”, formerly known as Twitter, with the streaming giant’s official “Netflix Is A Joke” account posting a short teaser clip with the caption: “Dave Chappelle’s latest comedy special will launch globally on Netflix, December 31st.”

The teaser video shows his iconic “C” logo lit up with neon lighting, with Dave Chappelle’s voice thanking a roaring crowd in the background. The video is capped off with famed actor Morgan Freeman stating proudly, “He’s back, folks!” The phrase “Dave Is Back” appears followed by the release date.

Though untitled, this latest special will be Dave’s seventh with Netflix. A successful run that began in 2017 when he released four specials that year. The Age of Spin, Deep in the Heart of Texas, Equanimity and The Bird Revelation were then followed by Sticks and Stones in 2019 and The Closer in 2021. The latter special gained Chappelle a Grammy for Best Comedy Album earlier this year.
The Closer also landed the hot-button funny man in a bit of a controversy with members of the LGBTQ+ community and the many claiming that the comedian's jokes were transphobic. Netflix continued to stand behind Dave claiming that the special was never meant to cause harm.
“With ‘The Closer,’ we understand that the concern is not about offensive-to-some content but titles which could increase real world harm. Last year, we heard similar concerns about 365 Days and violence against women. While some employees disagree, we have a strong belief that content on screen doesn’t directly translate to real-world harm.”
It remains to be seen when and where the special was shot. Dave has most recently been touring the country as a part of this fall’s Dave Chappelle Live comedy tour.

Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan set for 'I Am Legend' sequel
Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan set to star in I Am Legend 2, a sequel promising a new take on the original's alternate ending and a storyline set decades after the 2007 blockbuster. We discuss it here!

According to reports, Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan is set to star in I Am Legend 2 the official sequel to the hit film I Am Legend that grossed over $585 million dollars at the box office in 2007.
It hasn’t been officially announced what role the Creed and Black Panther star Jordan will portray in the film but it has been confirmed he will sit in the producer’s chair.
If you can recall, Smith played the role of Dr. Robert Neville: a post-apocalyptic survivor that hadn’t turned into seemingly mindless vampiric mutants known as “Darkseekers”. However, Neville dies at the end of the film’s original theatrical cut. Initially the Academy Award winning actor had no interest in a sequel, but changed his mind after becoming aware of Michael’s vision.
“The idea came up. I can’t talk about it yet. But it’s a really, really cool concept, and he was a part of creating the idea. So it was one of those ones I was gonna leave alone, and then I heard the idea. I was like, ‘That might work. I think we can do that.”
Will Smith acting in blockbuster hit I Am Legend in 2007.
The 55-year-old mega star was also kind enough to share an update on the Jordan-assisted film at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia last year.
“The script just came in… I’m probably giving away too much information. You have to be a real ‘I Am Legend’ buff, but in the first one, in the theatrical version, my character died. But for the DVD, there was an alternate version of the ending of the movie where my character lived.”
Despite having interest in creating the film for some time, Warner Bros. hadn’t officially confirmed the production of the film until March of this year. Producer and writer of the film Akiva Goldsman, teased the synopsis of the film a month prior in an interview saying the sequel would take place “decades” after the 2007 movie. Goldsman also shared that the sequel would stick to the original novel where there is an alternate ending.
In an alternate ending made for DVD, Neville makes a peace offering with the Darkseekers by turning over a female mutant that he used as an experiment, realizing he had become a monster to them. Afterwards he leaves New York with Anna and Ethan in search of other survivors instead of dying. However, the novel ends with Dr. Neville accepting that the Darkseekers have created their own society and humanity is extinct.
Here you can watch the DVD alternate ending for the original film below.

Five Years Later: Remembering Queen and Slim
Five years have passed since Lena Waithe's highly anticipated movie, Queen & Slim, was released. We celebrate it here!
By: Deion Higgins
Five years have passed since Lena Waithe's highly anticipated movie, Queen & Slim, was released. Eager to support a black film, I anticipated a narrative of black survival, prepared for my emotions to be stirred. Cinematically, Queen and Slim stands out as one of the best black films I've seen in years. The soft tone and the beautiful, dark, rich skin were everything you'd want in a black-led film, featuring protagonists with dark skin. I watched as Queen and Slim embarked on their first date, engaged in cute banter at a black-owned dinner, discussing John Coltrane's In a Sentimental Mood in the car, and having passionate arguments over the phone. The interaction with the police, as hinted in the trailer, set the stage for what we expected, but it was the unexpected turn that shifted this movie from beautiful to turmoil.
The actions taken by Queen and Slim after they killed a racist cop, responsible for the deaths of two other black people that year, were questionable and, even for a movie, unrealistic. What we thought would be a beautiful rom-com gone wrong turned into a complete mess. Nevertheless, the film leaves a lasting imprint on the minds of BIPOC movie lovers. The way Queen and Slim loved each other through the trauma was powerful. Lines like "I'm never letting your hand go" or "If I could kiss all of your scars to let you know that you are loved I would" added depth. Did it have to be another trauma movie? I would have preferred a black version of The Vow if anything.
In all honesty, I found the movie amazing; however, I remain an emotional mess. While I understand these are fictional characters, the ending felt like reliving a George Floyd video. My stomach formed knots, and my body mourned as if someone I knew had died. Movies are for escaping reality, and even in this case, we don't need an exact replica of reality. We wanted Slim (Daniel Kaluuya) and Queen (Jodie Turner-Smith) to make it, to witness the impossible happen. Unfortunately, we didn't get that.
Why couldn't they hold on to their lives? Did we need to see the bullets enter their bodies? Is there a better way to employ our death, or just not have us die altogether? Are we not worthy of life in our own fictional stories? Today, five years later, we remember what could have been. To Queen and Slim.

Sheryl Lee Ralph poses at Mrs. Claus at the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade.

As the Emmy Award-winning Abbott Elementary star, Sheryl Lee Ralph, made history as the first Black celebrity Mrs. Claus to appear on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade’s Final float. The annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade is an iconic staple of American tradition and is one of the largest celebrated parades in the US. I personally enjoy seeing the many floats and balloons depicting some of our favorite cartoon characters, while enjoying the numerous musical performances every year. During the 97th edition of the event, we were able to witness a bit of history.
One of the original broadway Dreamgirls, Ralph, who is also known for her role as Dee Mitchell in the hit 90s sitcom Moesha, first teased her appearance on the popular social media site “X” (formally known as twitter).
Ralph surprised many adoring fans as she made her special appearance donning a festive green coat, portraying the popular Mrs. Claus character. Her admirers were quick to take to social media to show their adulation.

“I am so honored to have been asked by Macy’s to be their first celebrity Mrs. Claus for this year’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! It’s such a festive and enjoyable role, bringing warmth and joy to the start of the holiday season. I get to spread love and embody the spirit of giving. The perfect role for me!”
The Waterbury native, who is also married to Pennsylvania State Senator Vincent Hughes, won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series in 2022 for her portrayal of Philadelphia public school teacher Barbara Howard in Abbot Elementary. She also won the Critics Choice Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for the role in 2023.
Her appearance was a much needed appearance for the annual event. They couldn’t have chosen a more beautiful individual inside and out to encapsulate the iconic character.

Jaleel White, most notably known for his iconic role in the critically acclaimed sitcom Family Matters, has officially reprised his role as the brilliant but accident-prone super genius in an upcoming animated film, Urkel Saves Santa: the Movie. We discuss it here!
By: Joshua Martin
If you missed hearing, 'Did I do That?' you're in luck! Steve Urkel is back and just in time for the holidays. Jaleel White, most notably known for his iconic role in the critically acclaimed sitcom Family Matters, has officially reprised his role as the brilliant but accident-prone super genius in an upcoming animated film, Urkel Saves Santa: the Movie.

After ruining a Christmas celebration where he embarrasses the department store Santa at the local shopping mall, Urkel decides to create a device that helps people spread the holiday spirit. Hoping to make things right, in typical Urkel fashion, things inevitably go horribly wrong. Using his big brain and an even bigger heart, it's up to Steve to help the city rediscover its holiday spirit.
Urkel Saves Santa: The Movie | Official Trailer
“I’m showing everybody I got what it takes; It’s not the holiday spirit without making mistakes,” sings Urkel in the two-minute trailer, while also reciting his signature tagline, “Did I do that?”
Along with White, the film also stars the voices of Nicole Byer, Roy Wood Jr., and Kym Whitley, with comedian and writer Wyatt Cenac credited with writing the screenplay. The Urkel Saves Santa film was one of six from Warner Bros. set to premiere on HBO MAX but was briefly shelved when the streamer transitioned to MAX. The film is currently streaming on demand.

White isn’t the only Family Matters cast member bringing some cheer to the holiday season. Kellie Shanygne Williams and JoMarie Payton reunited for A Family Matters Christmas, but the film has nothing to do with the 90s sitcom Family Matters. The movie, however, focuses on three siblings in a newly blended family who get to experience life in each other’s shoes.
“Working with JoMarie again is such a pleasure, and I could not wait to rekindle the spark and warmth that millions have come to love.”
Shanygne Williams A Family Matters Christmas is also now available on demand. Be sure to check it out with your family this holiday season."

Rap Sh!t is a story about the fictitious lifestyles and musical adventures of Shawna Clark (Aida Osman) and Mia Knight (KaMillion). Upon entry, guests hit the blue carpet and the photo booth to create memorable content for their socials and mingled with other guests as they arrived. The space was dimly lit and showcased the infamous old-school car that 'Chasity' (Jonica Booth) drives in the series. The jumbo screens in both rooms displayed a slideshow with pictures of all the artists featured on Rap Sh!t: The Mixtape. Complimentary cocktails, named after some of the tracks like We Live, Call Me Daddy, Going On A Drill, Run It Up, and City 2 City, got the guests grooving to the tunes of the tape.
Before the screening began, showrunner Syreeta Singleton expressed her excitement for the new season in her opening statements, and the lights dimmed for showtime. The first two episodes are a complete plot twist! Anything you assumed would happen from watching the last episode of Season 1 is probably WRONG. As Mia and Shawna take their talents on tour the real rollercoaster begins!
After the screening, it was time to enjoy performances from some of the artists who contributed to the musical vibes of the new season.

We experienced performances from Rico Nasty, Omeretta The Great, Guapdad 4000, Southside Yoko, Cam and China, ThankGod4Cody, and Enchanting. The energy in the building was insane as the eclectic artists poured their hearts and personalities into their performances. Although Issa Rae is known for paying homage to artists who are on the rise, Rap Sh!t: The Mixtape has some big mainstream names attached to it as well, such as Sexxy Red, Rico Nasty, Guapdad 4000, Slimeroni, and Aleza. Each song has a different vibe and style that gives the audience insight into some of the emotions and experiences they can expect in the new season.

The series has always made excellent use of music, just like Rae's previous smash-hit show Insecure did. Rap SH!T's soundtrack, Rap SH!T: The Mixtape (Soundtrack from the Max Original series, S2), is just as hot as you would expect. Check it out right now on all streaming platforms I guarantee that you will find your new anthem. Be sure to also tune in to the return of Rap Sh!t to MAX on November 9th to see what songs will make it to Season 2 Episode 1.

Run The World faces cancellation backlash as Starz axes show after second season, amid controversies and Writers Guild strike. We discuss it here!
By: Camille Shanklin
After just two seasons, Starz has decided to pull the plug on Run the World, leaving fans of the show both upset and concerned. The news of the cancellation has sparked a wave of backlash and questioning within the fan community. On social media platforms like Twitter/X, the hashtag #CancelStarz has been trending as fans voice their displeasure.
Numerous tweets have poured in, expressing frustration and disappointment with Starz's decision. One Twitter/X user lamented, "I hate they canceled Run the World, maybe BET can pick it up." Another vented, "Fk @STARZ and the set they claim!!! Canceling #RunTheWorld and #BlindSpotting🤬🤬🤬 Actual quality shows🙄 I hope those yt Heelz fans make you f*kers suffer!"
Run the World is a series that boasts a full African American cast and revolves around the lives of four women navigating the challenges and adventures of Harlem, New York. The show garnered a dedicated fanbase during its brief run, making its cancellation all the more disheartening for those who enjoyed its representation and storytelling.
The show has already lost one of its stars. According to TVLine, Andrea Bourdeaux, who played Ella in the first season of Run the World, was fired for failing to comply with the production's COVID-19 vaccine mandate, as reported by Deadline. According to Andrea Bourdeaux Instagram she explained briefly in a caption on why she left the show. “I would have loved to continue to grow with this delightful character and having to come to terms with this sharp turn in my life, my dream, and career these past several weeks has been heartbreaking beyond words. Lionsgate made no efforts to find a workable solution.”
The show is now heading for a grand exit, largely due to the Sag-Aftra Writers Guild strike. Unfortunately, networks have not been providing their writers with fair pay, resulting in the cancellation of many shows and episodes. With the writers' strike coming to an end, we hope the show will pick up for a new season. How do you feel about the show being canceled?

8-Mile Actor Nashawn Breedlove Passes Away At 46
On Tuesday, September 26, 2023, Actor and artist Nashawn Breedlove passed away in his sleep at the age of 46. We discuss it here!
Eminem and ‘Lotto’ go head to head in rap battle in 2002 file 8-Mile.
By: Vince Wilson
On Tuesday, September 26, 2023, Actor and artist Nashawn Breedlove passed away in his sleep at the age of 46. Best known for playing Lotto, one of the henchmen for the Free World in the 2002 film 8 Mile, Breedlove’s mother Patricia gave notice of her son’s death with a heartfelt message on Facebook.
Nashawn Breedlove’s character Lotto is used in the most climatic part of the film, contrary to his crew leader played by Anthony Mackie, who has more lines but is less memorable. Breedlove turned this character into a household name with minimal lines but a stellar performance.
Lotto - 8 Mile
Breedlove's passing leaves a heavy heart for many who recognize 8 Mile as arguably the greatest hip-hop movie of all time and undoubtedly of the 21st century. What’s noted particularly about the character Lotto and what many fans have debated for the past twenty years is if Lotto really beat B-Rabbit in the battle. I remember seeing the scene as a kid and having the same feeling, Lotto won. He was ferocious, vicious, and precise with his attacks on the Great White Hope, opening his battle with a crazy punchline.
“I spit a racial slur Honkey, sue me! This shit is a Horror flick, but the Black guy doesn’t die in this movie!”
The theater went wild as Lotto continued to pour ether into B-rabbit's soul with his bars. Eminem’s character comes back strong and through a close vote gets the W in the film. Although in reality, it was up for grabs as Breedlove provided the best and most memorable battle in the film. 8 Mile went on to win an Oscar and grossed over $250,000,000 worldwide.
Breedlove didn't capitalize on that success as he never made another appearance in a film. As far as music is concerned, he released a few songs sporadically under the name OX but no major movement came with the success of the film. Regardless of the amount of work he did on the big screen or in the studio, he is cemented in the culture forever, creating one of the most impactful characters in one of the most impactful films of a generation.
Rest Easy Nashawn Breedlove. You won.
