Bryson Tiller Announces "Back and I’m Better Tour" for this Spring
Bryson Tiller announces his "Back and I'm Better Tour," a 25 city tour that will start this spring. We discuss it here!
By: Adonis Armstrong
Bryson Tiller is gearing up for a upcoming tour this spring after a five year drought. Earlier today March 20th, the singer announced he will be headlining his “Back and I’m Better Tour” which consist of 25 city tour produced by Live Nation. The tour will start in May 4, in San Diego, California and will feature some major cities throughout America, including Detroit, Philadelphia, Houston, New Orleans, and Miami. The tour will come to a close in Seattle, Washington on June 12th.
“It’s simple, we back! Taking a trip to the past and giving y’all a glimpse of the future. 5 whole years without touring, Time really does fly… See y’all soon!”
Tiller’s tour poster draws influence from the hit sci-fi classic movie Back to the Future, which was released in 1985.
It’s been five years since Bryson last toured with NAV, “Never Sleep Tour” and I believe this two month tour will draw nice crowds. Bryson has also been working on new music, which will be coming after his 2021 album, A Different Christmas, which earned a spot on the Billboard 200.
Tickets will be made available on March 22 with Live Nation presales. The Back and I’m Better Tour will go on sale to the general public on Friday, March 24, at 10 AM local time on ticketmaster.com.
Since Tiller is back and better it’s only right I end it with his classic single, “Don’t”. Listen below!

Lauryn Harris Talks The Release Of Her Latest Mixtape "Touch N Go"
Texas singer, Lauryn Harris, talks the release of her latest mixtape Touch N Go! The project is a complete Neo-Soul vibe and exactly what R and B needs right now! Check it out here!
“ I’m so excited for more people to get to experience this project and I hope they love it. More music in the future!”
By: Omar Cook
It’s been 3 years since Texas singer Lauryn Harris released her debut project, Inside My Head, but the release of her latest project was well worth the wait! Lauryn recently dropped a new mixtape titled Touch N Go, and each track is a vibe! Lauryn has a sound that reminds you of the Neo-soul legend, Erykah Badu, an underrated talent for sure.
“I came up with the name ‘TOUCH N GO’ because I think that’s been the theme of my life for the last few years. Nothing lasts forever so you take in what you’ve learned from people, places, etc. and then move on to what’s next. Change is inevitable so you have to figure out how to adapt. I’m still true to myself in this project but I allowed myself to experiment with different sounds and challenge myself as a songwriter.”
From her previous project til now, you can definitely hear the growth and maturity with each track. The lyrics are relatable especially to young millennials who are going through everyday trials and tribulations in their life.
“I want people to know that there is power in vulnerability. All of these songs have played out in my real life and I wanted to show that you’re not alone. Whether that be new beginnings, getting your heartbroken, or being unsure of what your purpose is. We forget that we’re all human and don’t have to struggle in solitude.”
Touch N Go features 7 tracks with great features from Chief Aleel, Louie Koston, and Tobacco Ryan. There is not a single miss on this project as it will have you replaying each song over and over. The perfect tape for a late night drive or a road trip. Our personal favorite is “Hardheaded”.
“I think ‘Hardheaded’ is a must listen. This song is about being with someone and sometimes you’ve outgrown one another. We fight so hard to “get that old thing back” or “relight the flame” when really it’s time to let go. It’s a beautiful song and I know a lot of people can relate. ‘SKURVY’. This song is the most out of my comfort zone but I realized how much I like working on rap/hip-hop beats. It’s just a fun song about driving late at night in the city to see that special someone. My collaborators, Louie Koston & Chief Aleel were amazing and really brought the song to life.”
Lauryn is definitely on the rise as an artist and with each song and project released, it becomes evidently clear that her talent needs to be shared with the world. This project embodies a true R and B sound.
“I think ‘TOUCH N GO’ really shows my growth. I’ve always loved music but this was the first time that I really fell in love with the process and took my time. I will always love my debut ‘Inside My Head’ but I hadn’t truly unlocked all of my creativity. I’m only going get better with each project and see what else I can bring to the table.”
Lauryn already has plans for future with an expectation to bring visuals to her tracks and live performances. Much needed and anticipated for an artist with a dope Neo-Soul sound.
“I’m going to work on getting some performances in the future and some visuals for this project. Music videos are a MUST this time around. 6. It’s only up from here. I’m so excited for more people to get to experience this project and I hope they love it. More music in the future!”

Alternative R&B: A Love Letter To Black Culture
Alternative R&B, which is at times referred to as Indie R&B, is a style of music that originated in the late 2000s, drawing inspiration from its sister-genre of contemporary R&B and serves as an abstract painting of our resilience and ability to transform. We discuss the rise of Alternative R&B here!
By: Cory Utsey
The genre of rhythm of blues, also known as R&B, has remained a staple in the Black community since it first took roots in the 1940s.
As a culmination of blues-inspired music, fast-paced rhythm, jazz, and light-hearted lyrical content, these songs hold the power to take listeners through a euphoric ride full of love, life, and redemption.
The term “rhythm and blues” was coined by music journalist Gerald “Jerry” Wexler in an attempt to replace the then-popular phrase “race music”, which was labeled offensive, while also marketing this new sound that had become popular in Black circles.
As the genre began to be associated with Black adolescence and late-night club scenes in the 1950s, it started to be seen as low-quality in comparison to Jazz music, which was regarded as a more refined form of Black expression. However, as R&B began to incorporate funk and soul, along with relatable lyrics about love, it was seen as more of an umbrella term for contemporary Black expression.
Nowadays, R&B and each of its sub-genres are easily accessible and highly revered-- especially alternative R&B.
Alternative R&B, which is at times referred to as Indie R&B, is a style of music that originated in the late 2000s, and it draws inspiration from its sister-genre of contemporary R&B.
Contemporary R&B combines elements of traditional R&B with lush, disco-like production and a distinct rhythm that is reminiscent of early hip-hop. It is best represented by artists such as Beyonce, Michael and Janet Jackson, and Usher.
Alternative R&B, on the other hand, takes some of those same attributes that are found in contemporary and traditional R&B, and fuses them with more prominent bass and vocals that almost feel like an echo.
As a versatile style of music, no two artists sound the same.
The airy, angel-like voices of singers like Brent Faiyaz or SZA can reel you in as they talk about toxic love and heartbreak, while Leven Kali and Syd might make you feel like you are seated on a cloud, so long as you tell them what you like. Solange might facilitate Black pride while providing a haven for different aspects of the Black experience, while Xavier Omar and Lucky Daye might have you aching for that “Old School” love.
The Internet - Girl (Official Video) ft. KAYTRANADA
Lucky Daye - How Much Can A Heart Take (Lyric Video) ft. Yebba
The subject matter varies from love and sex, to spiritual anecdotes and commentary on what is going on in the world.
If music has been a canvas for the expression of our pain, our joy, and our love, then alternative R&B is an abstract painting of our resilience and ability to transform.
Alternative R&B is the sister, the cousin and the love-child of the many different genres in which Black people have made a mark, and it is undoubtedly one of the most dynamic genres to top the charts in today’s day and age. It is a love letter to Black creativity and Black culture.

Nayome Talks Her New EP "Personal" And Drops New Video For "Show Me"
Texas singer Nayome dropped her new EP titled Personal! This is her 2nd full project after dropping her 1st EP Recovered+ in 2018.
“My intention was to let people know that it’s ok to be vulnerable, whether it’s after being hurt or if you’re in love.”
“My intention was to let people know that it’s ok to be vulnerable, whether it’s after being hurt or if you’re in love. I think personal experiences really shift our navigation around love. I just wanted to share my experience and hope that people resonated with that.”
By: Omar Cook
Texas singer Nayome dropped her new EP titled Personal! This is her 2nd full project after dropping her 1st EP Recovered+ in 2018, and it is definitely full of good vibes.
“The inspiration came on it’s own. When I start an EP or a project, I don’t really think about a name, I just think about the intention behind the songs I wanted to do and I definitely wanted these songs to be a little bit more personal. I wanted to open up and be more vulnerable with my song selections. As you hear on “Wrong Me” and “Show Me”, I feel like these are very vulnerable tracks and they aligned perfectly with my personal life. So once I was done with all 5 songs, it was definitely in an intention on being personal which come to find out was a perfect EP name.”
This project features very relatable tracks pertaining to dating and relationships. One song that stands out is the very 1st track on the EP titled “Show Me” which Nayome also dropped a dope new visual for.
Nayome - Show Me (Official Music Video)
“It’s hard for me to pick my favorite track because I truly love all of the songs on there. I’ll have to say the female collaboration with Eimaral Sol is my favorite. It was an empowering feeling that I got whenever I heard that track the first time through and I was like wait a minute, I think we really did that on the track! It was empowering to have my first female feature and Eimaral Sol came through and really did her thing and we came up with our little mantra ‘can’t run, can’t hide, karmas coming and she’s on our side. So that’s the one that I think most people are gravitating towards and I gravitate towards but it’s going to have to be between that one and show me.”
Nayome featured some other Texas talent with collaborations from Deezie Brown and Eimaral Sol. The production on the EP is top notch giving out the perfect vibes for a late night drive. The switch up in delivery from slow R&B on “F*****g With You” to Nayome delivering rap lyrics on “I Wasn’t Done” takes the project to the next level. Nayome is definitely coming into her own as an artist and you can hear the growth from the 1st EP to this one.
“You can expect some different sounds on this project. I collaborated with my boy Deezie Brown and he really came through on the productions. I would say there’s a lot of productions on this project that is amazingly dope all local to Austin, TX. I had collaborated with Nick Cooper, Sam Houston and Deezie Brown but Deezie executive produced. One thing I told him is I don’t want this to sound like anything out there so when you listen to the first track, I feel like I finally found my sound. it sounds like me, and I’m just so proud of like the products that we have on the project. So just be looking out for some great production, great messages, and great vibes. It fits every vibe, cleaning in your kitchen, out with the bae, or right after a break up.”

West Coast rapper dropped his highly anticipated EP Ocho II! “I feel like my first project was raw because I was just getting into the music scene. This project is more elevated as far as how it sounds.” Stream the project here and check out what he had to say!
By: Omar Cook
West Coast rapper dropped his highly anticipated EP Ocho II! His first EP Ocho was a success for the upcoming rapper and this new project definitely did not dissapoint. This artist came out hot last year in 2019 with 5 hot tracks on Ocho and is continuing to make a name for himself.
It’s just a continuation of the first EP. My first EP was called Ocho. So this one is just part 2. I feel like my first project was raw because I was just getting into the music scene. This project is more elevated as far as how it sounds.
The very first track on the EP “Lowkey”, sets the whole tone for the project which is definitely a track that you can vibe too, featuring fellow artist DaiDMB and produced by Jonny Cash.
The song “Lowkey” is a banger in my book. It’s a good party banger. The beat is smooth and everything. The song “Put You On” ft. Xian Bell is a more r&b feel. I think people would fuck with that.
This project features 5 songs that definitely give off a dope West Coast sound. My personal favorite off the project is “Put You On” which has the most traditional R and B sound on the project. 1TakeOcho is original in his delivery as there isn’t an artist that sounds like him. He mixes raw explicit lyrics with R and B and west coast beats to produce a quality project all around.
People can expect some good sounding music and good vibes no cap! I’m pretty excited about this EP because it was a lot of quality involved as far as the cover art for and the songs on it. I hope y’all fuckin with it. I’m just tryna give y’all some good vibes.

Shamba Talks Her Latest EP "Recharged"
Georgia singer, Shamba, recently dropped her new EP called Recharged, her third project this year! Check out what she had to say and listen to the project here!
“Mike Kalombo and I definitely did something incredible with the entire Trilogy but Recharged holds the cake in my life because of how personal it was for me. The words serve such a larger purpose. Listen with intent and enjoy the pieces of the puzzle as a whole.”
By: Omar Cook
Georgia singer, Shamba, recently dropped her new EP called Recharged!
I came up with “Recharged” after of course already having Reflect & Reset in mind. I wanted the EP Trilogy to have an overall story to it so I knew I wanted the last piece to embody the sort of closure needed after dealing with a “heartbreak” or a major change within yourself. Coming to the end and being able to say what you will and will not stand for anymore is a beautiful thing and that’s what I aimed for.
The project features 6 tracks that showcase her versatility from more up beat songs like “Levels” to a toned down true R&B sound on her track “Real Talk”.
Honestly the entire project is a must listen. However, “Just A Minute” & “Don’t Be Mad” are my top 2 ( if I had to choose). Kicking it off with letting everyone know you need a minute to clear your head and get yourself right, into ight i’m back with a purpose and i’m going to do everything in my power to fulfill it so don’t be mad! Those two songs embody the message of the project but absolutely every song brings something new.
Shamba has been working hard this year as this is his her third EP released this year after dropping both Reset and Reflect this year.
I definitely feel the confidence in my words separate this project from the others. It’s not a cockiness but more so a revelation that you are ALL THAT & a bag of chips. It serves as a reminder to be that in your everyday walk and talk. For me in my personal life, it was needed. So I felt it imperative that others have it so they can feel everything these six songs give to me.
This one of her best projects to date as she continues to grow her music catalogue and you can definitely hear the growth and confidence in her approach to each track.
You can expect fun & hype energy with a serious undertone. This body of work just exudes a certain narrative that I feel is a pick me up. It’s a mindset. It’s a lifestyle. Expect to be feeling yourself and not taking no crap after hearing Recharged.

Anthiny King Talks Release Of His New Album "Parallels"
R&B singer Anthiny King dropped his new album Parallels and it is full of good vibes! We talked with Anthiny in an exclusive interview about the making of this album, creative inspiration and more!
By: Omar Cook
R&B singer Anthiny King dropped his new album Parallels and it is full of good vibes! The album features 11 tracks that you can play all the way through with no skips and it will not disappoint. Anthony Jerome Lezama Jr., better known by his stage name Anthiny King was born in Manhattan, New York, November 20, 1990. Raised between Harlem and Brooklyn, Anthiny is an independent American rapper, singer-songwriter and producer of West Indian Descent. He spent most of his younger years in harlem where he began writing down rhymes at the age of 14 influenced by a close friend in High School. Since releasing a few mixtapes and EPs, he’s worked on and been apart of songs with the likes of Jadakiss, Fabolous, Bun B, Jae Millz & Loaded Lux just to name a few.
Anthiny King - Sonic Silhouettes S2:E3 | DON'T LOSE
We talked with Anthiny King in an exclusive interview, check it out below!
QUESTION: What was your inspiration for the title of this project?
Anthiny King: At one point in time in life when I was 17 and done with High School, I had made this conscious decision to pursue music as a career. Creatively I was in this very big imaginative state and it felt like I could make anything I had in my mind. Over the course of the next decade into this current time, I would experience so many things in life that would either strip me of my inspiration and confidence or help me gain it but the feeling I had at 17 had never quite got back to me in the midst of these challenges. Now on this present day that reinvigorating energy I carry now parallels where I was 11 years ago. The two lines i once walked faithfully with me either being an artist/creative or an audio engineer/songwriter had lead me back to this road when I started believing again. I feel like the art aspect between those two lines parallel each other as it takes just about the same effort from both to actually make something special.
QUESTION: What do you want people to know about your music and this project?
Anthiny King: This album finally came together after my so many hiatuses… and for that I apologize to everyone who’d been waiting all the while. I had planned to release a full length project a few years back but I felt I wasn’t emotionally there yet. I think I simply just had more life to experience and other personal things with myself to get over before I could put the finalization on anything. I also want people to know that I personally recorded, mixed and mastered this album from top to bottom myself. So you’re getting a thorough listen of ME. I wanted to control the sonics of my ideas.
QUESTION: What do you feel is a song that people MUST listen to on this project?
Anthiny King: I can’t really think of anything specific when it comes to Parallels. You’d just have to experience it in full.
QUESTION: How did you generate ideas for the songs on this Prelude?
Anthiny King: Nothing was forced. I think I let my heart lead me through the whole process. Every song on here is genuinely inspired whether it be by my personal life, a family or friend’s situation, or me wanting to create a moment for myself to help me tap back into the days of young when my grandparents, mother and father would play me these amazing tunes spanning between the early 60’s and the late 90’s. These were “the good ol’ days”.
QUESTION: What separates this project from your past projects?
Anthiny King: This is the most focused project I’ve ever put together. Past releases were labeled as Mixtapes, Compilations, EPs… but this is my first Album. This project to me just seems the most put together in terms of introducing myself and my talent in the way that’s able to help you understand me more clearer than ever. I’ve watched a lot of my favorites like Kanye West, J. Cole, Sade, Drake, Jay-Z, Pharrell put out these growing brands of sound with each project they release. Doing some of that studying had helped me put things into perspective and compassed the sound of the album.
QUESTION: How long have you been making music and how did you get started?
Anthiny King: I’ve been doing this since I was 14. I was always very fond of it even at a younger age. What got me started were these lunch room freestyles me and a good friend would kick everyday. I admired his skills so much that I started working on mines and fast forward, I’m home recording whole songs on this tape recorder my mom would use to catch her church sermons. I had bought this PS2 video game MTV Music Generator 3 which had dropped the same year of 2004. It allowed me to create my own beats and remixes. I would make the beat, write the song and then have to record the whole song in 1 take on the tape recorder. Lol I’d hate when my siblings would mess it up by making noise even when I would tell them to be quiet for a few minutes. I must’ve recorded a lot of songs like 10 times each at least. The rest is history.
QUESTION: What motivates you and how do you define success?
Anthiny King: My people. My close ones. My loved ones. I do everything not only for me… but for them as well. It’s bigger than me. It’s about inspiring others to push themselves to their greater potentials while pushing for your own. Success to me is taking care of you and yours and fulfilling your purpose. Being emotionally, spiritually and physically healthy is one of the greatest successes of all time in my opinion.
QUESTION: Which emotion more than any other, currently dominates your music? Joy, sadness, anger or passion etc. , and why?
Anthiny King: I let all emotions take their place in my music. But to center it all I’ll say everything comes down to joy and sadness...but mostly joy… there’s a lot of things that make us happy… and a lot that makes us sad. I never shy away from tapping into those emotions to get a point across because life is forever giving us our best times one minute and then in the next everything’s to s***. You will always hear my music and be able time travel to that moment in your life when things were “right”... I make this music from a real place. I just want everyone to feel good when they listen.
QUESTION: What sacrifices have you had to make, to make your dream a reality?
Anthiny King: I just really had to focus up and that task doesn’t get any easier. Focusing up to achieve the things I truly want included less time with family, friends, girlfriends, etc. No one will ever understand what it takes to attain certain things musically until you submerge yourself into your craft. It has to go undistracted during long periods of time. It’s easier said than done.
QUESTION: What advice would you give to other up and coming artists or people looking to break into the music industry?
Anthiny King: Be your biggest believer. No one is going to believe it the way they should if you don’t. And always remain true to you. Your energy must at all times be protected. Those who don’t understand you creatively now… will later… you just have to continue on with your ascension. And aim to improve. Respect your peers and the ones that came before you. Study your sound and confidently grow it.
QUESTION: If you had one message to give to your fans what would it be?
Anthiny King: We’re all designers in this lifetime… if you have ideas… never be afraid to clothe the people in them because you never know who’s going to make it their favorite outfit.

R&B singer Nayome dropped a hot new single called “What You Need”! This up and coming artist out of Texas has been consistent with dropping good music and is not slowing up since dropping her debut EP R E C O V E R E D + in 2018. Nayome brings a soulful vibe to this track and is showing us that real R&B still exists.
“My homie Billy sent me a collection of beats and when I came across this particular beat, I was like, “Ohhhh wait a minute now, we gone have to do something to this one.” The words, “You tell me…What you need” were the first words to slip out of my mouth before I gave the whole track a listen. That pretty much set the tone for the song and I wanted to challenge myself to become more lyrical with this song. So I really settled on the feeling of loving someone so much, that one be willing to just be ready to do about anything they need. (Cant relate haha) but I wrote in the perspective of speaking to myself and what I would want. “Living in a different era wit cha, I wanna spend my endeavors with ya. I want you to invade my space and lay with meh till eternity,” Thats quite the feeling and I wouldn’t want to settle for anything less. What you need is really referring to what I desire. I hope when people listen they are reminded of their loved ones or excited about their desires.” - Nayome

JC Olivera/WireImage - John Legend Earns EGOT
By: Omar Cook
In 2018, there are still a lot of firsts to be accomplished by black people and John Legend just set the stage for more walls to be torn down. John Legend is now the first African American to earn EGOT status! John Legend is one of the youngest people ever to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.
Legend recently won an Emmy at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards for producing the best variety special winner, "Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert." Add that to go along with 10 grammys. The man is talented. Legend won an Oscar in 2015 for his song "Glory" which was featured in the film Selma and in 2017 he earned a Tony for his role as a co-producer for the Broadway production of "Jitney."
This is not only a win for John Legend, but a win for black culture and the next generation of black creators and entertainers that can see that major success is attainable on all levels. This is an inspiring win that black people can hold their heads high for. Black youth need positive role models to look up to and be able to see that they can follow in the same footsteps.
Being the first black anything is an accomplishment and this one is major. To accomplish EGOT in entertainment just speaks to the level of talent and commitment to success that John Legend has and this should be seen as motivation for anyone that trying to make a name for themselves. Thank you John Legend, for showing us that dedication to creativity will not go unnoticed.
