Buried Beneath the Beef: Kendrick vs. Drake Beef Opens Up Discussions Behind Stereotypes
The rivalry between Drake and Kendrick Lamar opens up the discussion about misogyny and sexism that permeate hip-hop culture. We discuss it here!
Kendrick Lamar and Drake Ignite the Hip-Hop world with rap feud
By: Jamila Gomez
The rivalry between Drake and Kendrick Lamar has been a longstanding topic within the realm of hip-hop, captivating fans and critics alike. While much of the discourse surrounding their feud often centers on lyrical prowess, artistic vision, and cultural impact, there's an underlying narrative that often goes overlooked—the role of Black women's trauma.
Both Drake and Kendrick Lamar have risen to prominence within the music industry, garnering accolades and acclaim for their respective bodies of work. However, their approaches to addressing issues of race, identity, and gender have been markedly different, and it's within this divergence that Black women's trauma becomes a focal point.
Drake, known for his introspective lyrics and melodic style, has often been criticized for his portrayal of women in his music. While he's undeniably talented and has produced numerous hits, his songs have frequently been criticized for perpetuating stereotypes and objectifying women. From references to "side chicks" to lyrics that depict women as disposable conquests, Drake's music has been called out for its problematic portrayal of female relationships.
On the other hand, Kendrick Lamar has earned praise for his socially conscious lyrics and unapologetic exploration of Black identity. His albums, such as "good kid, m.A.A.d city" and "To Pimp a Butterfly," delve into themes of systemic oppression, racial injustice, and the complexities of growing up Black in America. However, even within Lamar's body of work, there have been moments where his portrayal of women has been called into question, with critics highlighting instances of misogyny and sexism in his lyrics.
At the heart of the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar beef lies a broader conversation about the intersectionality of race and gender. Black women, who occupy a unique position at the nexus of multiple forms of oppression, often find themselves marginalized and overlooked in discussions about hip-hop culture. Their experiences of trauma, whether it be from systemic racism, misogynoir, or sexual violence, are often silenced or dismissed in favor of centering the narratives of Black men.
In the context of the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar beef, Black women's trauma becomes a battleground upon which their respective fan bases vie for dominance. While some may argue that Drake's music perpetuates harmful stereotypes and reinforces patriarchal norms, others may point to Kendrick Lamar's lyrics as a more authentic reflection of the Black experience. In either case, it's Black women who bear the brunt of the trauma, forced to navigate a landscape where their voices are often drowned out by the cacophony of male egos.
As the feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar continues to play out in the public eye, it's imperative that we center the experiences of Black women and acknowledge the ways in which their trauma shapes and informs the broader cultural conversation. Only by confronting the misogyny and sexism that permeate hip-hop culture can we begin to create a more inclusive and equitable space for all voices to be heard.

The year is just beginning and 21 Savage is coming out with a bang. On Monday, 21 Savage revealed plans for a biographical movie titled American Dream: The 21 Savage Story, featuring Donald Glover and Caleb McLaughlin. This is pretty dope as a young artist to tell his story to the world.

21 Savage To Perform In London For The First Time After Finally Receiving His Green Card

After a well-publicized battle with immigration, 21 Savage is making headlines again as he plans to return to his native land London for an international tour. This exciting news follows the announcement from his immigration attorney that 21 Savage has officially become a U.S. citizen.
“She’yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph followed all applicable Immigration laws since his initial detention by ICE. His immigration court proceedings have now been terminated and he is a lawful permanent resident of the United States with the freedom to travel internationally.”
Born as Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph in the United Kingdom, the 30-year-old rapper legally immigrated to the United States at a young age. However, his journey took an unexpected turn in 2019 when he was arrested and detained by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Atlanta during what was described as a "targeted operation with federal and local law enforcement partners." The root of the 2019 incident can be traced back to a 2005 visa that had expired after just one year.
“The worst thing was sitting in there not knowing what was going to happen, or when it was going to happen. Whenever I went to jail before, it was, ‘You’re being charged with this and going to court on this date.’ But immigration ain’t like that. You’re just being held.”
The aftermath of his arrest plunged 21 Savage into a long public legal battle to remain in the United States and avoid deportation. As of April, his immigration status remained in limbo due to pending criminal charges in Georgia.
Fast forward to October, and the status of 21 Savage's citizenship woes appears to have been revealed in Drake's track 8 AM in Charlotte, where the Toronto-born rapper raps, "Savage got a green card straight out of the consulate/Where I go, you go, brother, we Yugoslavian." Notably, the two artists are currently wrapping up their It's All A Blur North American Tour. This tour had a surprising twist this past August when 21 Savage couldn't enter Canada due to his ongoing immigration issues. Headlining artists Travis Scott and J. Cole stepped in as surprise guests at the Vancouver and Montreal concerts, respectively.
21 Savage himself took to Instagram to share his excitement about his upcoming return to London. He posted a video entitled "London I'm Coming Home," which features footage of his childhood memories in London set to Skylar Grey's Coming Home. This moment is pivotal for the superstar rapper as he prepares to perform in London for the first time in his career.
In reflecting on his immigration journey, 21 Savage has noted that the visa application process can be discouraging for many immigrants who lack proper documentation, as it can "hang over your head forever."
According to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) website, obtaining a visa is a lengthy and challenging process for individuals initially immigrating to the United States. It involves multiple steps before a visa or green card is issued. In the case of the British rapper, he was eligible for an adjustment of status, a process that allows individuals to apply for lawful permanent resident status (also known as applying for a green card) while they are present in the United States, without having to return to their home country to complete visa processing.
21 Savage's journey from his early immigration challenges to his current status as a U.S. citizen and his plans to return to London for an international tour is a remarkable story of perseverance and achievement. It sheds light on the complexities of the immigration system and the impact it can have on individuals' lives and careers. As fans eagerly await his London performance, the rapper's journey continues to captivate and inspire.

Black Music icons took center stage at the annual Recording Academy Honors hosted by the Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective in celebration of this year’s Grammy Awards at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles. Spearheaded by CEO Harvey Mason Jr, The Black Music Collective was formed in 2020 by prominent industry leaders to promote Black representation and inclusion.
Hip Hop legend Lil Wayne took home the Recording Academy’s Global Impact Award, which was affectionately renamed the ‘Dr. Dre Impact Global Award’ in honor of the West Coast music legend.
During his acceptance speech, Wayne reflected on his career in the music industry and the adversity he faced becoming a success hailing from Louisiana.
“I don’t get honored. Where I’m from, New Orleans, you’re not supposed to do this.”
Preceded by emotional video tributes by Drake and the new Colorado head football coach Deion Sanders, the night of celebrations continued for Wayne as his peers, 2Chainz and Tyga, performed some of Wayne’s greatest hits on a night where the past, present and future of Black music were being honored.
Followed by a lively performance by West Coast legend Snoop Dogg, Ty Dolla Sign, and Kurupt. During his speech, Dr Dre. spoke about his hip hop origins and how music changed his life.
“The birth of hip-hop completely changed the course of my life. Just imagine where a lot of Black men, including myself, would be without hip-hop. I was in junior high school when I had ever heard hip-hop for the first time. I heard mixing and scratching, I couldn’t get enough of that sound. And once I got my hands on the turntables, I knew I had found my wings and I was determined to know how to fly.”
Before being introduced by longtime manager Mona Scott-Young and Ciara, Elliott was praised by super producer Timbaland and fellow singer, rapper Lizzo with heartfelt video tributes. Emotionally herself, Missy exclaimed how important this award means to her.
“People don’t understand that this is a Global Impact Award. It’s not just neighborhood, it’s global. So it hits different when you stand up here, knowing that when you get something like this, you gotta know that you’ve been through a lot.”
She also gave a powerful tribute to fellow winner, Epic Records CEO Sylvia Rhone. Later, Swiss Beatz commanded a packed house to give “Sylvia Rhone the Great” a standing ovation before presenting her with the Global Impact award.
“It’s been a lot of years for me in hip-hop, and it’s even more special to me amongst this elite group of artists with Dr. Dre, Missy Elliott, Lil Wayne, each of whom I’ve had the privilege of working with throughout my career.”
Additional musical acts included Chloe Bailey, Busta Rhymes, and Tweet.

It’s been 2 years since Jae Breeze dropped his last album, Crxwn, and early July since the release of his single, “A Cozy Breeze (Freestyle)” that featured fellow NC rapper Josh Cozy, and Jae Breeze has a lot more in store for 2023. Jae Breeze is set to release his new project Sincerely, Breeze on January 6, 2023. Jae has a sound that reminds you of Mr. OVO himself, Drake, a talent that needs to be heard for sure.

Sincerely, Breeze features 8 tracks with great features from Alvaro Amour, Niko Noir, TechSoLo, and Josh Cozy. There is no misses on this project as it will have you on a rollercoaster of feelings to express yourself to a certain someone. New Music: 5 Hip Hop Albums To Look Out For This July
July is set to be a great month with some dope hip hop releases on the way! Here are 5 albums dropping this month you should be looking out for!
Snoh Aalegra and G Herbo With New July Albums Dropping
By: Cory Utsey
June was an amazing month for music. From albums alone, we got an amazing amount of range from Tyler, the Creator’s “CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST”, H.E.R’s “Back Of My Mind”, Doja Cat’s “Planet Her” and even Justine Skye’s “Space & Time”. In regards to singles, Megan Thee Stallion’s “Thot Sh*t” and Jazmine Sullivan’s “Tragic” allowed us to go from screaming “We Outside!” to reflecting on time that needs to be reclaimed.
With all of this in mind, June’s releases have quite the competition. However, July started off with “Wasting Time”, a collaboration between Brent Faiyaz and Drake that was produced by The Neptunes, so it already seems as though this month will have some great contenders.
Here are five album releases to look out for this July.
G Herbo, “25” - July 2
Kicking off the first “New Music Friday” of the month is G Herbo with the release of his LP “25”. Herbo told Complex that the project, pronounced as “Two Five”, celebrates both his age and the significance of the resultant of “2+5”; he states that seven signifies “the guardian”. “25” also pays homage to the people in his life who did not make it to 25, such as his brother and a close friend. The 19-track project, which features artists such as Gunna, 21 Savage and Polo G, comes over a year after “PTSD”.
Amorphous, “Things Take Shape” - July 7
Amorphous, a DJ and producer known on social media for creating amazing mash-ups, will be releasing his debut EP on July 7 called “Things Take Shape”. He first went viral for his mash-up of Rihanna’s “Kiss It Better” and Luther Vandross’s “Never Too Much” in late 2020. The accolades from this mix landed him a call from Fat Joe, who vied to use the mix for a song. The song, called “Sunshine” came out in January and features DJ Khaled. Although the EP is not slated to come out until the seventh, two tracks (“Back Together” featuring Kehlani and “Finally (Cannot Hide It) with Kelly Rowland and Cece Piston) are already out.
Snoh Aalegra, “TEMPORARY HIGHS IN THE VIOLET SKIES” - July 9
Smooth and soulful singer Snoh Aalegra announced on June 7 via Instagram that she would be releasing a new album, “TEMPORARY HIGHS IN THE VIOLET SKIES”. On June 16, she released one track from the album, called “LOST YOU”. This album comes a year after the release of the single “DYING 4 YOUR LOVE” (which will be featured on this upcoming album), and three years after her second studio album, “Ugh, Those Feels Again”.
WILLOW, “lately I feel EVERYTHING” - July 16
Willow Smith constantly gives Black alternative-music lovers something to rock to, and it seems as though lovers of that genre will be getting more of the sort on July 16. She released two singles already: “t r a n s p a r e n t s o u l” featuring Travis Barker in April and “Lipstick” in June, Known for her creative, experimental style, this album comes a little over a year after the release of “THE ANXIETY”, a collaborative project with Tyler Cole and THE ANXIETY.
Pop Smoke, “Pop Smoke” - July 16
Gracing the world with another posthumous album, Pop Smoke’s team announced they would be releasing the self-titled album on July 16. This is the second posthumous album to be released on his behalf, with the first one (“Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon”) having been released in July 2020 with much critical acclaim. The Woo’s fans are hopeful that this will be an amazing project.

A Look Into Hip Hop's Most Anticipated Artists And Projects In 2021
2021 is gearing up to be another dope year for Hip Hop releases. We take a look at some of Hip Hop’s most anticipated artists and projects for 2021!
By: James Teague
As we’re gearing up for an amazing new year (and yes it’s still going to be a great year regardless of everything covid-19 related), more new music is on the horizon for this new year to continue serving as our life soundtrack for the year. Even though there were some great gems that dropped last year, music 2020 was said to not really have a lot of impact due to the world getting altered because of COVID-19.
With everything going on whether it was with COVID, the presidential election, or the protests/riots that were all going on in America, I found lots of music lovers were not necessarily keeping up with all the latest new music that released each and every week. Hence why some of the albums released that I thought were going to do well actually didn't due to COVID-19. Luckily this year is a fresh start and we’re starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel with this entire living situation. Here are some of my most anticipated artists that I'm looking forward to releasing new music this year.
TDE
The current Best Rap Label Top Dawg Entertainment has had a very quiet 2020 for the most part but it appears since SZA dropped her singles, the label is getting up for another busy year. It wouldn't feel right for me if i did each artist alone so i decided to do the entire roster in its entirety in this section.
KENDRICK LAMAR - Between the numerous rumors surrounding his upcoming album, him moving in silence for the entire year and only popping out to the public on several occasions, there is no telling of what's going to happen with this next Kendrick album. What we can all say is that a lot has gone on since his last album DAMN, which was released in 2017, and everybody is wondering what he has to say for this next go round. This is one of the reasons why I'm going to always be excited for a new Kendrick release.
SZA - Just like Kendrick, SZA has also been under radar since her debut album CTRL and pops out seldomly. Her two brand new singles “Hit Different” and “Good Day” have me ready and anxious for SZA’s upcoming album. The people have been very very anxious for SZA to release new music and were to the point of frustration where they were taking things out on Punch through Twitter. Between that and watching SZA through her social media living and experiencing life, I expect the new album to be as amazing as her debut.
JAY ROCK - The OG member of the label Jay Rock has been quietly working since his last album Redemption dropped in Summer of 2018. Since the pandemic, he’s grown his hair out and looks like he’s been in the zone with making music and living life. I'm interested in hearing what he has to say this time around whenever it's time to release his new album.
SCHOOLBOY Q - Coming off his last album Crash Talk, Schoolboy Q has always been staying busy on the feature tip. It’s either the features or social media whenever we see him, whether it's playing the daddy role with his daughter or if he’s out playing golf. Even though I thoroughly enjoyed Crash Talk as an album from front to back, I can also understand why some of the fans felt like they were let down by this album. Q has said sometime after the album dropped that he was already back to work on his next album. From what I’ve heard through the grapevine, I'm hearing that Groovy Q is back on his Blankface/Habits and Contradictions vibes for the next album.
ISAIAH RASHAD - I don't have a clue as to why Zaywop is taking forever with releasing his album but he is the only member on TDE right next to Ab Soul who hasn't released a brand new album since 2016 with The Sun’s Tirade. He’s been previewing brand new music here & there on his instagram live. Whether he drops an album this year or not, I'm looking forward to hearing from Zaywop musically soon. He has been away for far too long.
DRAKE
The anticipation for his new album Certified Lover Boy is at an all time high right now. Since last year between all of the Drake leaks and his last project Dark Lane Demo Tapes, Drake has really been in his bag on the music tip. It felt like since his last interview with Elliot Wilson on rap radar, it feels like he’s been more focused than ever making sure the new album is quality material. All of the leaks and his last project have shown me that we haven't seen anything yet for Certified Lover Boy. It’s supposed to be coming out sometime this month but we shall see and find out.
PARTYNEXTDOOR
It felt good hearing back from Party after releasing his album PartyMobile, after being on a hiatus from releasing new music. Now that we’ve had time to properly digest the new album, I think it’s time for Party to work on a brand new album and the reason that I say that is because since he was away for so long prior to Partymobile, it feels more appropriate that new music should start dropping.
G-HERBO
I've always been a fan of G-Herbo’s music since the beginning of his career back when he was calling himself Lil Herb. But ever since hearing his new song “Statement”, it’s become my 2021 song for the year. It makes no sense how many times I’ve had this song on repeat. Between the Dipset “I Really Mean It” sample and Herbo rapping forreal, the aura of that entire song sounds so refreshing and focused. I'm looking forward to 25 The Album , the title of his upcoming album. I don't know what's going to happen this coming album, but if he has more song quality sounding like “Statement”, then I'm very excited for this brand new album coming.
K-CAMP
After releasing Kiss 5, one of the better albums of 2020, K Camp made it clear that in 2021 he was coming for the number one spot. Every year, K Camp drops a new project and every year he always has a hit record kept in the tuck. I expect this year to be no different.
RODDY RICCH
I'm very interested to see where Roddy Ricch is going to go with his Sophomore Album. Coming off having such an incredible year in 2020 with his debut album, Please Excuse Me for Being Anti-Social, Roddy has kept himself busy with doing his features while also staying out of the way during this global pandemic. Roddy said earlier that he was in no rush to put out a brand new album and that he likes to take his time with creating his next album. He was able to win a lot of people over with the music that he was making but I'm interested to see what level is going to be able to take when it comes to the sophomore. He strikes me as a young man who is about his business and wants to make sure that he shows up each day as his best self. I'm looking forward to seeing what lemons that life will give to Roddy in order for him to tell his story on the album.
FUTURE
Instagram pictures surfaced of DJ Esco , Metro Boomin, and 808 Mafia all being back in the studio working together which prompted the rumors of Monster 2 possibly being in the works. Now as far as I know, I cannot say if that’s really going to be true. However, I did see that Future deleted all the pictures off of his Instagram page and whenever you see an artist do something of that magnitude, then that means get in formation because it looks like there’s going to be a new album due to us at any given day/moment.
YOUNG THUG
Even though Thugger is always active on featured guest tracks abd collaboration projects, it almost feels like forever since we've heard a solo album from him. So Much Fun exceeded my expectations and has been in my album rotation for a while still to this very day. It appears Thugger is getting ready for Slime Language 2 with the lead single Take it to Trial Featuring Gunna and Yak Gotti. This looks like this going to be a Young thug and friends album but i'm glad to hear that Thug will be releasing brand new music this year.
LIL BABY
Cheers to another rapper who had the best 2020 yet in regards to hip-hop music. Lil Baby has done enough hits, songs, features, all for the year to help him get to where he's supposed to be. Having said that, for some reason it feels like some people are still not giving Baby the respect he truly deserves. From the awards show not properly nominating him as one of the better artists whether the nomination is for the album or him as an artist. He’s already closed off on the features and is back in the lab cooking up brand new music from what i'm hearing. Even with all of the success coming to him, Lil Baby is still hungry to show and prove to the real ones that he’s here to stay.
NIPSEY HUSSLE
Word has got out through J Stone, one of Nipsey’s close friends and collaborators, confirmed that there will be a brand new Nipsey Hussle album that’s going to be released soon. J Stone had revealed on the The Bootleg Kev podcast that there’s so many verses Nip has done where he thought that he's heard everything. For me personally, as long as Nipsey’s team is involved in the process of making this album, then I'm all for this release. It was messed up knowing that he was in work already with his next album and the collaboration project with Meek only for him to pass away unexpectedly.
PUSHA-T
Daytona came out back in 2018 and yet it feels like it's been out for almost half a decade. There’s been rumors of a Pusha/Madlib project for a while now that haven't been confirmed yet. However in another interview, Pusha had confirmed his upcoming album so far is produced by Pharrell and Kanye West. He also said that it should be almost done very soon. We’ve only heard about Pusha’s music ever so often lately. The last time we heard from Pusha was about his drake diss verse on Pop Smoke’s Posthumous deluxe album, Shoot for the Star, Aim for the Moon. I'm already expecting the music to be very superior but I'm just ready for a brand new album coming very soon.

2020 is set to be a great year for new music! We discuss the most anticipated hip hop releases coming this year!
By: James Teague
There’s going to be major life changes occurring all around us in this new decade and what better way to help us embrace these changes than through new music releases! New music this year will serve as our personal life soundtracks towards all newfound memories. The 2010’s started out smoking hot and progressed as the years passed. We’ve been blessed with some classic works that will be part of our lives. Even though it personally felt like the music in 2019 was lacking longevity, there were still some solid musical releases I personally enjoyed.
As we’re just now starting 2020, I'm looking forward to some of the artists we haven’t heard from in some time providing us listeners with some new vibes. I’ll be starting my 30’s in 2021 and I'm eager to know how impactful music will be to my taste and my life as I elevate in this new journey. Here is my list of artists whom I’m personally excited about that's rumored to release new music.
Noname, Smino, & Saba aka “Ghetto Sage”
Back in October, Chicago rapper NoName announced that her, Saba, & Smino had announced that they were forming a rap supergroup called “Ghetto Sage” and went on to debut their first group sound called “Haagen Dazs”. Each of these artists have dropped great albums at the end of the decade; NoName with Room 25, Saba with Care for ME & Smino with Noir. Even though “Haagen Dazs” is the first debut song for the group, they’ve collaborated 2 more times before becoming an official group. There’s been some talks about the group maybe having a project together but we will see as time progresses on.
The Weeknd
The last time that we’ve heard from Toronto Native The Weeknd was back in 2016 when he had released his last album Starboy. Since then we’ve gotten sights of Abel doing features for rappers such as Future & Trouble. If we didn’t hear him through music, then we would hear about his personal dating matters on and off. The Weeknd decided to surprise the fanbase by dropping two new singles. His single “Heartless” is produced by Metro Boomin. No information has been released yet for his new album but I’m looking forward to this next batch of new music coming.
Partynextdoor
These days you can find Toronto native Partynextdoor playing the songwriter role. The last time we heard new music was when he released his project called “Seven Days back in 2017.” Back in August, Drake said for us to expect new music coming soon from Party. In November, Party hinted on his IG that new music was coming out that Friday and proceeded to release two new singles, “The News” and “Loyal” with Drake. Awhile back before he went behind the scenes, Party mentioned that his next album would be titled “Club Atlantis” but there’s no confirmation on whether or not that album title still stands. For now Party has been teasing us about new music that’s coming. There’s still a special place in my heart for Party’s first two albums and i’m excited to hear what he’s cooking up with this new album at the top of the year.
G-Herbo
Out of all the acts in the city, G-Herbo is considered one of my top favorite acts to come out of Chicago in the last couple of years. His last collaborative album with Southside, Swervo, is still in my music rotation since the day it released. Before the 2019 ended, Herbo had said he is currently working on his next project, PTSD. He didn’t specify when the album was coming but after surprising his fans with dropping a short but sweet project, Sessions, one can only assume that he plans to release PTSD later on sometime this year.
Tory Lanez
Even though he just recently just dropped his album Chixtape 5, Tory is always consistently working and releasing new music, whether singles or guest features. Tory has already said that he has some upcoming projects that are in the works. There are currently no release dates assigned to these new projects at this time, however one can hope that maybe Tory could drop a project maybe such as The New Toronto 3. Personally, The New Toronto series is a preferred favorite series out of the others for me.
SZA
Periodically on Social Media, via Instagram, you can catch a glimpse of TDE songstress SZA out and about living life to the fullest. She has updated us through Twitter that she is currently working on her next upcoming album. The 3 year anniversary of CTRL is around the corner and this album sounds as fresh as it did the first time it was released. No information yet has been released about the album but we’re looking forward to hearing what SZA has to say this following go round.
Isaiah Rashad
Recently on Twitter, Isaiah has hinted on being in a better space mentally to release the music that he loves. The last time we heard from TDE’s own was back in 2016 when he dropped his sophomore effort The Sun’s Tirade. It’s clear that Isaiah has been working on music but he’s reportedly said he was having a hard time finding his stride in making the type of music he loves. Recently he’s hinted at finding his stride out and also teased a possible collab record with Schoolboy Q with Kenny Beats on the production side. We don’t have any album information but we’re patiently waiting on Zaywop to bless us with new heat soon.
Migos
It’s been awhile since we last heard new music from Migos. Following the release of Culture 2, the rap group from Gwinnett County decided to go in a different direction by releasing their solo albums. Even though each of the members have their unique talents, we quickly realize that all three of these members are much better as one unit compared to being solo acts. Culture 3 is currently in the works, and it was mentioned that there was a chance it could be dropping sometime in the first quarter. We’ll stay tuned.
Future
The Wizard has already kicked off the new year 2 for 2 with “Life is Good” with Drake and “Federal Fed” with Moneybagg Yo. If there’s one thing you can always count on every year is a brand new Future project dropping. Theres no other information on plans of Future’s next album endeavors but with “Life is Good” being released, one can be certain that Future is planning to drop soon at some point. Now whether it’s going to be another Future album or the rumored sequel to “What A Time to Be Alive,” I’m always looking forward to new projects being distributed out by The Wizard Himself.
Griselda (Westside Gunn & Madlibb/Conway)
The Infamous crew hailing from Buffalo, New York is coming fresh off a great 2019. Members of Griselda; Benny the Butcher, Conway, & Westside Gunn have held their own in each of the latest projects released. Once the group signed with Roc Nation with the help of Jay-Z, the rap group knew what time it was. Two Projects from Westside Gunn and Conway’s collaborative effort with Madlib are planning to drop sometime this year. Westside Gunn ended up making a bold start on the end of year Rap Radar Interview with Elliot Wilson and Bdot by saying Griselda had a much better year in 2019 than TDE and Dreamville.
Rihanna
These days trying to get a global icon like Rihanna to drop new music is almost equivalent to pulling teeth. Rih has been busy collecting her bag with her company Fenty. There’s not a lot of information that’s out about her album outside of hearing that this next upcoming album is supposedly reggae influenced.
Drake
Whether you love him or you hate him, Drake always has a way of making the masses remember him, whether through his chart topping hits, gossip blogs/news, or finding him supporting platforms such as Rap Radar and Shop Talk. Drake seems to have moved past all of the ills that occurred from 2018 during the release of his last album Scorpion. In usual Drake fashion, he’s announced via tour that he has been hard at work on his next upcoming album. No telling when this album will come out but I can bet you he will have something out right around the summertime.
J. Cole
Cole has already confirmed about his next upcoming album following up from KOD titled The Fall Off. He’s already been working on that album. In between time he’s also been busy giving out feature verses to rappers like Young Thug, Royce, Gangstarr, & his Dreamville roster. His team all created a moment by creating and releasing Revenge of the Dreamers 3 compilation albums featuring the members of the Dreamville roster and friends. Cole said that he’s finished with giving out feature verses and has returned back into the lab to finish up on The Fall Off. This album is set to come out sometime this year.
Kendrick Lamar
We’re on the cusp of hitting the 3 year anniversary mark of Kendrick Lamar’s last solo album DAMN. Granted he’s followed up with curating The Black Panther soundtrack, its been very quiet for the Compton rapper. Outside of hearing news about him having his first child with his woman, he’s stayed off the scene for quite sometime. Also what’s more telling is how there hasn’t been as many guest verses from Kendrick as before within the last few years. Things have been quiet until this past weekend, Billboard columnist and former editorial director, Bill Werde, took to his twitter and present some interesting news regarding Kendrick’s next coming album. He mentions Kendrick’s next album may be more rock influenced however he follows up clarifying that “just because recording had hit a point where folks believe it may be finished — albums go back to the studio all the time after this point, and for a million different reasons.” At this point, all we can do is just wait until the TDE superstar decides to release his album. All that we can do now is wait patiently until the TDE superstar decides its time for us to hear what he has to say.

10 Years Ago Drake Dropped His Classic Mixtape "So Far Gone"
10 years ago today dropped his classic mixtape So Far Gone! This nostalgic tape stamped Drake as a music artist showing that he had much more to offer outside of acting.
By: Omar Cook
10 years ago today dropped his classic mixtape So Far Gone! This was Drake’s third official mixtape after Room For Improvement and Comeback Season. It’s crazy the amount of growth and success we’ve seen from Drake over the years, and it’s inspiring. I can remember watching Drake on Degrassi, then “Replacement Girl” with Trey Songz dropped and I was damn, Jimmy rapping now? Jimmy was just who he was at the time, but Drizzy has evolved into a straight hitmaker who seems to be shooting 100 percent from the field. Just about every project has been solid, and So Far Gone is debatably one of his best projects.
It’s hard to even choose a favorite track from this project as this is one those rare mixtapes where you can listen all the way through, no skips. Drake has switched up his flow delivery over the years but still has managed to stay atop of the music charts by evolving with the times, but this tape is classic Drizzy and gives you nostalgia. It’s almost hard to believe it’s been 10 years since this tape dropped, I can even remember when it dropped because I had it on repeat. I was senior in high school when this came out and “Brand New”, “Ignant Shit”, and “Best I Ever Had” saw about 10 plays respectively a day from me. The vibes on this tape were unreal and “Brias Interlude” and “A Night Off’ took this tape to the next level with the R&B feels.
Who really knew that Drake would blow up to be one of the biggest artists in the world, but he stamped himself with this mixtape and showed that his talent went way farther than acting. Check out the tape below and comment what your favorite track from this classic mixtape was.

Is Drake The Biggest Artist Of Our Generation?
Drake made history again by breaking a 54 year old record previously held by The Beatles with his 12th top 10 single this year appearing on Billboard’s Top 100 chart! Is Drake the biggest artist of our generation?
By: Omar Cook
In 1964, The Beatles racked in 11 top 10 singles on Billboard’s Top 100 chart. Well that record has been untouched until now. Bad Bunny's "MIA," featuring Drake came in at #5 on the Hot 100 giving Drake his 12th top 10 song of 2018. It’s been over 50 years since that record has been broken, so to say it’s been a great year of success for Drake would be an understatement. Take a look at all of the songs this year that Drake has put in the top 10.
No. 1 (11 weeks), "God's Plan," Feb. 3
No. 7, "Diplomatic Immunity," Feb. 3
No. 5, "Look Alive" (BlocBoy JB feat. Drake), March 3
No. 10, "Walk It Talk It" (Migos feat. Drake), April 14
No. 1 (eight weeks), "Nice for What," April 21
No. 6, "Yes Indeed" (Lil Baby & Drake), June 2
No. 2, "Nonstop," July 14
No. 7, "I'm Upset," July 14
No. 8, "Emotionless," July 14
No. 9, "Don't Matter to Me" (Drake feat. Michael Jackson), July 14
No. 1 (10 weeks), "In My Feelings," July 21
No. 5 (to date), "MIA," Bad Bunny feat. Drake, Oct. 27
This also becomes Drake’s 32nd Top song of his career which is the most for any individual male ever. With that being said, it’s hard to downplay his success. Drake is literally a walking hit maker and just about any song he hops on becomes a hit. It’s crazy to see the amount of success he’s built since the end the of Degrassi. I mean honestly, who would have predicted that wheelchair Jimmy was going to become one of the world’s biggest music artists?
Regardless of what you can say about someone else being a better singer or better rapper than Drake, the facts are no ones produces more hits than Drake and he’s more appealing musically to a broader audience. Even despite a beef with Pusha T that many people felt he lost and went about the wrong way for throwing out the white towel, he still managed to put out a hit album after that and is still breaking records.
Even among artists such as Beyonce or Rihanna, Drake has managed to position himself as consistent headliner. From Drake’s first project Room For Improvement, he’s consistently managed to evolve his music style to keep up with trends and stay atop the charts. it’s extremely difficult for an artist to remain in the spotlight or “relevant” for an extended time period, but Drake has done it for the past decade. No hating over here, we have to give respect where it’s due; Drake is the biggest artist of our generation.

“There’s no rules in this.” - Just How Deep Is This Pusha T and Drake Beef Going?
The beef between Drake and Pusha T has everything from pillow talking to fake friends, but just how deep is it going? There’s lessons to be learned from this.
“Stay away from beef at all costs.”
By: Omar Cook
It’s the middle of October and this beef between Drake and Pusha T is STILL dragging out from the summer. I mean, it was pretty quiet for a minute, and all seemed well…until we heard the interview between Drake and Lebron on Lebron’s newest HBO show The Shop. In the interview, Drake discussed how he felt betrayed by Kanye West by blaming him for leaking the info on his child to Pusha T. He also discussed Pusha T’s role in the beef by saying he went too far by speaking on his friend, Noah "40" Shebib’s condition of multiple sclerosis.
“Rap purists and people who just love confrontation, they love to say, ‘Aye there’s no rules in this shit.’ But there are fucking rules in this shit. I knew something was gonna come up about my kid. They had to add the deadbeat thing to make it more appealing, which is fine. I understand that. Even that, I was like, OK. The mom and dad thing, whatever. You don’t even know my family. But I’mma tell you, wishing death on my friend that has MS… I study rap battles for a living. Now when you mention defenseless people who are sick in the hospital, that passed away, that really sent me to a place where I just believed then, and believe now, that there’s just a price that you have to pay for that.”
So of course upon hearing this interview, most of are thinking, damn Kanye, why you do Drake like that? And of course Kanye is the easy target because he’s a head case. So in hearing this interview, you would almost expect nothing less than a response from Pusha T himself. and that’s what we got. Pusha T revealed who the TRUE source of his information was in an interview on Joe Budden's podcast, and it wasn’t from who we expected.
"The information came from 40," the G.O.O.D. Music president said in reference to Drake implying that Kanye West was the source. "It didn’t come from Kanye, at all. 40 is sleeping with a woman, who begins to...he talks to her daily. Five, six hours a day...And ultimately speaks about how he's disgruntled about certain things, notoriety and things involving Drake and his career, and so on and so forth. With that also came the fact that Drake has a child. With that also came the trip that everybody took to go see the child, and bring him gifts, and all this information. She divulged this information. That's where it came from."
That’s right. Pusha T revealed that the information came from Drake’s friend,40, who was pillow talking about Drake’s situation to a woman he was sleeping with. This situation makes the lyrics to Drake’s song Light It Up even more relevant today, and just a little bit creepy as Drake and Jay-Z both spoke about a possible situation like this happening in that song. “And if you pillow talking with the women that are screwin' you/ Just know that she gon' tell another nigga when she through wit you” Drake said on the song. Drake, here is how they gon' come at you/ With silly raps for you tryin' to distract you/ In disguise, in the form of a favor/ The Barzini me, watch for the traitors” Jay Z said. That was 9 years ago and this shit really just played out. Crazy.
Pusha went on to also say "Only reason I'm here now, for real for real, is because [Drake] was so passionate about the MS thing," he said. "And they did the backlight and they put the spotlight on his face, 'When you said my friend,' but your friend is the reason why. That's how it came about. That narrative's gotta die. Listen, it needs to die. It's done. That narrative is done." I think it’s safe to say we solved the mystery of where the information came from.
In response to Drake talking about there being rules to rap beef, rapper Styles P chimed in on the issue in a recent interview with Hot 97 saying “You can’t expect in any type of warfare, any type, not just rap, ain’t no rules,” Styles P said. “You gotta go into it knowing anything could happen. That’s why your best bet is to not engage. Stay away from beef at all costs.”
Styles also said, “I don’t got nothing against Drake, but how does a guy say what’s the rules in a rap battle that had a ghostwriter before. That’s not fair dog. You gotta stay up there. You’re beautiful up there. We love you up there. But don’t come down here and change the rules. That’s wrong because it’s war.”
Truth is, when it comes to hip hop, Styles P is right, ain’t no rules to a rap beef and we’ve seen this throughout history with some of hip hop’s most notorious rap beefs. Pusha T baited Drake into a beef and Drake took the bait and didn’t have enough gas to finish the race. Bottomline. If he never wanted to worry about rap beef '“rules”, he should have never took the bait and responded. Not only that, but he engaged in the beef and threw in the white towel! Then claimed he had this career ending response that he cooked up but didn’t want to release it because it would “hurt too many people.”
I’m really not sure what else we’re going to hear from this situation but it’s starting to look like an old episode of Ricky Lake. The drama is finding it’s way to the light. We don’t expect Drake to be a battle rapper, we know that’s not your lane. But there’s lessons to be learned here. Lesson 1, is never engage in something that you know you can’t finish, especially if you have to stoop down to someone’s level to be involved in it. Lesson 2, is watch who your friends are and what you tell them because you never know what they’re saying behind your back.

Drake and Meek Mill Squashing Their Beef Is What Hip Hop Needed
Drake and Meek Mill hit the stage together in Boston to squash a longtime beef! We discuss it here!
“We need more peace in the world, we need more love in the world. Meek Mill that’s my brother, that’s my nigga from day one”
By: Omar Cook
Faith Evans and Mary J. Blige fought at Diddy's house in the Hamptons. Cardi B and Nicki Minaj got physical during fashion week. Mac Miller was found dead in his home. In what has been a week full of unforeseen storylines in the hip hop world, add this one to the list. Drake and Meek Mill just ended their beef. Wild.
Drake and Meek Mill Squash Beef In Boston
Drake hit the stage in Boston for a stop on his Aubrey and the Three Migos tour Saturday night, and in the plot twists of all plot twists, Drake brought out Meek Mill to perform Dreams and Nightmares. "We need more peace in the world, we need more love in the world. Meek Mill that's my brother, that's my nigga from day one" Drake said on stage. This what hip hop needed!
Drake and Meek have been beefing since 2015 when Meek accused Drake of having ghostwriters to write his songs. Meek also had an issue with Drake not shouting out Meek’s Dreams Worth More Than Money album, Since then, the beef has been fueled with a bevy of diss tracks.
A surprising as this is, it's only fitting that this beef has come to end because Meek has been filled with a new energy since his release from prison. The rapper has been on a mission to fight for criminal justice reform since his release and holding onto a petty rap beef would just be a distraction to the cause. Drake really doesn't need anymore beef as he already went at it with Pusha T to kick off the summer.
Will this mean we will see some music between the two artists in the future? Time will tell, but or now we can just enjoy the black unity.

The Best Summer Anthems Of 2018 | 9 Songs That You Need in Your Playlist
We’re giving you a list of the some of the 9 best summer anthems of 2018! See if your favorite song the cut here!
By: James Teague
For some reason the vibes for Summer 2018 were different and I couldn’t put my finger on why. Maybe the current climate of our lives is playing a role. All that I can say is that the season is almost over and we don’t truly have an anthem to define our Summer this year. There’s usually a song that’s already been decided by the masses already. There's some songs you can say that fell into that Summer 18 category and after careful living and observation, I’ve picked out a couple of songs that can be nominated as the best summer anthems 2018. You can be the judge and decide which song is considered to be the anthem of Summer 18.
Ella Mai - Boo’d Up
This song was originally on Ella Mai’s Ready EP which was released last year. But somehow it resurfaced this year and created a life of its own. I appreciate the “Trust the process” story. Ella Mai is deserving of all this attention she’s getting. Everybody loves it especially the guys.

Drake - Nice for What
It’s not Summer without Drake giving us an anthem to enjoy amongst the current time of our lives. From the song to the visual, you can tell this was dedicated more to the women out there working hard and looking good simultaneously. He made it clear for the women that this was the summer to start acting up and letting the men know what time it was.
Drake - “Nice For What” Music Video
YG - Big Bank
Everybody loves a rachet west coast style single from YG alongside DJ Mustard on the production boards. It felt good to hear Mustard & YG linking back up again for Stay Dangerous. You can't help but do your dance when “My b*tch drive an all white range/ Couldn't hit if you n*ggas had aim..” first comes on.
YG - Big Bank ft. 2 Chainz, Big Sean, Nicki Minaj (Official Music Video)
Jay Rock - WIN
This isn’t just a song, it’s a life mantra that the people strive to live for in life! This was the perfect song to officially kick off Jay Rock’s run with Redemption, which happens to be one of top rap albums so far in 2018. Once again the TDE brand remains strong.
Jay Rock - “Win” Music Video
Tory Lanez ft Rich The Kid - Talk to Me
I was having a tough time trying to choose between BID and Talk to Me but the chorus alone for Talk to Me is so catchy that it just rolls off of your tongue with ease. Tory is planning to drop a new project Love Me Now right after releasing his Sophomore Effort Memories Don’t Die.

Drake - In My Feelings
When I first heard this record on the night Scorpion released, I already knew this was going to be a smash single! Between the New Orleans influence and Drake giving City Girls a huge look, it had all of the ingredients for a successful moment. And it all kicked off when IG comedian Shiggy started the “In My Feelings” challenge.

Khalid ft Ty Dolla Sign & 6lack - On the Way
The visual and vibe of this song gave me 90s vibes with a twist. It’s always great to hear feel good R&B records that you just automatically know is going to stand the test of time especially when hearing great young R&B acts. Ty Dolla is currently on his run with some of the best guest features in 2018 so far! Meanwhile everyone is anticipating 6lack’s next album release at any moment.
Khalid - “OTW” featuring 6LACK, Ty Dolla $ign (Official Music Video)
Valee ft Jeremih - Womp Womp
The rising stardom of Chicago rapper Valee has been a trajectory to watch this year from his debut EP GOOD Job, You Found Me to watching other rappers try and imitate his rap flow. This is one of the records that helps highlight who Valee is as an up and coming artist. I'm looking forward to hearing his next project with Cardo Got Wangz to see where he’s going to go next with his music.
Valee featuring Jeremih - “Womp Womp” (Official Music Video)
Tyga ft Offset - Taste
With all of the constant slander and jokes that the masses have made towards rapper Tyga, we forget about his ability to keep a hit record under his belt. At first I wasn’t sure what to think about the reactions to the song, but after listening and living with this song, I was sold. Between that, his other record Swish, and his new LA Leakers Freestyle, I’m liking what he’s doing with his music and hope he continues this streak of great music.
