As the 2024 Golden Globes season officially comes to an end, let’s highlight the phenomenal black women who so casually and undeniably marked the red carpet with their essence and the black men who graced the red carpet with their swag. The ladies and gentlemen had every intention of stomping the grounds, dripping fashion, and executing the realism of trendy couture. Let’s dive right into it!

First on the List:

  1. Fantasia

Fantasia Golden Globes

Fantasia has made her mark every year and continuously surprises us with her style, yet, still so humble. With Fantasia's first major film being The Color Purple, she wanted to pay homage to the film. Wearing her luscious Dolce and Gabbana corset gown, showcasing a velvet bodice with a bedazzled middle section that gracefully expanded into a lavender tulle skirt while still exuding an unconventional charm. Very much so a Fantasia move. While the audience gave her extreme confidence, she would just smile and say, “God is so good” because that is what she does best. EAT and give God praise.

Janelle James Golden Globes

2. Janelle James

“Janelle James, she gave me something. The quarantine gold sleeves are chef’s kiss” - @pinknthecity Wearing a high slit just in the right placement with a simple black dress could have been just a basic cherry on top, but no, Janelle James said 'think harder and brighter' to the Monsori collection. She enlightened the girls’ girls with her perfect touch of fashion enabling the golden sheath to be its own paid actress. As the sleeves were to the floor, so were our jaws. Yes ma’am. Yet, still simple enough, that anyone at the Golden Globe understood her assignment. The it factor was tagged at this point, and she won!

Trevor Noah

3. Trevor Noah

If you want a guy to come to a red carpet looking his best, this is the man that will do it for us, every time. Trevor does not ever say much, but his outfit always speaks volumes. His black loafers gave his outfit the extra gloss it needed to sum up his perfect polished look. If you ever thought he was done, he always finished with an “I got more.” style mentality. “Trevor Noah showed the guys how to “throw a suit and get it tapered up” or whatever JZ said '' -@pinknthecity Trevor wore a nice mellow all-black tuxedo that fit him nicely to the inch of his helm. He never told us the secret of where the outfit was from, but as he always does best, he will continuously keep us guessing. Honestly and truly Trevor, what is next?

Lenny Kravitz

4. Lenny Kravitz

Caution: Extreme biases are about to take place. However,  Lenny Kravitz can do no wrong in anyone's eyes. He oversteps boundaries in fashion that dare him to be different and put that thang on. That is what fashion is all about anyway, right? Wearing what you love and making your world love your fit just because you do. Lenny does it well with great confidence. "His McQueen side-cut blazer had the audience at the Golden Globes in awe. Lenny knew he should not be causing risk factors as such, but would he be Lenny if he didn’t? Again, Mr, Kravitz please get off our neck, it is disrespectful. His Christian Louboutin Aiglissima leather boots gave us the spin that our heads needed. To add to the madness he had his signature shades and jewelry from Chrome Hearts and New York Vintage that leveled up his look.

Sheryl Lee Ralph Golden Globes

5. Sheryl Lee Ralph

“Looking like everyone’s regal auntie per usual” -@pinknthecity giving us not what we thought we wanted, but exactly what we needed. The modest puffer sleeves and the fact that they were yellow are always a plus. YES PLEASE. Simplistic with a little pop. Gathering just around the bust was her ever-so-fitting black velvet Safiyaa gown. Her presence on the carpet made everyone feel that the Queen was in town! For accessories, she added a shining Daniel Williams diamond necklace and a Fernando Jorge ring. This finished her look perfectly and the needs of the people were indeed met.

Through the fashion choices and hard work these black celebrities simply left their mark on the red carpet. Each individual showcased a unique style that blended innovation with a timeless charm. From Fantasia's homage to "The Color Purple" to Janelle James's transformative touch on the Monsori collection, Trevor Noah's consistent polished looks, Lenny Kravitz's daring fashion statements, and Sheryl Lee Ralph's regal presence, this year's Golden Globe attendees truly exemplified the artistry and creativity that define the intersection of fashion and entertainment. As the curtain falls on this year’s season, the fashion legacy created by these legendary individuals continues to resonate, inspiring and leaving an indelible mark on the world of style.

In a world where fashion can often feel predictable and repetitive, Momm & Popp is a breath of fresh air, offering a unique and captivating perspective that blends generations and styles in a mesmerizing dance of creativity. The dynamic mother-daughter duo, Dorlethia (Momm) and Sami (Popp) have gracefully emerged as trendsetters, crafting their path through the fashion landscape.

The genesis of Momm & Popp was nothing short of unexpected and exciting. As the world battled with the pandemic, this mom-and-daughter fashion duo found themselves crafting a new brand from the comfort of their own homes. With time on their side and a fierce desire to explore uncharted territories, they decided to take a leap of faith into the world of fashion. The stars seemed to align, and they had nothing to lose, but everything to gain.

At the core of Momm & Popp's fashion philosophy is a deep-seated belief in the power of creativity. They are on a mission to encourage people to see fashion as a canvas for self-expression. Their mantra is simple: you don't need to drain your bank account to look and feel like a million bucks. It's about honoring timeless styles while forging your unique narrative. True style, they insist, isn't about blindly following trends but about embracing what truly resonates with you.

What sets Momm & Popp apart is their ability to bridge the generational gap with their fashion content. Despite the differences in their styles, Michelle and Sarah have an uncanny knack for harmonizing their choices. Their fashion is a fusion of age-appropriate elegance with a generous helping of personality. Michelle exudes dolled-up, girly charm and has a soft spot for heels, while Sarah's style is a blend of laid-back and tomboy, with a sprinkle of girlishness for good measure.

The journey of Momm & Popp has been peppered with defining moments. Walking the runway together at D.C. Fashion Week was an exhilarating experience, fulfilling a shared aspiration that has solidified their presence in the fashion world. People of all ages have recognized their unique sense of style, seeking their expertise for special events and occasions.

What resonates most with their audience is the effortless fusion of casual wear with upscale accessories. Momm & Popp's budget-friendly suggestions for elevating staple pieces are pure magic. They consistently push the boundaries of their content, and each day, they are determined to outdo their previous looks, setting new benchmarks in the ever-evolving world of fashion.

Momm & Popp aren't just fashion influencers; they are game-changers. What sets them apart is their dual-generational perspective. Their collaborations reflect their vision, such as the partnership with YITTY, Lizzo's brand, which emphasizes size inclusivity and self-confidence. This alignment with their values allows them to showcase their personal style while inspiring the fashion journey of their audience.

The future for Momm & Popp is as bright as a runway floodlit for a fashion show. They envision launching their own clothing line, an exciting step that will bring their unique style to an even broader audience. With bated breath, we eagerly anticipate seeing you all at Momm & Popp 2024 next year, where fashion and creativity collide in a symphony of style!

The Yusufs, Nasteha, and Nuni originally hail from Somalia, but their family's escape from the civil war led them to spend their early years in a Kenyan refugee camp. This challenging start in life created a determination and resilience within them. Today, they've transformed their passion for fashion into a safe space for like-minded women, celebrating their diverse backgrounds and shared aspirations.

Sonnique Saturday

By: Sharmaine Johnson

Rocking designer dupes has set TikTok abuzz, fueled by the surge in influencer reviews. This sizzling trend has ignited a fashion-forward debate: Is it a clever shortcut to style, or a resounding fashion No-No? Amidst this discourse, enters Sonique Saturday, a trailblazer pushing boundaries with her luxurious handbag collection. Have you spotted Saturday House? The brand brought to life the iconic You Fake Like This Birkin bag, that has graced the arms of Tabitha Brown, Yung Miami, Niecy Nash, Amber Rose, and Christina Milian.

Meet the CEO of Saturday House, Sonique Saturday. Picture a broke college student with a passion for luxury fashion who is unwilling to wait for a corporate job to flaunt luxury items. Instead of waiting to be able to afford the luxury items she desired, she carved a new affordable path instead. Her handbag line mirrors the aesthetics of fashion labels, making quality and style attainable without breaking the bank. Say what you want about designer dupes Saturday House is giving quality. Enter Saturday House, a striking reimagination of luxury possession and the American dream. "We’re fed the 'American Dream' from birth– so seeking something adjacent to it felt familiar" Sonique candidly shared with 247 LC.

Of course, where brilliance sparks, challenges follow. Saturday House's iconic dupe designs have placed Sonique into a whirlwind of obstacles that most entrepreneurs couldn’t even dream of. Imagine receiving legal threats from fashion titans and rejection by tech giants like Google and Facebook for projecting a 'powerful image'. But in the face of adversity, Sonnique's fire only burned brighter.

I suddenly realized I needed lawyers! Throughout the process, I aimed to uphold the values of originality and creativity while respecting the established legal boundaries within the fashion industry.
— Sonique Saturday

Sonique prepares her ‘Yep It’s Vegan’ bag for a brand photoshoot.

Interestingly enough, Sonique didn't intend to birth a business at first. Initially, she just wanted a bag that echoed her style, designer dupe or not! Years of flaunting her custom designs unveiled a startling revelation: the world desired what she created. Staying true to herself birthed a unique black-owned luxury brand. Every Saturday House piece is a masterpiece, hand-painted and custom-crafted, a rarity in the handbag world. And those quotes? They're conversation starters, guaranteed to seize attention.

I envisioned creating a piece that women could build their entire look around. I aimed to create conversation starters, something that made people stop and pay attention.
— Sonique Saturday

Guess what? That's precisely what these bags do. So, when your eyes lock onto a bag proclaiming You Fake Like This Chanel, Just Don’t Touch My Hair, or I Don’t Cook, recognize it's from Saturday House – the audacious black-owned luxury handbag brand that shattered every fashion boundary in its path.

After four long years, Beautycon made its way back to LA last weekend with partners Walmart and Shea Moisture. On September 16th and 17th, your favorite influencers and women who love all things beauty hit the floors of The Reef bright and early at 10 a.m. Content creators, models, makeup artists, and artists of all levels from all over the world came to connect and share their knowledge. Now, if you plan to be in attendance next year, be prepared for the lines inside and outside to be extensive. This two-day beauty extravaganza had a mainstage lineup that commanded every beauty babe’s attention.

Day one went live with sounds by DJ Legatron Prime, hosted by Emira D’spain. A warm welcome was given by Caroline Wange and Sophia Davis to all the beauties who waited for this moment over the past four years. The first workshop called Creators Lane took a dive deep into growing a brand as an influencer or content creator in the beauty space. It gave the girls all the tea they needed to go from guest to panelist next year. The afternoon got spicy during Shop Live presented by Walmart where they presented the best of the best beauty products from AF94, The Lip Bar, and Blk Opl. As the afternoon came to a close Marsai Martin shared her best beauty lessons while spilling tea on her journey and her latest new ventures with Mari by Marsai and Rhea Raj shut down the stage with a stellar performance!

Day two popped off with sounds from DJ Antiqigadee with host Nyma Tang. Showing love to all of the beautiful mothers in the house the Embracing Beauty After Motherhood panel with Ami Desai and Lora Arellano shed light on how to balance beauty and motherhood. For the girls building their beauty empires, the Building A Beauty Brand workshop with the owners of Black Opal helped attendees learn about their unique journey and what has played a key role in the brand's growth. Saucy Santana came through for the Beauty Interrupted: Self-Expression & Disrupting The Status Quo segment where the topic of conversation was letting your personal aesthetic shine through. During the Passion To Profit panel singer and beauty mogul Kelly Rolland shared her personal story and BIA hit the stage to close out the event.

With engaging stage presence from nail techs, insight into the most unconventional beauty, and hair texture on the runway, every type of person was represented at this event. At the expo, area attendees snagged free samples and full-sized goodies from some of the most popular beauty vendors like Palmers, Camille Rose, EOS, As I Am, and many more!

The VIP perks did not disappoint with wine, tacos, ceviche, and snacks, especially the famous Biscoff cookies that no one can deny. There were also exclusive VIP goodies in the exclusive lounge areas and skip-the-line privileges which we all love.

Just when you thought it was over, each day you left with connections, products, and gems that you’ll cherish forever. Between fun and beauty, you can never pick just one. So, hopefully, we will see you all next year for Beautycon 2024.

Black was the color of the afternoon and bold pieces ignited the space alongside some bold personalities. As we know it, black people are always the highlight of the show. This event was no different. Let’s get into some of the flyest looks of the afternoon.

Coco and Breezy (@cocoandbreezy) did not disappoint with their crop and mini skirt moment. What do the girls say, “skirts should be the size of a belt. Life short. Take risks.” We should give a round of applause for the layers and accessories!

Keeping the fun going, blazers don’t have to be so professional after all. All of the girlies were dressed in their oversized blazers and name-brand sunnies. One thing you can count on during a brunch is that sunglasses are a must.  And not just to block the precious sun we love that in LA, but to give that aesthetic touch that our outfits so desperately need.

Also, sports socks with loafers are not a crime! Remember to make fashion fun and unique to you, and set a trend.

To end the event, the Patron El Alto definitely did its job. Everyone was on the dance floor showing their moves to the wobble! It was nice to celebrate blackness and witness the style in a space that we very much created.
